“Director Narusawa, I’ve brought Yamamoto Keigo and Shiraishi Kotone with me.”

“I see. Good work.”

The director’s office, towering over the 25th floor, was too simple for the director’s office of a major company. A secretary’s desk was next to the director’s desk. The all-glass window provided a panoramic view of Kobe. For Keigo, however, the view was more frightening than beautiful.

“Keigo, you know why I called you here, don’t you?”

“It’s about me and Shiraishi san, isn’t it?”

Keigo turned his attention to Kotone. The two hands tied tightly together, both lips, slightly raised eyebrows. I could feel the color of determination in her well-groomed faces.

“That’s right.”

“Yumi told me you two were having an affair.”

“Of course, love is a personal choice. But you and Yumi are almost like a married couple.”

“If you are having an affair, you must change your mind.”

There is no doubt that Yumi has been crying to him. Cheating is a decision, I suppose. However, as long as he is the president of a large company, he cannot be fired for arbitrary reasons. He should be given a chance to talk.

“May I speak?”

Kotone looked at me and smiled. Instead of the tearful Kotone, I felt a strong core of strength now.

“Is it Shiraishi san? Please.”

The director looked surprised. I could see the suspicion in his eyes toward Kotone. The report from Yumi didn’t give him a good impression of her. It was as if he was looking at a woman who was playing with a man.

“I was in the same circle as Yamamoto san until my third year of college.”

“Yamamoto san was a dependable and kind man. And I would occasionally ask him for advice out of the kindness of his heart.”

Kotone spoke slowly, clearly and plainly from the past encounters to the present. Of course, she didn’t say anything that would be a disadvantage. Her words were true, without falsehoods.

“Today, when I was talking to him about my breakup, Yamamoto kun happened to be sleeping nearby.”

“When I couldn’t take it anymore and broke down in tears, Yamamoto kun called out to me.”

“When I heard Yamamoto kun’s gentle voice, I couldn’t help but hug him.”

“And Yumi san witnessed the scene.”

It was a Kotone-like confession, with no lies at all. The director’s confusion spread as he wondered if this was not what Yumi had told him.

“Is that true? If so, I don’t think it would be considered as cheating.”

Keigo looked at Kotone’s expression. He made eye contact with her as she smiled bashfully. He seemed to be saying ‘it’s okay, I’ll protect you’. Keigo feels that it’s not a good idea to fight with the director now.

“Yumi, what’s your opinion?”

The director turned to Yumi, who’s standing in front of him. She stared at Keigo with a stern expression on her face.

“The two of them called each other by their first names.”

This report was predictable. It is unlikely that a man and a woman, who are at least classmates, would call each other by their first names. However, that’s not necessarily true .

“I do believe that people do call each other by name, even if they aren’t close.”

There is also an ambiguity when it comes to how men and women call each other. Indeed, the director seemed to agree. However, the story that came out of this was troublesome.

“That’s not all. They were hugging each other from behind.”

“And they both said they liked each other.”

I knew this topic would come out. As for Kotone’s monologue, she was simply trying to protect me. I guess it was me who went too far.

I was too much in love with Kotone. Kotone was also dejected when she heard this. Lying is impossible for the honest Kotone. Kotone was clearly upset. She seemed to have understood the meaning of my earlier words many times and was trying to make excuses.

“Keigo ku, no, Yamamoto san likes Yumi san.”

“No, if that’s true, it doesn’t add up with what I just said.”

Oh, I see. For Kotone, who’s right beside me, she doesn’t understand the situation I’m in right now. The only thing she said was that she didn’t want to ruin my relationship with Yumi.

I can’t deny that now.

Kotone had a frustrated look in her eyes when she didn’t understand what I was saying. When I looked at the director, I saw an expression that said.

“Well, if that’s the case, I’ll have to give it some thought.”

The director was trying to sum up with an expression that said, ‘I don’t even have to ask anymore’.

I glanced at Kotone. So that she would know that it’s going to be okay. Kotone’s eyes were filled with feelings of what to do.

“Sir, I did indeed say such a thing.”

“However, it was only to help Shiraishi san, who was suspected of having an affair, and I didn’t mean it.”

“That can’t be true !”

I feel Yumi’s piercing gaze on me.

I ignored Yumi’s gaze and continued talking to the director.

“Then, If Mr. Director is suspecting me of having an affair, then I swear that I will not contact or talk to Shiraishi san at all in the future. I swear I won’t even talk to her.”

The director, Yumi, and Kotone had a completely different expression on this.

“If that’s true, I’ll let it slide this one time, but not next time.”

The director said nothing more and walked out of the office.

“I still don;’t trust you. If I see that one more time, that’s the end of you.”

Yumi looked at me with suspicion, as if she didn’t trust me at all.

“Kei, …… no, Yamamot -kun, I’m sorry. I was unreliable……”

Kotone was stuck at that word. The reason she didn’t break down in tears was probably because she tried so hard. Kotone seemed to feel responsible, like the woman she always was. A strong desire to hug her tightly reached its limit. Keigo took one look at Kotone. There was a weak smile on her face. Keigo left the room without exchanging any words with such expression.

To deceive your enemies, start with your allies. This was the best way to help Kotone, he thought. It no longer mattered to Keigo whether it was a listed company or an apartment. I’m going to prevent Kotone from getting married to Suzuki, which she doesn’t want.

For now, I need to gather evidence. I have to collect them so that Yumi won’t get suspicious.

That’s right, let’s send the data before it is erased.

“Kotone, we’re teaming up. You gather evidence on Suzuki. I’ll gather evidence on Yumi.”

“I’ll contact you later from another phone. There is a high possibility that this phone will be checked. Don’t ever contact me first, Kotone.”

“See you then.”

As soon as I hit send, I received a text from Kotone.

“Is that okay?”

Kotone seemed still worried about my relationship with Yumi.

After sending this much, I erased Kotone’s email address and all history from my phone. I also rejected all incoming calls and texts.

This phone is not good enough to trick Yumi. I headed to the cell phone store to rent another phone.
