(TL/N : A story from before they are married)

“Hey, Nagi! Give me that!”
“Eh?”

When I looked up at the voice, I saw one bright red strawberry left in front of me disappear.
I looked to the side in surprise and saw that it had been sucked into the mouth of my childhood friend next to me.

“Hey, Reona,. That’s mine.”
“Hm? I thought Nagi might not like strawberries since Reona eats her favorite first.”

When I saw Reona smiling at me, I felt my eyes blur a little bit.

(……… strawberries, I like them so I saved the best for last.)

But still, there is nothing I can do about what’s gone.
I was staring at the empty plate, feeling a little down, when I heard Reona say, “I don’t like sponge cake,” with a pout.
I thought for a moment, then reached for the plate next to it.

“Reona. I like sponge cake so i want to eat it.”
“Really?!”

“Then, will you eat it?” I nodded at her and grabbed the fork I had just put down once more.
The moment I put it in my mouth with the whipped cream on it, Reona made a strange noise.

“Huh? But Nagi, didn’t you hate sponge cake as much as Reona does?”

I gasp a little at her words and smile after swallowing the cake that almost clogged my mouth.

“No. I like sponge cake.”

“Is that so,” she said, twisting her head as if she still wasn’t convinced.
Pretending not to know this, I finish eating the whole thing and then get a tug on my hem.

When I turned my head to look at Reona again, she smiled at me with a full-blown smile.

“Thanks, Nagi!

Oh, I knew I—–

◇◇◇◇◇

“——- Reona. You leaving the sponge cake again?”

I look at Reona staring at the cake in front of her, and I hear a small groan.

“Because no matter how many years go by, I can’t do what I can’t ……….”
“……….. Haa.”

I let out a small sigh, and then I finish off the sponge cake on the plate next to me.
As usual, a little bit of whipped cream on it sucks up all the moisture in my mouth.

While I was rehydrating after finishing, I saw my childhood friend with an impressed look on her face from next to me.

“Nagi really likes sponge cake, doesn’t he?”
“………. well.”

After a short pause, I nodded and put down the fork with my mouth on it.
When I was drinking the coffee that was placed beside me, my childhood friend’s face came close to me in a close-up.

“By the way, Nagi.”
“Hmm?”

Pretending to be calm, I move away from the too-close distance and look back at Reona, whose mouth is slackening.
“Can I eat this?” She pointed to a strawberry, the only one left on my plate.

“I don’t mind. I don’t really like ……… strawberries.”
“Then can I have it?!”
“Yeah.”

I put away the plate with Reona’s cake on it that she had just eaten and stared at her as she happily ate the strawberries.
Then I wondered if I had been staring at her for too long, and her eyes snapped like that, and I reflexively thought it was bad.

“Thanks, Nagi!”

But then I saw Reona’s face smiling in front of me, and it reminded me of her old smile.

(…………Ah, I knew it…)

I look at the smile of my childhood friend who smiles sweetly and happily as if she were a cake.

—–I love the smile of my childhood friend who smiles in front of me more than anything else, more than strawberries
