I was just wondering, is it okay to wear regular clothes when going to watch a practice game?

I’m not really sure, but since people cheer in uniform at places like Koshien Stadium, is wearing your school uniform considered proper etiquette? I think I heard somewhere that even on holidays, the rule is to wear your uniform when entering your own high school campus. Is that true? Does it vary by school? Where did I even hear that in the first place? Is gym clothes okay too?

Well, if I get scolded, I can just leave. I’ll worry about it after I get scolded. They usually forgive you if you apologize.

The trick is to apologize quickly and sincerely here, because sulking and complaining will just make a bad impression.

“Is it around here?”

“…I think it’s just a little further.”

We search for the general gymnasium while looking at our phones.

“Isn’t it over there?”

She points at a place that looks like it.

“…Looks like it.”

“Phew~ Looks like we’ll make it safely~”

Can’t walk for hours in this heat, after all.

As we approach the gym, we hear voices—not a man’s deep voice, nor a girl’s high-pitched squeak.

“Looks like you’re working hard.”

“…Yeah.”

“Shouldn’t we say hi to the teacher?”

“…I don’t know?”

“Well, saying hi won’t get us yelled at, so let’s go.”

“…Mm.”

Even if they said, “Why aren’t you coming to greet us!”, they probably wouldn’t say, “Why are you the one coming to greet us!”.

And so began our journey to find our advisor teacher, who was nowhere to be found.

“Ah, there she is.”

And just as we set off, we spotted our advisor teacher. Is the journey over already? We’d barely taken two steps out of the starting town.

It’s a distance where you could return to the starting town after doing the shrimp imitation twice.

“Good morning~”

Hisada-chan, standing next to me, gave a little bow.

“Hm? …Mizuno and Hisada? Why did you come?”

“Why? To cheer you on, of course~”

“Oh, really? Thanks.”

“Not at all.”

“I get Mizuno, but why Hisada?”

The advisor shifted her gaze from me to Hisada-chan.

“I asked everyone if they could come today, and Haruka-chan was the only one who said she could,”

I explained to the advisor, and Hisada-chan nodded.

“I see. Well, make sure you cheer them on loudly today.”

“Got it.”

“…Got it.”

Why are you answering the same way I did…?

“Coach!”

A familiar girl in a basketball uniform came running from about two meters away.

“It’s Sawada.”

“Huh? Why are Mizuno and Haruka here?”

“We came to cheer you on.”

“Seriously~?”

“Seriously. More importantly, is that okay?”

She seemed to have forgotten what she was trying to tell us because we were there. I felt kind of bad.

“Oh, right! Teacher! Riko isn’t here!”

…Riko? Ah, the class president. Since she’s the class president, I always forget her real name is Sasaki Riko.

“Huh!? She was here just a moment ago!”

“It’s her first time here, so she’s probably lost. Riko is incredibly directionally challenged.”

“Oh, right…”

The teacher brought a hand to her forehead and looked up at the sky.

Lost? Directionally challenged? In a place this small? How could anyone get lost here?

This isn’t just bad direction sense anymore!

“Is she inside?”

“Well… I think she’s probably outside.”

“Outside!? Did she come here to play street basketball!?”

Outside!? Where does the class president think we’re playing basketball today? Or does she think there’s a separate building?

“Doesn’t she have her phone!?”

“Her phone was in her bag.”

So she must have already tried calling it.

“What should we do… Mizuno?”

The advisor brought her clenched fist to his chin, pondering what to do, then caught my eye.

Hey, no way…

“You’re free, right? Go check.”

“Eh~! …Well, fine.”

No, I don’t want to! I seriously don’t want to! It’s already this hot inside, and if I go outside, the sun will attack me! Of course I don’t want to!

But, if the committee chair is in trouble, my desire to help her is stronger.

It’s only natural that I want to help her even a little, since she’s always been so kind to me.

“Thanks. Well, I’ll leave it to you. I have to watch practice.”

“Leave it to me.”

The teacher left us to search for the committee chair and went back to give instructions for the pre-match practice and the game itself.

“Haruka-chan, you help too, okay?”

Hisada-chan nodded.

“Alright, I’ll go search outside. Haruka-chan, you search inside. If you run into her, let me know you’ve found her.”

“…Got it.”

Did she like that answer?

So, that’s how I ended up walking around outside in this scorching heat, searching for the committee chair.

That said, I had no leads. I just wanted a tiny hint. Otherwise, I’d just be spending my time drying up.

Alright, let’s find the committee chair before I turn into a crispy dried-up husk.

Since the committee chair was outside before me, she might dry up faster than I do. Better grab a drink first. …Please don’t let her be dried up.

Wandering around, I spotted the committee chair in the distance. She was in a place that made me wonder how anyone even got there.

“Lost, lost chairman-chan♪”

I sang along to the tune of the Dog Cop song.

“Where is your home? I don’t know even if I ask♪ I don’t know even if I ask your name♪”

“…Shota?”

“So I came to pick you up, y’know.”

Ugh.

Feels gross. Gonna puke. Guh-guh-guh. Well, no wonder girls turn into frogs too. This time I turned into a frog, though.

What the hell were you thinking singing that? Do you seriously think that’s cool? If you do, you’ll never get a date in your life.

Just so you know, I wouldn’t do it. This is just what happened when I tried to be Mizuno the way I imagined him.

If you asked if the real Mizuno would sing that, I doubt he would. But when my worst traits and Mizuno’s worst traits fused together, this is what happened.

“Why Shota?”

“I came to surprise cheer you on, but the class president got lost, so they told me to go look for you since I am free.”

“Oh, I see. Thanks.”

“No problem. If the class president’s in trouble, I’ll go wherever I can.”

“Fufu”

She never lies, but she always hedges her bets with her phrasing.

“How on earth did you manage to get so lost?”

“I’ve always been hopelessly directionally challenged, me.”

“Well, at least you’re safe now. Here, have a drink.”

“Thanks.”

The way she took the drink from me, popped the cap, and brought it to her mouth was so smooth—she must have been really thirsty.

“…Can I take my time getting back?”

The class president asked that, looking a little embarrassed.

“Huh? Is that okay? We should hurry or the match will start!”

“It’s fine! I’m already getting scolded for getting lost, so getting scolded for one thing or two things is the same.”

“Huh? Wait, are you secretly a bad girl, President?”

“I am secretly a bad girl you know? Did you not like that?”

The class president gave me a mischievous smile.

“It’s fine~, it just makes you more charming.”

The fact she said that with that expression meant she probably thought I’d like it better if she was naughty. Well, I did like it.
