A week after the first script meeting, a second meeting was being held.

However, only four people were present.

Oshiro, Nasu, and the others who had promised to write the plot properly next time had left because they had club activities or were busy with part-time jobs.

Usami looked a little disappointed, but in the end the four of us decided to proceed with the script meeting.

Then, in July, the third script meeting will be held.

Three people attended.

One of the participants who participated last time left saying that he had to prepare for the regular examination.

Usami, as expected, could not force him to stay when she was told that he had to study for the test.

As for the others, I don’t need to tell you.

They probably didn’t even know that the script meeting was today.

And so, after the regular examinations were over, it came down to the last script meeting before the summer break.

At last, there were only two attendees, me and Usami.

The two who had been attending the meeting earnestly had something to do today, and they couldn’t make it.

I would have liked to reschedule the meeting for another day, but since we had to present the plot to the class and decide which script to adopt during tomorrow’s long homeroom, I couldn’t postpone it.

We had no choice but to proceed with the script meeting between the two of us.

Suddenly, Usami’s head was on the other side of the two desks.

“Hmm, it hurts my heart because everyone worked so hard, but there’s only one script that will be chosen…….”

“Well, as expected, we won’t be able to do all of them.”

It has been about a month since the first script meeting.

Of all the plots the four of us have come up with so far, only one will be chosen for the screenplay.

Of course, each of the four of us had our own ideas, so there was no doubt that each of our scripts was the product of the four of us, but I still feel attached to the ideas that I came up with on my own.

In my case, in particular, I was helped by my seniors, so I was much more attached to the idea than I would have been if I had come up with it myself.

For the sake of my seniors, I would like to have my idea adopted for the screenplay if at all possible.

For that reason, I wanted to make the final exchange of ideas meaningful.

The script meeting between the two of us proceeded smoothly, and we got to talking about Usami’s plot.

“I think this novel [aliens conquer the earth with rabbits]is an interesting idea…..but I think the casting will inevitably be biased toward girls.”

“Really? I think it would be totally fine if boys played the rabbit aliens.”

“Do guys wear bunny ears…..?”

“Yeah, Sagami kun would look good in them, right?”

“No, it’s gross indeed…….”

The meeting proceeded in this way, with both sides giving impassioned speeches, and before we knew it, it was almost time to leave for school.

The exchange of opinions on the plot has settled down, and as chit-chat is now being exchanged here and there, Usami suddenly lets out a sigh, which is unusual for her.

“I’m sorry, Sagami kun……”

I knew immediately what she meant.

The two of us were the only ones at the script meeting.

Usami, who has a strong sense of responsibility, probably cares about that.

“Why are you apologizing, Usami? You’ve done your best.”

“I haven’t. It’s probably because I’m half-hearted……”

“Half-hearted?”

“You see, I’ve been working on other duties, so I haven’t been able to talk to everyone…….”

“Isn’t it because there aren’t enough people in other places? Usami was busy with other things and studying for exams, but you wrote the plot properly.”

And yet, you shouldn’t say things like that to deny your own hard work.

“Usami is doing more than enough. You should be more proud of yourself.”

“Sagami kun…..”

Usami slapped her cheeks and looked up as if to re-energize her spirit.

“Thank you. I’ll work harder! “

Usami clenches her fist in front of her chest while saying so.

I think that’s what’s so good about her, that she’s so positive and energetic.

However, I can’t help but think it’s unreasonable.

After all, it is the irresponsible people who do not participate in the festival who enjoy it the most.

They don’t know about the efforts of those who have worked hard, and they take their tops off as if it were a matter of course.

And they act as if they are the stars of the festival.

Frankly, I didn’t care about those people, but I couldn’t forgive that Usami, who worked so hard, didn’t get rewarded.

So I decided to do whatever I could to help.

That’s how I made up my mind.

◆ ◆ ◆

The next day, in the long homeroom, I presented my plot in front of everyone, and the plot that received the most votes was the one I had written.

And I was chosen to write the script for an original play to be performed at the festival.

To be honest, it’s a lot of responsibility, but now that I’ve been chosen, I’m going to do my best.

Besides, I was glad that the seniors had worked with me to come up with the idea so that it wouldn’t be a waste of time.

As I was petting my chest in relief, Usami called out to me.

“Sagami kun, congratulations !”

“Thank you, I’ll do my best now that I’ve been selected.”

“Yeah, I’m rooting for you. Oh, and this is your first draft, can you get it done after the summer break? Considering the casting, rehearsals, etc., I’d like it to be ready by that time.”

“O-okay. I don’t know how long it will take me to write it since it’s my first time, but I’ll do my best anyway.”

“Yeah, I’ll leave it to you. If you have any problems, you can always ask me for help.”

The deadline is after the summer break……

I honestly don’t know what will happen, but I guess I’ll just have to do my best.

A few days later, the results of the regular examinations were returned and all the subjects of the first semester were completed.

And finally, the long-awaited summer vacation has arrived—.

I don’t really understand what the point of those script meetings was supposed to be. I mean, writing a script isn’t really something suitable to do as a group. It makes much more sense to have one person write a draft and then have a couple of other people review and edit it iteratively. Having NINE people meet up over the course of like 4 sessions seems pointless. You don’t really need to have meetings in the first place, you could just send drafts, review and edit asynchronously and continuously until you reach the deadline, then present and vote.
