Chapter 3 Epilogue
I blew it. I blew it again. I went off way too big in front of Toka’s parents.
I’m definitely being influenced by Toka! To say something like that in public, and in front of her parents… But listening to them, I just got so damn angry.
Burdened with shame and regret over what I’d said, I returned to Toka’s house.
“Welcome home!”
Toka opened the door with a smile.
“Sniff sniff. I smell another girl. Did you cheat?”
“Of course not!”
Seeing Toka back to her usual self, I felt a deep sense of relief. This girl carries way too much weight behind the scenes.
“Hmm? But… it also smells kind of familiar?”
“Didn’t know you had such a good nose, Toka?”
“Woof!”
“Are you still going with that?!”
“Are you tired, Ryo-kun?”
“Well, somewhat…”
Mentally drained, I flopped onto the sofa. One crisis over, another looms. I blurted it out on impulse, but how am I supposed to go about re-educating Toka’s mother…?
“Ryo-kun, would you like a massage?”
“Really?”
“Since you’re in the middle of training plan.”
Taking her up on the offer, I gently turned onto my stomach. Toka’s slender fingers lightly touched my back.
With a gentler touch than I expected, she pressed along my shoulders down to my waist.
“Mm… right there, that feels just right.”
“Huhuuum, this is a piece of cake.”
Toka chuckled smugly.
But from her fingertips, I could feel her genuine desire to heal me,
and it made me feel like crying a little.
“Was Mom okay?”
“She was fine. Or rather, normal. She cared about Toka way more than I thought she would.”
“I see.”
“Huh?”
Startled, I sat up abruptly.
“How did you know I saw Mom!?”
“Just a hunch. I figured if you had something to tell me, it’d be something like that.”
“You’re surprisingly sharp!”
“Surprisingly? That’s redundant! I’m tickling you now!”
“Stop it! My sides are weak!”
“Actually, mine are weak too.”
“What are we doing sharing our weaknesses with each other…?”
Resigned, I told her everything that happened today without holding back. Toka fell silent partway through, listening intently.
“My real dad, huh…”
“What do you think about it?”
“Nothing at all. My dad is the person you know. But…”
Toka murmured softly.
“I guess I don’t really want to do things that would upset my mom…”
“I see.”
“Well, even though she’s like that, she’s still my mom.”
“You said it like that.”
Toka gave a small laugh. Her smile looked terribly embarrassed, yet somehow lonely too.
――Watching that face, before I knew it, I was holding Toka in my arms.
“…Next time we meet, I’m coming with you too.”
“Of course. It’s too much for me alone.”
Toka’s warmth seeped deep into my chest. Holding each other, we made that promise.
“Still, even with ‘training success,’ we’ve got a lot going on, huh?”
“So you’d rather have failed?”
“No. Because, Ryo-kun, you haven’t finished training me yet, right?”
“Yeah.”
“I’d be in trouble if you didn’t train me more.”
Sure, there are all sorts of things, but just like with Kagurazaka Kaede this time, I’m sure we can overcome anything together.
Besides, I’ve officially become Toka’s manager now!
“Toka?”
“What?”
“We’ve gotta get through our summer homework first…”
“Noooooooooooooo!!!”
