“X=13.”
Tsukishima answered.
Tsukishima was an honor student with the second highest grade after me, and both the teacher and the students thought that she would naturally answer correctly.
“Um, that’s incorrect. You made a substitution mistake.”
Tsukishima’s face turned red and she looked back at the text. However, she only flipped through the pages impatiently. By the way, this is a review for middle school, so it’s not in the textbook.
“If you don’t understand, just guess next time.”
While Tsukishima was puzzled, the teacher clicked the chalk and looked for a student who would answer quickly.
Of course, it was me whose eyes were on him.
“Endo, do you understand?”
(I knew it was me.)
“Ah, X = 7.”
“Correct, then〜”
The math teacher began to explain lazily. It was unusual for Tsukishima to make such a mistake. I knew she had been acting strange since this morning, maybe she is not feeling well.
“Thanks, Enpitsu.”
“Okay, but are you alright?”
“Y-yeah……maybe.”
I sneak a peek at her notebook, but it was blank. Usually, it’s so beautifully put together that I’d be surprised.
Even though she got the wrong answer when the teacher pointed it out, she was somewhere up in the air staring blankly at the blackboard.
Her cheeks are also a little red…maybe she has a fever.
“Why don’t you go to the infirmary after class?”
I whispered while watching the math teacher so as not to catch his attention.
“It’s okay……I’m fine.”
While saying that, Tsukishima glanced at me and blinked embarrassedly.
“Well, if that’s the case, I won’t force you.”
When Tsukishima looked at me, she glanced at me with blushing cheeks. What’s with her since this morning…no way, are you catching the flu?!
“It’s because of you, Enpitsu……”
She looks miffed for a moment.
“Eh?”
Did I do something to make you angry……?
Maybe you were uncomfortable with the way Myoudou san’s chest was hitting me this morning……?
That’s right, did my nose grow long? If so, it’s no wonder people hate me……I’m totally a bad guy.
No, no, if that’s the case, why does Tsukishima have a loss of concentration? I mean, if she didn’t like me, she wouldn’t talk to me or be shy…….
–I really don’t get it.
Tsukishima turned her head and started taking notes, ignoring my question.
–It’s my fault……?
I don’t know what in the world is my fault. I knew I should take Tsukishima to the infirmary after math class. It’s before the midterms and……if she’s aiming for the special class, she definitely doesn’t want to fail.
When I looked at her from the side, I noticed that even though she was taking notes, she still had a strange expression on her face. She looks panicked, angry, or how to say…embarrassed?
Is she embarrassed because of me?
Why?
***
The chime rang and the math teacher left the classroom, and I gathered my courage and turned toward Tsukishima.
“Hey, Tsukishima.”
She usually responds to me with a cool expression on her face, but today she was acting strange.
“W-what is it?”
“If you don’t feel well, why don’t you go to the infirmary?”
“You mean you don’t want me next to you…..?”
“Eh? It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just that…..Tsukishima doesn’t seem to be feeling well.”
Tsukishima let out a slightly surprised “Ah” and her eyes widened. Before long, it turns red like a tomato.
“Why……”
“You’re burning up all the time, you might have a fever or something. And it’s not like Tsukishima to get a problem wrong like that…….”
Tsukishima fidgeted and stared at me.
“If Enpitsu will take me….I’ll go.”
I knew it must have been tough for her.
“Okay, I’ll take you.”
