Rika didn’t let go until we were about to enter the classroom.

It was still nice when we were walking to school. There were students from other grades. Even people from other classes. When it came to the route to the classroom, the chances of encountering classmates increased dramatically.

Was it a sign of Rika’s desire to show off? I can only assume so. Rika would do it.

It’s not about spreading rumors. I was embarrassed by the way she was showing off.

“I’ll see you later !”

When I let go of her hand, it was relatively easy.

I left with a feeling of trepidation. Needless to say, entering the classroom was somewhat awkward.

It seemed that I arrived too late, and more than half of the students had already arrived. I guess it was because I was walking slowly and deliberately.

[Heh, Nagai kun. Aren’t you lovey-dovey?] [You seem to be having a good time.] [It’s like a peak at the time of life.]

The first to speak to me was a trio of girls. They were the so-called [gyaru] type, the type of girls I don’t really get along with nowadays.

They were smiling, but none of them seemed to be happy. They would not talk to me unless they were in a group of three.

I know. This trio is Kisaki’s cronies.

“Oh, no, thank you very much.”

“Saki, she hasn’t been coming to school. Do you know what that means?”

She whispered. I could sense her strong will not to let anyone around her hear it. I kept a straight face.

“Who knows.”

“It’s not worth it if only you are happy and only Saki is unhappy. I want to talk to you after school.”

After she said that, her smile turned radiant. It’s a very flip side of the coin.

As I watched her leave, a boy from my class came up to me.

“What a disaster. It’s about Kisaki, isn’t it?”

It was Nanase who approached me.

Ever since I started dating Kisaki, I haven’t had much interaction with her. I don’t have many friends, but Nanase is one of my very few friends. I guess it is worth mentioning that she is very popular with the boys because of her cheerful attitude.

“You see right through me.”

“I knew at first glance that they were Kisaki’s cronies. But how can they continue to be associated with Kisaki?”

“Has she been exposed for the abomination that she is?”

“There’s no need to ask, right? Bad reputation spreads quickly. In the past few days, Kisaki’s reputation has fallen to the ground. Masatoshi, you had a relationship with her, right?”

I didn’t go so far as to say that’s why we had recently broken up. Since Kisaki’s allies are in the same classroom, it’s no good to make clumsy mistakes. They were even more desperate than usual.

“I’m glad you found a new partner.”

“Well, it’s not new, but she’s a good partner.”

“Love her as much as you can. I envy you, you normie.”

I got a light pat on the back.

“Ouuch”

“That’s the jealousy punch.”

“That doesn’t make me happy.”

“It makes me feel better.”

“It’s just a little bit of anger, that’s all.”

That’s what my conversation with Nanase was about.

The other boys also showed their reactions to me.

I was successfully receiving glaring hostile (?) looks from some of them. I began to receive Half of them looking at me warmly, though.

But it wasn’t all about the days of my youth. The day after tomorrow was a school trip, and the cronies were not satisfied unless they could get rid of their anger.

I did not expect to be summoned to the rooftop. In this day and age, it is a difficult place to enter without being seen by the teachers.

The designated time was right after school. There was no reason to stand them up. I had to settle the matter here and put an end to a problem that was already over in my mind.

“You’re here, aren’t you?”

The three of them were standing proudly, with a slight breeze blowing in the air. I wondered if it was a good idea to be in that position while wearing a skirt that was too short.

“I’ll come when I’m called. That’s all.”

[As Saki told me, you’re a cocky little bastard]  [And you show no remorse !]

I couldn’t help but laugh at the words [no remorse].

“Why are you laughing?”

“Because it’s ridiculous. Kisaki and I have already discussed this. Kisaki is to blame for this. I don’t care if she doesn’t come to school or not. It’s all her choice. It’s her fault that she made a series of choices that ended up like this.”

I was being very argumentative myself. I could have been an adult and talked it out peacefully.

The reason I dared not to do so was because I was still angry at Kisaki’s cronies for trying to hunt me down just because they were her friends and not understanding Kisaki’s sin.

I am not a saint. Those who poke at issues that can’t be helped even if they are dug up now are no better than mosquitoes that disturb people’s sleep.

“This……guy.”

The fist of the leader of the group is clenched. Judging by the tanned skin, I wonder if she is from an athletic club.

“You’re going to get away with violence?”

“You have to fix your mouth. Saki’s heart was hurt. Nagai, I have to make you understand with my fist !”

She spouts outrageous logic.

The three of them started their preparation at the same time.

“It’s not fair.”

“I don’t want to be told by you, you insidious little bitch !”

I don’t want to hit a girl, especially if she’s a friend of Kisaki’s. Hitting or resisting someone won’t make you feel better.

I just have to dodge. It was all I could do to deflect attacks from three different directions. Even though there was a gender advantage.

The leader’s incessant attacks were a nuisance. The other two were not so bad.

I was shaken to my core that there was no way out of this situation and that I had no choice but to make a move.

With a thud, a girl kicked the door. It was not Kisaki’s trio of cronies.

“What are you doing to my Masa kun?”

Her body was slumped and weak, and she had a cool look in her eyes.

It was Rika, no doubt.

The attack stops. Their eyes turn to Rika. A moment later, the leader’s cheeks began to quiver.

“Are you Rika? The second force that destroyed Saki. Just in time. I’m going to destroy this guy together with Nagai.”

“I don’t care. Tell me why you’re messing with Masa kun.”

[Because he hurt Saki.] [That’s right] [What’s wrong with us !?]

Rika scoffed upon hearing this.

“—I can’t save you either. It’s fine to feel sorry for Saki Kisaki. It is also understandable to think about retaliation. But that doesn’t mean you can touch Masa kun.”

“You put your boyfriend first, you son of a bitch!!”

The target changes to Rika.

“Three at the same time? You’re the ones who are at a disadvantage.”

“Don’t look so tough !”

“The fact is, it takes less than ten seconds to take you down.”

With blinding speed, she slammed her fists into all three of them.

All I could see was the trio falling at the same time. A heavy thud was heard.

“V-violence……

“Yes, that may be true. But this is self-defense.”

There was no reply. They seemed to have already passed out.

“Are you okay? Masa kun?”

“No problem. I was probably too arrogant to think that the case was over.”

“You’re not. In any case, the three of them looked hurt. There’s no need to worry anymore. We can go on the school trip without any worries, right?”

“Yeah.”

I guess I could say that all my worries were gone.

The school trip was the day after tomorrow.
