Popular among young people, TikTok shows viewer icons in the top right during live streams, and the comment section displays messages like

making it easy to see who’s watching.
That’s why this comment is so unsettling.
Well, knowing Yozuki Mei-chan, she’s probably just joking around.

Speaking of weird, there’s the relationship between me and Yozuki Mei.
This kind of interaction favoring one viewer—from an outsider’s perspective, or rather within the VTuber industry—if it involves a man, it’s practically guaranteed to cause a scandal.
I don’t want to dig into it because it gets meta, but the VTuber scene has plenty of scandals.
For example, clips or statements get spread around.
“Hey, did you see ○○-chan collaborating with a guy and saying ‘I might like him’?”
“○○’s secret account is dropping hints.”
And so on.
For example, summary sites or exposure accounts get turned into articles.

When articles like this appear, it instantly ignites a firestorm.
“She was doing serious romance marketing, yet secretly collaborating with a guy?”
“I feel betrayed.”
“I’m quitting as a fan.”
“Oshi characters like that really do have a hidden side.”
And so on. Since VTubers have established personas for each character, they effectively can’t act in ways that deviate from that image.
That’s why things blow up.
Normally, if I were to get upset over favoring one viewer of the opposite sex, it wouldn’t be strange—especially if she got upset.
