The adventurers’ guild in the mid-size city of Bren is bustling with activity today.
Guild staff members rush to and fro, and parties of adventurers are looking up requests on the bulletin board. Adventurers presenting the parts of their certificates of defeat of defeated demons at the appraisal counter are accosting the staff members, asking if their assessments are not correct.
The place is called “Bren,” the adventurer’s town, and the building is full of life.
However, there is only one place in this lively Adventurers’ Guild that radiates a somber gloom. In a corner where chairs and tables had been prepared as a resting area, there was one table that everyone was careful not to touch.
The two girls sitting there are both of exceptional beauty. If a pretty girl were to sit unprotected in a place where people who do rough work for a living gather, the roughnecks would not normally stop messing with her.
However, no such situation has arisen, and everyone is keeping their distance from the table. Such a situation exists because of the teachings of predecessors who made mistakes in the past.
Countless times, half-witted men, who were puffed up by the fact that the girls were all good-looking, called out to them and were met with painful repercussions. And so, one day, no one approached the girls anymore, and now, the time has come to live peacefully.
The two girls – Ur and Rietta – looked up when they saw Anri walking up from the request counter in the back, not caring that the men in the guild were looking at them with a somewhat fearful look in their eyes.
“I’ve got the reward. This is for both of you.”
Ur and Rietta took one look at the coins on the table, and without counting the amount, they put them back in their pockets lazily. Anri sighed as they stood there again, looking blankly at each other with a gloomy mood.
“You know, both of you. Let’s go with a little more energy. I know you miss Tale, but…”
The two’s shoulders jumped at the name she uttered. The change was dramatic.
“Tale …….”
Ur’s obsidian eyes were glazed over as she looked down and muttered Tale’s name in a muffled whisper.
And worse was Rietta. A single tear spills from the eye as if the face, which looks younger than its age, has become distorted.
“Ah, ha, ha. That’s funny, ……. I’m crying all by myself. ……”
Rietta, who gave a muffled laugh to cover it up, wiped her eyes with the sleeve of her dress. It’s as if she was trying to shake off the sad memories, over and over again.
Anri saw the two of them and let out a big sigh, saying that the two of them have been like this for a long time these days. As the party leader, she put her hands on her hips as if to blackmail them and said
“Why don’t you two cut this out? I don’t blame you for being unhappy about Tale not being here, but I can’t take care of you if you continue like that while I’m working. I’m only the leader because I’m the strongest one here, but I can’t follow up on everything like Tale can.”
Anri said as if to say something to her, but compared to Ur and Rietta, she did not sound as sad. In comparison to the two who are sinking at the thought of Tale losing his life, Anri, who is acting as usual, gives off a somewhat odd vibe.
The adventurers around the three of them gradually become more flustered as they realize that the atmosphere is not good.
Ur and Rietta raise their heads and glare at Anri. In response, Anri said in an indifferent tone
“-That kind of thing will make him angry when Tale comes back, right?”
“—-!”
At these words, Ur gritted her teeth. She raised her voice as if she were biting it.
“Anri, just stop this….!? Tale is already ……Tale is …… dead–“
At that very moment.
“Hey! trouble!”
The door to the guild was opened with a mighty bang, and the city guard, wearing simple equipment, came screaming inside. There was an uproar in the guild, wondering what was going on. Anri, Ur, and Rietta also took note of the commotion.
Eventually, several guild members rushed to the guard and asked the out-of-breath soldier,
“W-What’s going on? Something big is going on–is this some kind of stampede?!”
The adventurers were even more agitated by the officer’s words.
A stampede is when demons in nearby forests, mountains, and grasslands rush into a city at once for some reason. The city, which is surrounded by many demons, has walls surrounding its perimeter, but many veteran adventurers understand that once a stampede occurs, it can be a serious problem.
It doesn’t happen that often, but the fact that the city’s regular soldiers, not adventurers or civilians, had arrived foreshadowed something quite serious, as the officials said.
The surrounding staff and adventurers watched with bated breath as the soldier, who had managed to catch his breath, finally tried to open his mouth.
The guardian soldier opened his eyes wide and exclaimed, as if he still could not believe what was happening.
“–A high-ranking dragon with the attribute has been slain! A “dragon slayer” has emerged from Bren, the adventurers’ town, for the first time in a long time!”
The guild fell silent. But it was only for a moment, and in the next instant, the cries of each of them echoed through the building like an explosion.
“Imposible!! defeating a dragon with attributes like the heroes!”
“When and which party did it? The most powerful people in our house right now are the ones from the “Jade Flash”? What was the attribute of the slain dragon?”
“Hey, hey, hey, it’s a festival, a festival! for the birth of a new ‘dragon slayer’!”
The guild was no longer in control of the situation, with all kinds of voices flying around as they pleased. Some adventurers shook their heads in disbelief, while others began to make a fuss about the achievement, while others tried to gather information about who in the world had done it.
In the midst of all this, a guild official, anticipating what was about to happen and beginning to carry out his duties based on the words of a credible source of information, a guardian soldier, asks the soldier, who seems excited by his surroundings
“Is the information you just said accurate? Then I understand that you saw the dragon’s corpse. I’m also curious about who killed it, but is it correct to assume that it will be brought to the guild from now on?”
“Ah, well, yes. There was an adventurer who came back to town with the dragon corpse, or rather, with as much material as he could carry alone. Although he looked quite exhausted, he didn’t seem to have any major injuries, so I told him to go back to the guild when he wanted to go back to the inn. That’s why I came to report as the only one in the lead.”
“Alone? The other party members who …… were responsible for defeating him must have died in the battle. However, if that is the situation, there should still be material from the defeated dragon left on site, so I am glad that he told to come to the guild right away. It may be hard for that adventurer, but ………… so, what exactly is that person’s name?”
The man’s question instantly quieted the noisy surroundings. Everyone gasped, trying not to miss the guardian’s words. The only people who didn’t seem to be interested were the three members of the “Sword of Wheat” team.
The guardian soldiers, who looked a bit intimidated by the many stares they were receiving, regained their composure and regulated their breathing.
Then, the name of the “dragon slayer,” which is on everyone’s mind, is uttered from his mouth.
“The one who brought back the dragon material is a member of the “Sword of Wheat,” an iron-grade adventurer named Tail.”
—- , three girls reacted.
Anri’s eyes widen and she looks at the guardian soldier. Ur’s ears, which had been drooping weakly, stood upright and he put his hands on the table with force. Then, Rietta stood up without thinking, and the other two also stood up from their seats and turned to the door of the guild branch.
Then, without any time passing, the double doors slowly opened with a sound…

Wow, we sure got to his return rather quickly. I was expecting at least 3 or 4 more chapters of him training his ass off at the bottom. Preferably, we would have gotten arifureta’s infinitely more accurate pacing of 2 whole ln volumes, but I don’t expect that kind of attention to detail from jp novel authors anymore.
