Episode 9 – Ryoya, goodnight

“Here I am. This is my room.”
“Sorry to disturb you.”

I arrived at my destination, Riona’s room, and slowly walked in. The room was neat and tidy and had a calm atmosphere.

“Ah, Ryoya-kun. Are you nervous by any chance?”
“It’s the first time in my life that I went up to a girl’s room, so it can’t be helped, can it?”

Unlike most people who are used to women, I am a virgin who has never had a girlfriend before. It would be impossible for me not to be nervous. I put down my bag on the floor and sat down in front of the low table at Riona’s urging.

“I want to check your current level, so please take this quiz, which I made myself, picking up the subjects you’ve learned since you entered the second grade.”
“Hee, you went to the trouble of making this for me. Thank you.”

I received the quiz and said thank you. Riona still had a blank expression on her face, but it was probably just my imagination that she looked a little bit happy.
Then I started to solve the problems of the quiz. Incidentally, Reona seemed to be studying with me and was solving the same problems next to me. After a while, after solving all the problems, Reona and I handed the quiz to Riona.

“Ryoya-kun, how did you respond?”
“I knew, but not well at all. By the way, how about you, Reona?”
“I’m not so good except for English.”

Unlike Riona, Reona is not very good at studying, but she must have better grades than me. While I was thinking about this, Riona seemed to have finished grading the quiz and returned it to me.

“Uwaa, I knew this was going to happen, but it’s still a terrible result. ……”

When I looked at the grading results, nearly 70% of the answers were incorrect, and to put it bluntly, I was in shambles. And as expected, the results for Math IIB and Fundamentals of Physics were particularly bad, with the percentage of correct answers being less than 10%.

“I didn’t do as well as I thought I would either.”
“……No, no, no, you did much better than I did.”

Reona’s answer sheet showed that she got nearly 80% correct and seemed to have no problem at all. I had assumed that her results would be even worse since she had said she was not good at studying, but with this performance, I guess she is rather good at it.

“Compared to me, onee chan just isn’t good at studying, but actually she’s quite good at it.
“I see, so that’s how it is.”

I was feeling cheated, but after hearing Riona’s supplementary explanation, I finally understood.

“Ryoya seems to be bad at science subjects, so let’s focus on those today.”
“Okay, please be gentle with me.”
“I’ll be fine with that.”

Riona, who heard what Reona and I said, took out the textbooks of Mathematics IIB and Fundamentals of Physics from her bag and started to explain the problems. It was quite easy to understand as she taught us in a very detailed manner.

“It’s getting late, I think it’s time to call it a day.”
“…… is it that late already?”

I realize that quite a long time has passed since I heard Riona’s words. I was probably concentrating that much on my studies.

“Studying is tiring after all. I’m thirsty, so I’ll go get something to drink.”

After saying this, Reona left the room. Considering the fact that she had been rushing around, she was probably quite thirsty.

“Ryoya, how was my teaching?”
“Seriously, it was easy to understand. I feel like I can handle it if I continue to have Riona teach me.”
“I’m glad to hear that.”

While the two of us were talking about this, Reona came back to the room with drinks for the three of us on top of a tray.

“I only had barley tea, is that okay?”
“yeah, no problem at all.”

I took the mugi-cha from Reona.

“……H-huh”

I was feeling thirsty and satisfied, but for some reason I suddenly began to feel sleepy. My body began to feel unusually heavy, and I slowly sat down on the spot, unable to stand properly.

“Ryoya, what’s wrong?”
“I-I suddenly started to feel very sleepy. ……”
“It’s been a long day and a lot has happened today, so you must be tired. Well, Ryoya, you’ve been sick for a long time, so it seems like your stamina isn’t back to normal.” 　

It may be true if you ask me, but this sleepiness was unusual. The drowsiness is getting stronger and stronger even while I am talking with the two of them, and my consciousness is gradually fading away.

“I don’t think it would be good for your health if you push yourself too hard, so why don’t you just go back to sleep?”
“……, but …… that would cause …… trouble …… and ……”

I’m getting more and more out of order, and I speak in broken sentences.

“I’m sure you don’t have to worry about that. Neither me nor onee chan will ever think of you as a nuisance.”
“……Then ……I’ll take you at your word …….”

I decided that I would never go home in my current state, so I decided to accept the proposal. The best way to do this is to get a good night’s sleep.

“I’ll wake you up later, so don’t worry about that.”
“Ryoya, good night.”

After those two words, I completely let go of my consciousness.
