—Today is Saturday of a week that has already been a week since the rumors about me started circulating.
But other than the first day, I didn’t get any looks of disdain, so it didn’t really matter.
Yui said that I would become popular, and it was true that after this incident, I was being talked to more and more.
Well, I think it is different from the popularity that Yui was talking about, because I’m popular with both men and women.
And even when they talk to me, it’s just to say hello or have a casual conversation, so it’s not even close to being a friend.
Maruyama, a member of the soccer club, has been talking to me since the first day the rumor about me started circulating.
He asked me if I wanted to play soccer, or if I wanted to join the soccer club.
But he was not persistent, and when I refused, he just laughed and said it was a shame ! He was probably just trying to impress me.
Maruyama and I had been talking from time to time since we played soccer, and I once again thought he was a good guy.
Yui, by the way, has never seen with Koudo since then. She’s either with Akari, Mitsuki san, or me.
I think that’s why I often get stared at by Koudo,……or rather, he glares at me.
Well, it’s unlikely that I’ll leave Yui out of concern for Koudo, so that’s fine.
Yui was not going to forgive Koudo unless he apologizes, so I won’t say anything.
Yui had lunch with me every day during lunch break this week.
From what I’ve heard, Koudo also found out that I was helped by Yui in this case, but I guess he can’t apologize sincerely for saying something like that to Yui…maybe.
It wouldn’t be strange for a second-year high school boy to have some kind of stupid pride.
I’m curious about the relationship between Mitsuki, Akari, and Sakai due to Yui and Koudo’s rift, but I have more things to think about right now, so I can’t focus on that much.
Today after school I have a part-time job at a bookstore in front of the station.
It’s not that I really need the money.
My family is fairly well-off, but I don’t have many friends, and I rarely go out on holidays, so I have too much free time.
So I decided to take a part-time job at a bookstore, because I used to like manga and novels, and I happened to see a poster that was looking for a part-time]r.
Besides, my personality would not allow me to use my parents’ money to buy books. Or rather, that’s the bigger reason.
And this Saturday, that is, tomorrow. Akari’s mother……I remember she said that her mother is blood related to her? Well, her mother was able to come home a little early, and she wanted to thank me through Akari, so she contacted me and invited me to dinner.
I don’t need gratitude……but I thought I had to talk to Akari’s parents about this matter anyway, so I decided to accept the invitation gratefully.
I was wondering what I should do since I know she lives in the same house as Koudo, but Akari must have sensed that Koudo and I don’t get along well, so she arranged for me to be invited on a day when Koudo was playing with his friends and eating out at night.
“Well, let’s focus on my part-time job for now. It’s only the first day.”
So I cleaned myself up and headed for the bookstore in front of the station.
◇
“Okay ! I’m looking forward to working with you starting today.”
“Yeah. I’m going to ask you to take a look at this paper for the detailed rules, and if you have any questions, just ask.”
This soft-spoken woman is the manager of this bookstore, Sasazawa san.
Sasazawa san and her husband run the restaurant, and since they are both over 60 years old, the husband has become ill and has increased the number of part-time workers.
–I had just finished checking the detailed rules when Sasazawa san came into the waiting room.
“Is it about time?”
“Yes ! I’ve gone over everything, so there’s no problem.”
“Ah ! Oh, yes, Shindo kun, my grandchild, who was in the back earlier organizing the inventory, is here, so if you need anything, you can count on her.”
“Oh ! Yes, I understand. Your grandchild was also working part-time.”
“Yeah. She has been working for us regularly since her grandfather collapsed. She said she could work at the store while studying.”
Sasazawa san looked very happy as she talked about her grandchildren.
I can tell just by looking at her loving smile that her grandson must be a very kind and good kid.
“What a good grandchild.”
“She is……”
This led to several minutes of grandchild’s talk, but Sasazawa san came to herself and ended the conversation.
–After I finished my conversation with Sasazawa san, I went out of the waiting room and headed for the cash register to get ready for work, and there was a woman I knew.
[ [Eh?] ]
We were both surprised, Mitsuki san was there.
“T-the part-timer who’s joining us today is…….”
“Right. I think I might be that part-timer.”
“I-I see……”
“Erm. Miyamoto san, are you Sasazawa san’s grandchild?”
“That’s right. Sasazawa is my mother’s maiden name.”
Is that so…if that’s the case, I can understand why Sasazawa san was praising her grandchild so much.
What kind of coincidence is this?
“What a great coincidence. I never expected Miyamoto san to be here.”
“I didn’t think that Koudo kun was a part-timer either.”
I looked over at the cash register and saw that Mitsuki san was studying.
“You’re studying while working part-time, aren’t you?”
“Yeah. Well, when there are a lot of people, I don’t have time to study, but there aren’t many customers right now…Grandma also told me to study.”
“That’s great. But be careful not to get sick like before.”
“Yeah. Ever since Shindo kun told me, I’ve been conscious of that, so it’s okay ! Also, studying while working part-time at a bookstore is a nice change of pace.”
I think once again, the girl called Miyamoto Mitsuki is a truly talented person.
She spares no effort, is kind to others, and cares about her friends and family.
“I see. Take care from now on.”
“Yeah ! Thanks.”
Mitsuki san replied with a smile when I said that.
–After that, more and more customers started coming in and it got busier, but time passed and it was time for me to leave.
Mitsuki san was working at the cash register and I was basically on the floor, taking out items and organizing them.
This bookstore is quite large, so I had to keep track of what was where, so it turned out to be a busier first day than I expected.
I’m confident in my ability to carry books out of the store, so it’s no big deal.
“Shindo kun ! Shall we go home together?”
I was getting ready to go home when Mitsuki san said to me.
The closing time of this bookstore is 23:00, and it is currently 19:15.
A college student was going to start working from 19:00, so Mitsuki san told me she was leaving, too.
Mitsuki san’s house is not that far from here, but it is getting dark outside, so I should give her a lift home.
Yui and Akari had been in danger in a row.
“Sure. Then let’s go home together.”
“Yeah !”
–I was talking with Mitsuki san as we walked back home together.
“Come to think of it, why did you start working part-time, Shindo kun?”
“I was bored, so I started working part-time. I was also bored, but I buy a lot of comic books and novels. I buy a lot of manga and novels, but I don’t like to buy them with the money my parents give me. I wanted to buy them with the money I earned anyway.”
“You’re a great guy, Shindo kun, aren’t you?”
“No, that’s not true. Isn’t it normal for people to work part-time because they want something?”
“I wonder. I think there are some people who think that is normal, but if you are a high school student, I think there are more people who buy things with money given by their parents. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course.”
I see. Certainly none of the few friends I had in my previous life had part-time jobs, but I think if they wanted something…..they’d ask their parents to buy it for them.
I think that Mitsuki san is much better than me in terms of greatness, because she works hard at her studies and helps her grandmother and grandfather.
“If that’s the case, I think Miyamoto san, who studies hard and works part-time to support her family, is much better than me.”
“I-I see……thanks,…..u-um Shindo kun?”
Mitsuki san called my name shyly.
“What’s wrong?”
“Um, uhm. Shindo kun, you call Yui chan and Akari chan by their names, right?”
“Well, yes…..as for Akari, she calls me Shindo senpai.”
“Oh, that’s right…so um……I haven’t talked to Shindo kun as much as Yui chan…but…are we friends?”
“Right. At least I think we’re friends.”
Her face was reddening as I said that.
“T-then…..I would like you to call me Mitsuki…….”
I couldn’t help but feel nervous when I saw Mitsuki san say this with her face turning red and looking up.
I’ve been getting more and more excited by Yui lately, but I didn’t expect it to be Mitsuki…….
I was silent thinking about this, but then I gathered myself and answered.
“Okay, I’ll call you Mitsuki san then.
When I said that, Mitsuki san nodded her head.
“You don’t need to use honorifics……I-I’ll call you Kei, too…..”
Mitsuki san said that with her face bright red.
As expected, I can’t refuse after being told this much.
“Uh, yeah, I understand. Then I’ll call you Mitsuki.”
I said, and Mizuki’s face turned even redder as I said so.
“W-well, then, my home is here…”
After saying that, Mitsuki ran into the house.
“…….”
And I looked up at the sky, thinking about various things.
