Yagi Saki

Since entering high school, I have been a joy every day of my life.

This is because I had a fateful encounter with Matsukubo Takuma and got to go out with him.

Instead, I had to dump Kingo, who I had been dating for a short while.

But then I realized.

Kingo is less than a family, but more than a friend.

What I got was not the thrill of love, but a sense of relief.

I was a little worried that if we broke up, Kingo would turn against me,

as promised, Kingo never approached me.

I knew Kingo was kind.

After that, I joined a band with Takuma and started aiming to become a professional.

A terrific senior in his third year in the light music club who had cleared the first round of auditions in the Kansai area,

He chose Takuma as the vocalist and me as the chorus.

I had never thought I would be a music star.

With Takuma, I could do it !

We sang together every day in the Light Music Club and at karaoke.

It felt great to sing along with Takuma’s soothing voice.

We had the best time every day.

Takuma is the eldest son of a prominent family in the area.

His father runs a large real estate company and gives Takuma a monthly allowance of 50,000 yen.

So he pays for all of our karaoke and other date nights.

For my birthday in May, he gave me an emerald necklace.

I was so happy that I jumped up and down.

After that, we made love in a hotel…

It was late June, one week before the final exam.

Before the midterms, Takuma and I spent the entire time studying for the exams together at my house,

We ended up flirting so much that neither of us got an average score.

I remember that when Takuma and I discussed where we would study for the midterm exam, he said we couldn’t study at his place, so we ended up at my place.

Until then, I had not told my mom or dad that I had broken up with Kingo.

Both my mom and dad loved Kingo, so it was hard for me to tell them…

But I couldn’t help it, so I told my mom that I would study with Takuma at home,

“Okay.”

She simply said.

“Did you know, by any chance?”

“I went shopping during Golden Week and bumped into Kingo kun.

You didn’t tell me.

I said to him

to come over for dinner once in a while.

Without knowing, I hurt Kingo kun’s feelings.”

“It’s a little awkward. Sorry. What did Kingo say?”

“He said he got dumped right after entering high school. He didn’t say anything about you.”

As expected, Kingo is attentive and kind.

If you get a red mark on the final exam this time, you will have to take remedial classes during the summer vacation.

But I’m going to make a music video for YouTube and I will be spending the night at TDL with Takuma.

I can’t afford to get a red mark…

I’m weak in math, which I’ve had trouble with since junior high school ! I may not make it…

What should I do?

Takuma has been teaching me, but his mathematical explanations are so bad that it’s hard to understand.

Last year, my childhood friend Kingo taught me,

My grades improved a lot and I got into this high school.

It’s a little difficult to ask for help now that we’ve grown apart, but I’ll ask Kingo to teach me !

He’s such a sweet childhood friend.

I thought I was going to contact him on line, but before I knew it, he had blocked me !

When I tried to call him, the line went through the operator !

Eh !

We’ve known each other since childhood !

Isn’t that a little harsh?

I had no choice, so I called out to him during lunch break.

I can’t call him Kingo, but I don’t want to call him Samejima…

“Erm, I need to talk to you for a minute. Can you come over?”

“…….”

Until then, Kingo had been talking happily with Kioka san, Kumagai san, and Sudo kun,

When I spoke to him, he turned into a Noh mask and silently agreed.

I felt bad for Takuma for talking to him alone, so I asked him to follow me.

We faced each other for the first time in a long time without anyone around.

I tried to smile affectionately, but Kingo’s Nioh mask did not crack even a little.

His eyes were vacant and expressionless.

I thought that Kingo, who is kind and sweet, would accept it.

I was starting to get worried.

“H-hey, I have a favor to ask you.

Can you help me with my final exam, even if it’s just math?”

“No.”

I asked as politely as I could, but the response was no.

But if I told him of my dire situation and appealed to his emotions more…

“……Hey, you know, we’re shooting a music video for our band during the summer vacation.

So I can’t take make-up classes.

Hey, just this once, teach me.

We’ve been helping each other out for so long, haven’t we?”

“We’re just classmates now. Why don’t you ask someone else?”

“Eh !”

In my mind, I’m just keeping my distance from him because I don’t want Takuma to misunderstand,

He’s always been an important childhood friend of mine !

Why did he say that?

“We’ve known each other since childhood !”

I shouted in a rage, but Kingo remained cold and hard.

“We’re just classmates now.”

“…”

I exclaimed, and Takuma spoke up calmly.

“I’m sorry for making you uncomfortable, Samejima kun.

You said earlier that you were gonna have a study session with Sudo kun and the others.

Would you be interested in joining us?

We’re classmates too, right?”

“Then I won’t go to the study group.”

Even though I begged him, Kingo’s stubbornness did not change,

Takuma, who was always so calm, was confused by Kingo’s stubbornness.

“Hey, please. I’m in real trouble.

I’ve already booked the equipment and location for the band’s music video shoot, and we can’t afford to take make-up classes.

So, please.”

“Heh, that’s a lot of work. Good luck with that. This is enough, right?”

Even though Takuma was asking so seriously, Kingo only gave lip service and turned his back on him.

“You’re so narrow-minded, that’s why I dumped you ! You’re a bully !”

Kingo was startled by my scream, but he returned to the classroom without stopping.
