“Hey, wait a minute!”
Before I could stop them, people started gathering faster and faster.
“Holy crap, it’s really Toka-chan!”
“She’s even cuter in person!”
“Isn’t it a miracle we go to the same high school as Asahina Toka?”
“Let’s take a picture! We can brag about this to everyone!”
Finally, someone even pulled out their phone!
“Sorry, no photos, please.”
Just as I tried to step in, Toka cut them off firmly.
With that one sentence, the buzzing crowd fell completely silent.
“Huh? Why not?”
“Come on, just one picture!”
A few discontented voices murmured.
How dare they say such things. That one picture could get Toka into serious trouble again.
As both her manager and her boyfriend, I had to make myself clear here.
“Because I’m with my boyfriend.”
Or so I thought, but Toka clearly stated something else entirely!
“Boyfriend?!?!”
And once again, the school gate erupted into chaos…
“You idiot! Everyone already knows she has been dating Hisaka for ages!”
“So that weekly magazine story was about Hisaka after all!”
“You betrayed us, Hisaka!”
What the hell do you mean betrayed?! Who did I betray?!
“No, no, no! I didn’t betray anyone! We never made any promises to begin with!”
“I thought Kuga-kun was the type to keep things secret.”
“I was trying to keep it secret!”
“Eh? But walking to school together? That’s totally obvious!”
“W-well, that…”
In tried to argue back, but couldn’t come up with a single counterpoint.
While I was trying to retort, Toka was just smiling at me with this serene, almost goddess-like expression. Seriously, what kind of face is that supposed to be?!
“This is officially our school’s number one couple, right?”
“No, no, no! Who officially recognized us?!”
My desperate protests fell on deaf ears as everyone around us got all hyped up over the “official couple” label.
“Everyone in our class already knows, right?”
“I mean, I saw Toka-chan eating Kuga-kun’s lunch during break.”
“And me? I tried to put a love letter in Asahina-san’s locker, but her indoor shoes had ‘Kuga’ written on them. I was sunk before I even confessed.”
“Whaaat!? ‘Kuga’ on her indoor shoes!?”
I almost wanted to bury my face in my hands.
It was a complete freak show… The first day of the second semester was way too chaotic.
“Ryo kun, let’s head to class soon.”
“Uh, yeah…”
Toka seemed completely unfazed by being surrounded like this, acting perfectly normal. Her voice didn’t tremble, her back didn’t slump—she stood tall and composed.
“Well then, let’s have a great second semester!”
Toka started walking briskly as if nothing had happened. Wherever she went, the crowd naturally parted to make a path for her. What the heck is this? A triumphant return to school or something? This is getting way out of hand.
“Toka-chan! Get me your autograph later!”
And then, another voice like that came from somewhere.
“Sorry. I quit being a celebrity. Besides—”
Toka smiled slightly and hooked her arm through mine.
“From now on, the only thing I’ll sign is my marriage registration with Ryo-kun.”
“”””Kyaaaaaaaaaa””
Everyone’s screams instantly transformed into stadium-like cheers that echoed throughout the place!
Aaaaaah! This is chaos! What the hell do I do with this commotion?!
“What’s all this noise?!”
A teacher who heard the commotion cut through the cheers!
…After that, we were safely (?) escorted to the faculty room.
◇
“Yes… yes… I’m sorry. I never imagined it would come to this.”
The guidance counselor’s gaze pierced me like a laser beam. I never thought I’d get scolded by a teacher over something like this.
“We’ve known about Asahina Toka for a long time, you know.”
“I’ll be more careful from now on…”
“So, why did this commotion happen?”
Well, even if you ask why…
As I agonized over how to explain, Toka, standing beside me, spoke up.
“Ryo-kun, I think this might be my first time in the faculty room.”
“We’re getting scolded by the teacher right now! Show some tension!”
“Huh? Why are we being scolded? Because we were being lovey-dovey?”
Toka’s remark sent a wave of laughter rippling through the staff room.
So embarrassing. Absolutely mortifying.
“Ahem. Both of you, please show more restraint in your behavior at school.”
“But, Ryo-kun—”
I desperately wanted to snap, “I’m talking to Toka!” but I held back. I absolutely refused to let this lecture drag on any longer.
After that, Toka kept looking around the staff room curiously, her eyes darting everywhere.
Ten minutes later—finally freed from the lecture, we both let out deep sighs the moment we stepped out of the staff room.
“Tired already this morning…”
“Hey, did we do something wrong?”
Toka asked that with an innocent look on her face.
“Not exactly bad, but you dropped way too many bombshells!”
“Huh? Like what?”
“Like what? Seriously?! You didn’t need to mention marriage registration forms!”
“But it’s the truth.”
Toka’s lips puckered in a pout.
She was sulking. Completely sulking.
“Anyway, since the teacher told us, act with restraint at school!”
“Tch, fine, if Ryo-kun says so.”
Even though she said that, her face showed she didn’t get it at all.
This means her behavior towards me at school needs some work too. Personally, I want Toka to just live a normal school life.
“…What should I do? I kinda don’t want to go to class.”
“Then should we just go home? We can chill at my place.”
“Like that’s gonna happen!”
Feeling gloomy, I headed toward the classroom.
Toka probably had no idea what was about to happen.
Tentatively, I placed my hand on the door and stepped inside the classroom.
“Welcome back! How was your staff room date?”
“Seriously, an officially recognized couple just popped up!”
“When are you signing the marriage registration?”
“Shut up!”
My shout was drowned out by the start-of-class bell.
This second semester is going to be way too rough…
