“What did you do over summer break, Class Rep? Just club activities as usual?”

Whether we got back early or late, getting scolded was a given, so the Class Rep and I decided to take our time heading back to the main gym.

And while we were strolling back, I asked the Class Rep what she has been up to over summer break.

“Hmm… Yeah, mostly just club activities so far.”

“Wow, I really respect people who do club activities.”

Doing something exhausting is something I just can’t believe. I was the kind of person who ran away from anything tough.

No, I was the kind of person who ran away from everything.

“Not at all~. Besides, Shota does club activities too, right?”

Oh, I forgot. It didn’t feel like a club at all, so I didn’t think of it as one. I just thought it was a group that got together because it was fun.

“Calling that a club… I feel bad for people who really put their all into club activities.”

“No, it’s not like that. Clubs come in all shapes and sizes. Putting your all into it isn’t the only way to be in a club. I think it’s fine to have fun clubs too.”

“Really?”

“Yeah.”

“But we just laze around and play all the time?”

“Shota, you always give your all even when you’re playing, so I bet it’s really fun for you.”

“But my legs are short, you know?”

“People with long legs look like they’d break easily. All thin and long, they’d snap right off.”

So-

so kind~! Honestly, only this girl and Fumi-senpai are nice to me.

It’s the fate of a joker, but since I’m always goofing around, everyone’s rough with me. You could say we’re close, if you want to put a nice spin on it.

But sometimes, I want to be treated gently too.

That’s why the class rep’s kindness really hits me right now.

“It’d be nice if I could hang out with class rep during summer break.”

“Yeah, that’d be nice.”

“Hey! The club members are talking about going to the summer festival. Want to come with us?”

This is a great idea! I blurt out.

“Huh? Is that okay? Wouldn’t it be better if just the club members went?”

“Ah, it’s fine, it’s fine. I said ‘club members,’ but we’ve only been in the club for about two months. We don’t really have that club bonding thing going on yet.”

There’s no cliquey vibe yet, so I think you’ll fit right in, Class Rep.

“Plus, you know four-fifths of them.”

“Shota and… Sarasa-chan and Haruka-chan and Ryusei-kun. Right?”

“Exactly! So I think everyone would be happy if you came, Class Rep!”

The Class Rep is popular in class, so no one would be upset if she came. If anyone did, I’d nickname them a contrarian jerk.

“Really?”

“Yeah! Unless you don’t like it…”

I deliberately chose a cowardly way to phrase it.

“I don’t dislike it! I’m happy! I want to go too!”

See? She agreed easily.

“Do you think the club president will be okay with it?”

“She’s a weirdo, but she’s a good one. She will never treat the class president badly.”

Had to warn her she’s weird beforehand, or she might’ve been shocked.

Come to think of it, the original story didn’t have any interactions between the class president and Fumi-senpai. Wonder what’d happen if they met? …This is exciting.

“Then I guess I’ll tag along too.”

“Oh~! I’ll let everyone else know then.”

“Yeah. Thanks.”

Phew~ That’s a relief. This means my fun, fun summer festival is officially set.

I was destined to be left out of the summer festival anyway, so I really wanted someone else there.

I could see a future where I’d be alone because the heroines would be too busy trying to impress Saotome. That’s why I wanted the class president there—so I wouldn’t be alone.

Even if I tried hard to liven things up—“Is everyone having fun?” or “Let’s go get yakisoba!” or “I saved a spot where you can see the fireworks perfectly!”—my value was just that I was in the way, preventing Saotome and the others from being alone together.

Of course I want to see them being lovey-dovey, but it makes me lonely.

I think I’m close with those four. That’s exactly why it hurts to feel left out.

That’s why I needed the class president. I wanted a situation where the heroines could flirt with Saotome while I had someone to talk to.

That way, I could watch them flirt and also deepen my bond with the class president—a perfect two-for-one situation.

“Look forward to it. I’ll make this summer festival unforgettable.”

“Yeah. I’m looking forward to it.”

Huh? What? You think I can’t make it an unforgettable summer festival?

It’s fine if I can’t. If I succeed, my reputation goes up. If I fail, no one will say, “Wasn’t it supposed to be an unforgettable summer festival?”

So actually, saying “this” is the better deal.

“It got pretty late, huh?”

“Maybe we walked too slowly.”

“We’re gonna get scolded.”

“Yeah.”

I won’t get scolded. I was just looking for the committee chair. I was volunteering, so I don’t deserve to be scolded.

If they get mad at me, I’ll just get mad back!

“Let’s get scolded together.”

“Why? Shota, you’re not involved.”

Don’t say I’m not involved. That’s sad.

“We’re accomplices, so we should both get scolded.”

“Fine. It’s my fault for saying I wanted to walk slowly with a directionally challenged person.”

The class president smiled gently at my words.

“Hehe. If the class president says so, I have an idea too.”

I flashed a defiant smile.

The class president stopped in her tracks, finding my words and actions unsettling.

“Kukukuku…”

“……”

The committee chair stopped, but I started walking slowly, gradually picking up speed.

“I’m gonna volunteer to be the only one the teacher scolds instead of you! See ya!”

I sprinted full speed toward the gymnasium.

“Hey, wait—”

“Teacher~! Please scold me~!”
