Episode 56  – reunion

Suddenly the chime rang and the door was opened with a clang.

Entering the door was Arisa’s best friend and my best friend’s lover.

“I just came to check on you, just in case,”

At that moment, Arisa and I were on either side of the sofa.

“What’s going on? Or are you done? Or am I rather interrupting?”

I stood up and picked up my school bag.

“O-Otsuki-san is back now, so I’m going home. See you both tomorrow.”

I walked past Otsuki-san and out of the house.

I run as fast as I can toward home, not even looking at the bus stop.

I was running as fast as I could, my lungs almost dying as I repeatedly slapped my cheeks with both hands.

As it turned out, I couldn’t kiss her.

I had to stop. If I had not stopped, I would have probably kissed Arisa.

Otsuki san’s visit had no effect on me.

I can’t believe I almost kissed her because I was carried away by the atmosphere. ……

I haven’t shaken off my past love yet.

I’d forgotten about that and wanted to hold Arisa in my arms.

“I’m such an asshole,”

But she was cute. She was too cute. I wonder what would have happened if I had just swept over and kissed her like that.

Even Arisa was ……. Aaah, I don’t know what’s going on anymore!

“Oh well. Let’s just love Hiyori and get rid of this depression.”

While I was thinking about all this, I arrived home.

I wiped off my sweat, caught my breath, and opened the door to my house, pretending that nothing had happened.

As I opened the door, I heard happy voices coming from the living room.

Shoes at the front door. Mom, Dad, Hiyori. They were home early today.

And there was an additional pair of unfamiliar women’s shoes on the floor.

These are not Reo’s shoes, and I wonder who isit. Was it a customer?

I put my school bag on the floor and opened the living room door.

There was my father, mother, Hiyori ……, and a girl about my age.

“Welcome back.”

“Ni Ni, welcome home.”

“Ah, I’m home. Um, …… that person.”

Noticing my presence, the girl gets up from her chair and comes over to my side.

She was a girl with impressive long black hair and an incredibly cute face.

I was a little flustered by her beauty, which was comparable to Arisa’s. But her eyes were so soft and rounded as she looked at me.

“It’s been a while, …… Ryoma.”

“E-Eh? W-Who are you?”

“Mouu, Even when I recognized Ryoma at first glance,……. But you’ve grown taller and better looking and you look different.”

“Eh”

For some reason, I remember that tone of voice.

I’ve met this girl before.

It was a long time ago. If I’m not mistaken, it was almost 10 years ago.

“My hair has grown long ……I don’t think you would recognize me after all. We used to play together in the past. Ryoma and …… Reo and…”

“…… Ah!”

That’s when I finally remembered.

Yes, until I was 5 years old, I had one other childhood friend besides Reo.　

Reo, who was full of energy at his own pace, and the girl, who loved to move her body and was always coming up with fun games.

The three of us used to play together. The girl’s name was.

“…… Tsumugi.”

“Yes, you remember me. Yes, Tsumugi!”

Her name is Hiiragi Tsumugi. 

She is my childhood friend who used to live across the street from me.

I used to spend all my time with Tsumugi and Reo.

But Tsumugi moved away for family reasons, and we never saw each other again.

“W-Why are you here?”

“Hiiragi-san’s family is leaving Japan for a while on an overseas business trip.”

Mom said as if to add something.

“We talked about what to do with Tsumugi-chan, and we decided to take care of her at our house, where we had a good relationship with her.”

“Eh! I didn’t hear anything about it.”

“She said she was going to surprise you.”

Dad said without a trace of regret.

“So she’s going to live here, then?”

“Yes. But I’m surprised. I thought it was only aunt and uncle, but now even Hiyori chan, who is so cute, is here. Things change after ten years, don’t they?”

“I want to play with Tsumugi-onee-san!”

Hiyori is only 5 years old, so of course Tsumugi would never know about it.

I mean, living together under one roof with a girl of the same age, even though we are childhood friends?

“I have a lot to talk to Ryouma about!　About the past 10 years,……, a lot!”

When Tsumugi came to me, I was a little flustered.

I never thought my childhood friend could be this cute.

As expected, I’m embarrassed.

“W-Wait a minute, please calm down.

I’m still a bit confused. Hiiragi-san, I think we can talk later!”

“Ryoma, why such a strange tone? You used to be normal. Call me Tsumugi.”

“Well, …… I use that tone with girls.”

“What girls? I’m a childhood friend, so you don’t have to use that tone of voice. You can call me Tsumugi like you used to. I don’t want to be a stranger.”

Tsumugi is right.

I think it’s wrong to keep a distance from Tsumugi since we live under the same roof.

I think it’s good that we are close to each other considering that we are childhood friends. ……

“I get it. It has been a really long time since I’ve seen you.”

“Yeah! That’s…Ryouma”

I’m really glad that her smile hasn’t changed from the old Tsumugi.

“That’s it. Let’s meet Reo too. It’s been a while since the three of us.”

I was about to call Reo to the house next door,

But I was stopped by a tug on my hand.

The one who stopped me was Tsumugi.

“I don’t need Reo. We disband up after the quarrel, and there’s no need to talk about it now.”

“Eh”

“I only want to talk to you about Ryoma. For ten years I’ve only thought about Ryoma, and I’ve never forgotten the feeling I had when I was five years old.”

“Huh?”

“But we can certainly talk about it later. We’ll talk about it when we’re settled since we’re going to live together. Then, Hiyori-chan. Let’s take a bath with onee-chan!”

“I’m going in!”

Hiyori and Tsumugi went to the bathtub.

“Ryoma, tomorrow you will take care of Tsumugi-chan at school too.”

My mom told me that and I have a bad feeling about it.

“Take care of Tsumugi at school too. …… No way!”

“My name is Hiiragi Tsumugi, and I have transferred to this school starting today. Please take care of me.”

“Ooooooh!”

Naturally, the boys were excited by Tsumugi’s cuteness.

I never thought we would be attending the same school ……. And I had no idea we were in the same class.

“Pokan.”

Reo looked at Tsumugi and made a face just like the words.

Maybe I should have told him beforehand.

Well, even though we are childhood friends, I am a guy and Tsumugi is a girl.

I’m not going to get involved in anything major from now on.

“Where do you live, Hiiragi-san?!”

At the sound of her classmate’s voice, Tsumugi clasped her hands together and smiled.

“Well, I’m staying at Ryoma’s house right now.”

“Ughgh!”

I was blown away by that honesty.

It caught the attention of my classmates.

“Eh, what kind of relationship do you have with Kogure and Hiiragi-san?”

To such a question, Tsumugi puts her hands on her cheeks and answers shyly.

“Me and Ryoma were childhood friends, we were together all the way back to when we were five years old. We used to bathe together.”

“Wait wait Tsumugi, What are you talking about?!?”

“We are such good friends that we promised to get married when we grow up.”

“Kyaaaaaaaaaah!”

“Hyuuuuuuh!”

Various voices from boys and girls rose up at the outrageous words.

Tsumugi…… threw in an outrageous bomb as soon as she transferred to the new school.

Bekinn!

I hear the sound of something breaking behind me.

I had a very bad feeling about what was going on and couldn’t look back.

It’s strange because the only person sitting behind me is Arisa.

Then I get a message on my phone.

I glance at it.

“W E – N E E D – T O – T A L K”

It was the first time I felt such a violent atmosphere from the words.

The story of the three of us, including me, Arisa……, and my childhood friend Tsumugi, begins.

There is nothing really written beyond this, so this concludes the extended chapter.

By the way, the new character Tsumugi is a very nice girl and will become an important same-gender friend for Arisa, so I don’t think it will be in the form of antagonism. It will be a love triangle, though.
