After I finished talking, the room felt just a little less tense.
At least, that’s how I felt.
I turned on the TV, but no one was watching it.
The sofa and coffee table, the usual setup.
Yet, the distance between us felt different than usual.
Mei-chan was sitting next to me, closer than usual. Our shoulders touched, leaving no room to escape.
Risa sat on my lap, hugging a cushion.
Her eyes were on the TV, but I knew her mind was here.

Oh no, as if competing, Mei-chan started pressing her arm closer and closer to mine.
No one had taken a bath yet. We hadn’t decided “what to do next.”
The silence dragged on.
It wasn’t exactly uncomfortable, but maybe because of what we’d just talked about, it felt… off.

Her voice was lower than usual.
Not the bright, cheerful tone she put on for her streams.

Risa buried her face in my chest.

“Be prepared.”

Mei-chan smiled contentedly,
and Risa leaned against me, looking relieved.
