Episode 2 – Valley bottom, encounter

“——!”

I fall down at a very fast speed, wriggling to avoid hitting the rock face and trees. The cliff tops were getting further and further away from me, and it was getting darker and darker around me.

At this rate, I would eventually reach the bottom of the valley.

“D-Damn!”

I clenched my teeth and quickly changed my mind from my stunned state. Then, I hurriedly began to prepare to build my magic.

With my sword gone, the only way I could save myself was through magic. The ground is getting closer and closer, and if I don’t make a move soon, I won’t be able to save myself.

The four magic cards I could use were fire, water, clay, and earth. If there is a possibility, it would be to kill the impact by blowing wind strongly toward the ground. In addition to that, it would be good to make the ground muddy and cushioned with a combination of water and earth.

However, is it really possible for me, an ordinary magician, to do magic with three attributes in parallel in a short period of time?

–……No.. It’s not a matter of whether or not I can do it. I’m not going to die here if I don’t do it!

I start to build a magic circle with the intention of dying. There are two types of magic I will use. The wind attribute magic [Great Wind] and the water/earth attribute combined magic [swamp].

One day, I desperately tried to do the trick Rietta had told me about using two magics at the same time, which is to build a magic circle one with my right hand and one with my left hand. I had never been able to do this even in practice. But if I don’t succeed with both of them, my body probably won’t be able to withstand a fall of this speed.

I desperately construct the magic circle. The first one, [Great Wind] in my right hand, is not a difficult magic, and even so, it completes construction at the fastest speed ever. I then maintain a state in which I can activate the magic as soon as I pour in the magic power and excite it.

However, the problem is the left hand [Swamp]. This magic is a compound magic of two attributes, so even if I did not activate it in parallel with another magic, it would still be too difficult for me. If I had the time and the inclination to construct it as a single magic, there would be no problem, but under the current circumstances, it would be difficult to perform such a complicated magic operation while maintaining the magic circle of the【Great Wind】.

Yes, it was indeed an extremely difficult task. If it had been me, who had been fighting without risking my life while being supported by my friends, I would never have been able to activate it.

–However. But at this moment, when I had no friends and my life was about to be destroyed.

The magic circle of “Swamp” was being constructed at the tip of my left hand at a speed that could be described as “the power of a firepit”. If it weren’t for such a moment, I would be very proud of my brilliant technique.

Then, I caught a glimpse of the ground that I would reach in a few more moments. I stretched out my hands, with the magic circle floating just below them, and poured the magic power of each attribute that I had instantly kneaded inside my body into the magic circle through my hands.

Instantly, a storm is triggered and a muddy mud slush is created at the landing site.

–Then, without a blink of an eye, I reached the ground.

“–Ughhhh!”

My body was hit by the recoil of the wind blowing to the ground. Even though it is the wind, my whole body is subjected to a great deal of force as it catches a human body falling at high speed from a height.

In addition, it seemed that the force of the wind alone was not enough to catch my body. I slowed down considerably, but still did not stop falling.

Soon after, I rolled my body to prepare for the impact and closed my eyes, believing in the [Swamp] that I had created.

—- And then, a huge shock hit my whole body.

I am slammed into the mud, bouncing on the ground several times, and eventually my rolling body stops.

My head is spinning. My vision is distorted by the impact, and I can’t stand up properly, as if my sense of balance is off.

–Still, I am alive.

I put my hands on the ground with my soiled body and managed to raise myself up and let out a small laugh.

“I survived. I fell from such a high place and I’m still alive. ……”

I was terribly excited, perhaps because I had been on the brink of life and death. Although I must have hit my body hard, I don’t feel much pain.

I am more pleased now that I survived the desperate situation I was in. I sat on the ground for a while, thinking about the fact that I had managed to survive and the fact that my magic skills had peeled off at the last minute.

I wonder how much time has passed since then.

Eventually, the extreme excitement calms down and I am able to just take stock of my surroundings. At the same time, I gradually begin to feel pain and heat in various parts of my body.

–Now, what should I do now ……?

I stood up, whipping my tattered body, and brushed off the half-dried dirt from my body.

For now, it is impossible to climb up to the top of the cliff, so I have no choice but to continue along the valley to the outside.

I tried to move forward with my aching body, hoping to at least find a place to rest before it got dark. But then.

–I heard footsteps…….

I turned around at the sound coming from behind me. I looked over and saw several large wolves with silver fur.

The wolves–silver wolves, the higher species of gray wolves–were staring at me with drool hanging from the corners of their mouths and their throats gurgling.

–When I went down to the bottom of the valley, I found myself in the lair of a powerful monster. I am now without a sword, and I have wounds all over my body. Still, in order to survive, I have no choice but to fight. ……

I make up my mind and increase my whole body’s magical power. Build a magic circle quietly and quickly so that I can activate magic at any time.

Then, I silently confronted the Silver Wolves who were gradually closing the distance between us.

–Thus begins my long battle alone. I had no idea that the battle at the bottom of the valley would continue for more than a month.

At the same time, I had no idea how the people I had left behind on the cliff would feel about me, or what they would do when they thought they had lost me.

I would pay a huge price for this action after I managed to come back from this hell…
