As promised, Saito san wrote an article about what I had said in the interview.

Saito san’s article was published in a newspaper and on an electronic newspaper site on the Internet.

Within half a day, it was all over the Internet.

[Toxic Parents.]

[Parent lottery]

[Poor Shinonome Tohru.]

[Betrayed by family members is really tough.]

[It’s really hard when your relatives don’t believe in you.]

[My parents are also very concerned about appearance, so I understand how hard it is for Shinonome Tohru.]

[It’s really over when they mistakenly think their son is a criminal and don’t give him food. I’m glad I wasn’t born into a family like this.]

There were many such abusive comments about my family and many voices of sympathy for me posted on the Internet.

The reason why the blame was directed at my family was because the way Saito san wrote the article focused on me rather than the incident that happened in the Kisaragi family.

In the article, he described in detail how I was treated by the people around me after I was falsely accused and labeled a criminal, based on his interview with me that day.

Professional writing is amazing.

The details of the lynching I received from those around me were written in a way that invites the reader’s sympathy.

It was as if the purpose of writing the article was to invite sympathy for me, who had been unfairly lynched beforehand, and to inflame the article.

I have heard that reporters intentionally write articles with inflammatory headlines and content in order to gain access.

“Well, that worked out well for me…”

Even if that were true, I did not feel the slightest bit of resentment toward Saito san.

In fact, the fact that Saito sam had spread the news was convenient for me, and I was even grateful for it.

The article reinforced the fact that I was innocent, which had already spread, and I felt somewhat relieved that the family who had wrongfully abused me was being bashed by the public.

I hope this helped them understand a little how I felt, having only two childhood friends, Risa and Hayato, on my side, and being labeled a criminal by all the rest of the people in the world, and being heckled by all of them.

“How did you like the article?”

A few days after the article was published and the flames were flared, I received a phone call from Saito san at my home.

Saito san asked me what I thought of the article that had appeared on the Internet.

“I think it was wonderful. Thank you very much. For spreading the facts.”

“Well, I’m glad to hear that.I hit the target a little too well and ended up on fire…….would you have been okay with that?”

“I honestly feel refreshed. It’s as if someone is scolding my parents on my behalf. I can’t really say anything from a child’s point of view.””

“I see. If you say so, it was worth it for me to write a stimulating article.”

Saito san and I chatted for a while after that, and we also talked about Kisaragi.

“I heard that Kisaragi Himehana is going to be detained by the police for a little while longer. She hasn’t come to school yet, has she?”

“Yes. I haven’t seen her since then.”

“I was wondering if you could…..let me interview Kisaragi Himehana san when she starts going to school again? I would like to write an article focusing on the Kisaragi family.”

“I don’t mind.”

“I see, thank you. I appreciate your cooperation.”

Saito san made me an appointment for the next interview and hung up the phone.

“Phew…”

After I finished the call, I let out a sigh and looked down at the business card that Saito san had given me.

It was not out of the kindness of my heart that I was responding to Saito san’s request for an interview.

It was because I thought this connection could be a weapon.

Recently, my father has been acting strangely at home.

Since the incident, he has not been going to work and has been living at home drinking alcohol and going to bed.

Sometimes when he passes me on the stairs, he glares at me with hateful eyes.

Something bad may happen to me again.

I was convinced that my connection with reporter Saito san would definitely be of some use when that happened.

“The best thing would be nothing happened….”

I was about to go back to my room thinking that I didn’t want to get into any more trouble if possible, but my sister Mio, who had apparently been waiting for the phone call to end, stopped me.

“Hey, Onii chan.”

“….”

I ignored the call and was about to enter my room when she grabbed my arm.

“I said wait ! ! Listen to me ! !”

“What? Can you please not touch me?”

I said as I brushed Mio’s hand away.

“….”

Mio frowns as if she is enduring something.

Don’t tell me that what I just said hurt your feelings?

You said a lot of things about me, like that I was a criminal and that you didn’t want to live in the same house with me.

I didn’t like the victimized look on my sister’s face and clicked my tongue.

Mio looked at me as if she was trying to be tough and said.

“Isn’t this enough ! ! How long will you stay angry !?”

“Huh?”

“You’re too narrow-minded, Onii chan ! It’s about time you forgave us ! !”

“What are you talking about?”

“Our family has already been punished enough. Don’t you agree? So what are you still mad about?”

Mio’s voice was shrill.

It was as if she was the one who was justified and I was the one who was wronged.

I scratched my head, feeling the frustration of dealing with such an idiot.

“You know….”

“What ! !”

“I haven’t even received a formal apology from you, Dad, or Mom to begin with, have I?”

“…..”

“How can I forgive someone who can’t even admit a mistake? Can’t you think about that for a second?”

“Yes, yes..! Then, I’m sorry ! ! Is this okay !?”

“It can’t be okay. What’s with that appropriateness? Show some sincerity.”

“What do you mean by sincerity !? I apologized exactly as you told me to !?”

“There’s no way I’ll forgive you for apologizing in such a perfunctory way. Do you have any idea what you did to me?”

“You’re the one who told me to apologize !? Why won’t you forgive me !?”

Finally, my sister went crazy and started yelling at me.

I knew that I couldn’t get anywhere by talking any longer, so I left her alone and went into the room.

“Uh… why won’t you forgive me… please… please forgive me, Onii chan…”

“……”

“Let’s go back to the relationship we had before…let’s be a family again…why are you still mad at me…?”

“…..”

“I…because of you…I lost my friends………no one contacted me back…I lost my place in class…ugh… I don’t know what to do.”

“What do you mean?”

When I asked, Mio shrugged and began to talk in an unintelligible manner about what had happened at school.

According to her, after Saito san’s article went viral on the Internet, Mio was not able to talk much with her friends at school, with whom she used to be on good terms.

It seems that she was bullied and bad-mouthed, but not to that extent, but she has completely lost her female friends whom she could call her best friends.

I heard that Mio’s ex-friends were very upset when they found out how Mio had treated me through Saito san’s article.

It seems that Mio was always talking positively about me to her friends, but when they found out that behind the scenes she and my parents were tormenting me at home, her former friends thought that she was a black-hearted girl and they didn’t know what she was thinking.

She is now being shunned by a group of female friends with whom she used to spend recess and after-school hours.

“I’m all alone, you know…? It’s because of Onii chan…….hey, what should I do?”

“No…I don’t know about that. It was completely your own fault.”

She was talking as if she was placing all the blame on me, and I couldn’t help but to butt in.

I’ve heard Mio’s story, this is completely her own fault, or rather, rust from her own body.

I can’t do anything about it, and I don’t feel the slightest bit of sympathy for her.

“ust do something about it yourself. You’re in a far better situation than I am.”

“….Ugh….I’ve been ignored by my friends…it’s been really hard…”

“Do they talk shit about you every time you pass by them?”

“Eh….?”

“Do you find thumbtacks in your shoes or in your desk? Do they throw your belongings in the trash can in the bathroom?”

“Eh…? Eh…”

“Do they call you a criminal every time they see your face? Are you lynched in club activities?”

“….What do you mean?”

“It’s all the punishment I’ve been getting. And you’re one of them.”

“…..”

“Your situation is far better than mine. I’ll say it again. Mio, your current situation is completely self-inflicted. Then you have to take care of it yourself.”

“Ugh…ugh…”

Mio begins to sob and cry.

This girl is always like this.

When things go wrong, she tries to cover up by crying.

I had nothing more to say, so this time I went into the room, roughly closed the door and locked it.

Yep. And now She’s crying a river about it. If She has the energy to be crying, She should at least use it to fix Her situation. No One learn using some Outsider’s mind.

Tohru-San’s telling Her the real facts has made Mío to collapse out of shame, self-loathing, and regret.

Since other commenters will likely be discussing the sister, I’ll talk about the father instead.

Imagine if the false accusation had stuck until graduation. He would have kept starving his son at home, then disowned his son by kicking him out once it became socially acceptable to do so. And with the false accusation hanging over the protagonist’s head, would anyone have hired him straight out of high school? Or would he be living/dying on the streets?

How can this man feel righteous fury in spite of planning to go scorched earth on his own son?

Man, and she really thought she’d be forgiven with that kind of “apology”.
It’s as if she was the one forgiving him, like “okay, okay, i forgive you” as if dealing with an annoyance

I don’t think he can hate them more. They are irredeemable trash in his eyes already but it’d be nice since he can easily say “What forgiveness are you guys talking about when you weren’t gonna show me any mercy?”
