As soon as I reached the entrance, I spotted Toka’s father (dressed in a suit).
“Dad, what are you doing here?”
“Toka!”
Spotting Toka, Asahina’s father’s face lit up instantly. Compared to before, his expression seemed much brighter! He used to have this intimidating aura about him, but that seemed to have faded considerably.
“G-good evening.”
I bowed slightly to Toka’s father, feeling a bit nervous. Things had been complicated, but he was still her father.
And just moments ago, I was with her… Dammit, how did this happen!?
“Ah, Ryo-kun! Good evening!”
Her father greeted me with surprising warmth.
“I hate you, Dad!”
“Eeeh?! I just got here!”
“Think about how much courage it took me.”
“It took me a lot of courage to come here too…”
Asahina Fathher slumped his shoulders, dejected after being treated coldly by his daughter. They were having a conversation that was sort of in sync, sort of not.
“What brought you here today…?”
I was pretty flustered myself, so I ended up asking rather bluntly.
“It’s Ryo kun’s birthday, right? I came to show him some love too!”
“Whhaaaaaat!?”
He came here for the most ridiculous reason! Wait, the birthday’s tomorrow! Both Toka and her dad are jumping the gun way too much!
“Why? Because I owe you a debt of gratitude, Ryo-kun.”
“Huh?”
“You invited me to the dinner party, and you’ve been looking out for me, right? I’m really grateful to you, Ryo-kun.”
Toka’s dad beamed at me and reached out for a handshake. Man, this guy really has changed a lot…?
“Coming over at this hour? Don’t you have any common sense, Dad?”
Toka started lecturing him about common sense. Well, it’s fine… it’s fine, but somehow…
“Ugh…! B-but I just had to see Ryo-kun today!”
“Don’t talk like a stalker.”
“N-no! It’s my natural right as a father!”
“You don’t have that right, Dad.”
“Whaaaaaat!?”
Toka’s retort was merciless. Seeing his father slumped dejectedly right in front of him made him feel a twinge of guilt.
“Ryo kun… Does my daughter hate me…?”
“Huh? Ah, no, well…”
Why are you dumping this on me?! How am I supposed to answer this?!
And Toka’s just turned away with a “Hmph!” beside us.
“It’s… it’s fine. Probably, it’s not that she hates you… well, I think she’s just embarrassed.”
“That’s not it at all! Idiot!”
She called me an idiot. This is bad. Toka’s in a really bad mood.
“Haha… I see! So this is the whole tsundere thing, huh?”
“I don’t think it’s tsundere… Also, Dad, your personality hasn’t changed… has it?”
Toka’s dad was looking strangely moved. Ugh, this is a mess.
“Ryo-kun, thanks to you, I can actually talk to Toka-san like this now. Thank you so much.”
“H-huh…”
“So, I heard today was Ryo-kun’s consolation trip, and I wanted to do something for you too!”
Toka, you’ve been talking to your dad that much? Judging by this exchange, their father-daughter relationship seems to be going smoothly.
“I thought about a birthday present too, but I figured Ryo-kun probably wouldn’t accept anything fancy…”
“Well, yeah…”
“So I prepared this for Ryo-kun!”
“Huh?”
Dad handed me a booklet of several coupons.
In incredibly elegant handwriting, it said: “Toka’s Dad Will Do Anything Coupon.”
“What’s this?”
“An Anything Coupon.”
“No, no, no! I can’t use this!”
“Use this, and I’ll do anything.”
You two think alike! Even if someone senior gave me this, there’d never be a chance to use it!
“Ryo-chan, you can use this when you ask onee chan to marry you.”
“When did Kagurazaka show up?! Don’t just casually join the conversation like that!”
“I was right behind you the whole time. I just wanted to tell you how cute you looked with that old ribbon.”
Toka still wore the ribbon from her child actress days in her hair. Kagurazaka hadn’t missed it.
“Toka-san, that’s the one you wore when you first debuted, right?”
“Yeah.”
“I see. You really don’t dwell on the past anymore…”
“Yeah, there’s no point dwelling on the past.”
The Asahina Father and daughter shared a quiet moment. Apparently, that ribbon held special meaning for Toka.
…But all her belongings should have been taken. Whether Toka deliberately kept it or her mother intentionally left it behind, I couldn’t tell now.
“Well then… I’ll gratefully accept it… Though I’m not sure when I’ll have a chance to use it.”
“Yeah, if you ever need anything, just let me know.”
“Thank you. By the way, my birthday is tomorrow.”
“Eh?!”
I got a ‘Do Anything’ voucher from Asahina-san’s father. I doubt I’ll ever use it, but the thought is nice, so I’ll keep it safe.
“Well then, we’re heading back to our room to resume our lovey-dovey stuff.”
“That’s great, Toka-san.”
“Yeah!”
They’re laughing together, both parent and child, with incredibly happy smiles.
Wait, the conversation is weird, though!?
“Onee chan, Ryo-chan, let’s play cards.”
“You still haven’t given up!?”
Kagurazaka tapped my shoulder.
I’m tired of being the straight man… Just want to rest in my fluffy futon tonight.
“Ryo-kun, Ryo-kun.”
“Yes?”
As I tried to head back to the room, Toka’s dad called out to me.
“You know, I really support the two of you.”
“Ah, thank you.”
“But while you’re still students, please don’t do anything that could result a child.”
Ugh… This conversation just got unbearably awkward.
“Toka’s mother suffered because of that—”
Finally, her father muttered those words before leaving.
