“Alright, let’s start Question 1!”
As Mei-chan began, a certain scene appeared on the screen.
What was shown was a quiet corner of a provincial city stretching out beneath a slightly overcast sky. The road had two lanes, but traffic was light.
Along the roadside stood a hospital-like building with white walls,
and next to it, a low, gray shop.
Neither was new, but they looked clean.
Ginkgo trees lined the sidewalk at regular intervals,
and address plates reading only “◯◯ 2-chome” hung from the utility poles.
A light mosaic blurred the city/ward/district names, as expected.
Beyond stretched a gentle slope—more hill than mountain.
No snow in sight, but it feels like the kind of place that would get covered in winter…
And the likely deciding factor is
the blue signs at the intersection reading:
“Bunsei Street”
“Museum Entrance”
“○○ City Cultural Center”
Damn it, that was blurred out too…
‘Because I messed up the question wording, it turned into guessing the prefecture instead of the current location… Since it’s the first one, maybe it’s fine as practice.’
(At least it doesn’t seem to be Shikoku)
(What the heck is Bunsei?? No clue)
(Looks like Kanto, right?)
(Bunsei… wasn’t there a school in Tochigi?)
(That’s it!)
(If it’s an art museum and cultural center, isn’t it around Utsunomiya?)
This is Mei-chan’s stream, watched by many people.
It might be good for Geogueser.
I’ve never been to Kanto, so I don’t know.
Judging by the comments, it seems to be Utsunomiya in Tochigi, but all I know about Tochigi is Nikko Toshogu Shrine, gyoza, and Tochiotome strawberries.
Damn, now I’m craving gyoza.
“Our viewers seem to know better… So, with your help, I’ll answer this as Utsunomiya City in Tochigi Prefecture.”
When Mei-chan typed it into the answer box, the correct location appeared, and the previously mosaic-covered area was revealed in text.
Seriously, it’s the Utsunomiya Cultural Center.
“Correct~! Thank you everyone♩ Now that we’ve finished the first question, I researched and compiled some tips beforehand to help you improve. Even if you’re not good at geography, let’s read this together and try harder next time! From now on, I’ll only check the comment section when I’m really stuck.”
The flip chart changed, showing the materials Mei-chan had compiled.
Tips for Improving at Geo〇sser (Japan Edition)
- Look at the address labels on utility poles
- Look at road signs
- Look at place names or post office names on license plates
(Excluding cases with mosaic blurring)
- Look at convenience store logos and signs
- Look at bus stop shapes, road layouts, and overall atmosphere
- Look at mountain shapes
“Apparently, using these as clues can help narrow down the prefecture. For example, taking Utsunomiya City in Tochigi Prefecture as we just saw…”
The screen switched back to the previous scenery.
Signs for Bunsei Street, Museum Entrance, and Utsunomiya City Cultural Center.
‘As viewers may have noticed, the big clues were [Bunsei], [Museum Entrance], and [Utsunomiya City Cultural Center]. Bunsei is also the name of a private university in Tochigi Prefecture. The hill-like landscape is also characteristic of Tochigi Prefecture. It doesn’t seem to be mountains.’
I only knew about the food and famous places, so this is educational.
I should remember this if I go to Northern Kanto.
(Huh)
(I only knew about gyoza)
(And Mito Komon)
(That’s Ibaraki)
(Tochiotome strawberries are famous though!)
(There’s more than just Toshogu Shrine! Kegon Falls, Senbonmatsu Ranch, Ashikaga School, Sano Yakuyoke Daishi, and so on!)
(Oh crap, I don’t know anything…)
(Sano ramen is delicious though)
(I went on a trip there before. The Ōtawara beef steak was super tasty)
‘Thanks for all the comments. I haven’t been to Tochigi Prefecture either, so I’ll keep that in mind. I want to see all of Japan someday.’
(That’s right, Master)
(Yeah, totally)
(Master, you’re being led around, I get it)
Why!!!!
“Alright, let’s move on to the next problem. Let’s think about it together, keeping in mind the tips I mentioned earlier.”
The next problem began.
