[Kako’s Perspective]

“Nagisa chan ! You look cute today !”

It’s the second day of the school festival.

From early in the morning, I frown at the loud voices of the girls echoing through the classroom.

The morning shift group has already changed into maid uniforms, and my classmates are excitedly surrounding them.

The girls are overly enthusiastic, and the boys are foolishly going along with them.

And above all, I was annoyed by Amakusa herself, who was laughing in the center.

I can’t help it; I really dislike girls who pretend to be something they’re not.

I know she’s fawning over Tsukushi behind the scenes, so her humility is even more irritating.

What’s annoying is that thinking this way makes me feel like I’m the one with the bad personality.

I think that’s underhanded and malicious.

In the end, only stupid guys are making a fuss about how pure she is.

Even now, the boys’ eyes are focused on Amakusa…mainly her lower body.

Thanks to her miniskirt, her thighs, which are usually hidden, are exposed, so the boys are all staring at her.

It’s really disgusting.

Well, not all the guys were looking, though.

A few of them who had girlfriends seemed uninterested, just looking at their phones.

And most importantly, that Rio kun was also looking uninterested with a serious expression.

My opinion of that worthless guy, which had been plummeting lately, improved slightly.

Yeah, that’s right.

He’s a prideful, blame-shifting, super creepy loser, but he’s not the type to be easily distracted by women.

He’s usually praised for being handsome, so maybe he’s actually satisfied with his life.

Speaking of which, Rio kun was wearing his uniform today.

Yesterday, he was wearing a maid outfit and standing at the entrance as the poster girl, but maybe he got embarrassed.

It was genuinely creepy, so it makes sense.

“Kako chan, please take care of things from the afternoon onward. Until then, just kill time however you like.”

Hearing the girls say that, I think to myself.

This cultural festival, nothing is going as planned.

First of all, I couldn’t carry out the prank I had planned on Amakusa.

That’s because I can’t seem to find any time to be alone.

Something always interrupts me at the worst possible moment.

“Amane san, I’ll do my best today too, so please do the same.”

“……Tch.”

As soon as Nishiho turned away after speaking cheerfully, I let out a sigh of frustration.

Yes, it’s all her fault.

Every time I try to do something, she keeps making meaningless mistakes, and I end up wasting time cleaning up after her.

I’m starting to wonder if she’s doing it on purpose, and I’ve grown to truly hate that woman.

Because our shifts overlap completely, having to work together this afternoon and tomorrow is pure hell.

Plus, the fact that she seems to like me for some reason just makes it more annoying.

She keeps talking to me every time, and she creates situations where I can’t just ignore her, which is really annoying.

As the classmates started moving around, a few people were still gathered around Amakusa in the center of the classroom.

I could faintly hear their conversation.

“Amakusa chan, I hope Tsukushi kun comes today too.”

“I don’t think he will. Besides, there’s nothing between us…”

“Oh, then maybe with Reisa?”

“I don’t think so either.”

Amakusa replied awkwardly when asked by the girls.

Speaking of which, I know that yesterday, that childhood friend and the blonde vixen came by.

They seemed unusually close, so I can’t believe there’s nothing going on between them.

Besides, the blonde is 150 billion percent into Tsukushi.

As I glared at Amakusa from a distance, our eyes met.

Then she gave a faint smile…or so I thought.

“…Huh, are you trying to provoke me? Just because you think you’re smarter and better-looking than me?”

I still hate that woman.

I want to humiliate her no matter what.

Then Tsukushi and the other blind fools will despise her.

Inside me, another bit of hatred toward Amakusa and Tsukushi built up.

If possible, I want to do something during this cultural festival.

I decided to go around the morning cultural festival alone.

My female friends and male friends invited me, but I didn’t particularly want to go with them, so I went alone today.

It’s not that I don’t have any friends.

Also, it seems that I’m popular.

I was approached by a boy for the first time in a while, and I was a little happy.

He was a member of the sports club and was quite good-looking, so I felt a sense of superiority.

Well, I don’t have time to hang out with boys I’m not interested in.

Honestly, if it had been an unpopular, ugly guy who approached me, I would have been turned off.

If I were seen as a girl who would go for such a loser, I’d just get annoyed.

Still, there were couples everywhere.

Students from other all-boys schools were even trying to pick up girls, and I actually got approached earlier.

I’ve seen couples form during cultural festival periods before, but it felt fresh that it was still functioning as a place for people to meet on the actual day.

It must have been fun.

Walking around with her boyfriend, watching the lonely, unpopular virgins walking alone from the sidelines.

The main street was crowded with students from other schools, and it was annoying to be approached, so we went to the courtyard instead.

There seemed to be more club members here, so the atmosphere was different.

As I looked at the map distributed by the school, one food stall caught my eye.

“Cotton candy.”

I noticed the cotton candy stall and immediately recalled a memory from the past.

It was during the summer vacation of my fifth-grade year.

I managed to convince the studious Tsukushi to come to the festival with me.

At first, Tsukushi acted reluctant as usual, and I almost cried thinking that the yukata I had prepared would go to waste.

Looking back now, I don’t know why I even tried to invite such a person, but in the end, we were able to go together that year.

Usually, he was a bookworm, and my childhood friend, who I had already liked, was practically dead to me, but on that day, he was bright and cheerful like he used to be.

And for some reason, seeing his profile made me feel happy as if it were my own.

The old Tsukushi was cute, and he used to listen to my requests.

I can’t help but sigh, wondering why our relationship turned out this way.

If Tsukushi hadn’t aimed to become a doctor, things would have stayed the same.

We would have stayed close friends, going to festivals in the summer and probably even attending cultural festivals together like today.

People would ask us if we were dating.

And I would shake my head.

I would never initiate it, but if he confessed his feelings, I might consider it.

That’s the kind of relationship we had.

As I walked toward the cotton candy stall, the face of that annoying childhood friend wouldn’t leave my mind.

After the mock exam, he cut me off with a face I’d never seen before.

It was shocking to be treated as if our relationship had never existed.

He only studied and neglected me, and flirted with other girls, so he developed a bad habit.

He overreacted just because I teased him a little.

Actually, he said the other day that he’d never liked me, but I’m sure that’s a lie.

When we went to the summer festival in fifth grade, we ate cotton candy together, and he was definitely blushing.

His ears were bright red, and it made me nervous too.

I won’t let him forget that.

…When I think about it, everything went crazy at the end of middle school.

He must have neglected me because he was confused by a girl named Yamayoshi, who was only interested in grades.

Even now, he’s getting cocky because of Nanamura and Amakusa.

Ugh, it really pisses me off. It’s so annoying.

First of all, Yamayshi Fumino and Tsukushi were pretty close in third year of middle school.

That kind of distance wouldn’t be possible if one of them didn’t have feelings for the other.

I shook my head to reset my thoughts after remembering something unpleasant.

After walking around, I finally found the food stall I was looking for.

It didn’t seem very popular, as there was no line.

I thought it was convenient and walked right up to it.

And then, maybe because I had been thinking strange thoughts earlier,

when I went to buy cotton candy, there he was.

“T-Tsukushi?”

“Kako…”

For some reason, my unattractive childhood friend was there, trying to buy cotton candy alone.
