After leaving the Ryujin Suisha, we went to the awarding place to draw omikuji (fortune). I was hoping for a better result than the one I got when I went to the shrine on New Year’s Day and drew the omikuji.
“Ah, Yuito, look. I got great fortune.”
“That’s good.”
“I guess it’s thanks to my good daily conduct.”
Kano san seemed quite excited as she showed me the result of her fortune. She must have been very happy to have gotten a [Great Fortune] fortune.
I opened my own omikuji, hoping that I would get a [Great Fortune] as well. I opened my fortune and saw that it said [Small Fortune]
“Small fortune is lower than fortune, so I have been lowered in rank.”
“I win.”
“There is no such thing as winning or losing in fortune telling.”
“That may be true, but…”
“Well, I think what’s written is more important than fortune.”
While saying that, I started reading the fortune in order from the top. I was secretly happy because there were quite good things written in the Desires and Academics section, but the moment I saw the words written under love, I couldn’t help but raise my voice.
“Eh !?”
“What’s wrong, did it say something great?”
Kano san said that and looked into the fortune I was holding. Kano san was silently looking at the fortune, but she seemed to immediately realize why I was surprised.
“Hhy, there are some things written that tell you to give up on love.”
“…I feel like it’s a bit of a stretch that the fortune I drew after coming to the matchmaking shrine ended up like this.”
“I think it’s rather rare, so in a way you’re lucky.”

It’s not like God is telling me to give up on love. I’m not kidding, it looks like it’s going to be mildly traumatic. I don’t want to pull out any fortune for the time being, and I don’t even want to see it.

While talking like this, we started to tie the omikuji at the designated place in the temple. I heard that it is okay to take the fortune home, but the results were too disastrous for me to do so.
“Do you know why people tie fortunes?”
“As I recall, it’s to make a connection with God…….”
I knew this because I had heard such a story somewhere. Well, I had completely forgotten about it until I remembered it now.
“Oh, yeah, there’s this idea that by making a connection with God, you can get things to go in the right direction.”
“If there really is a God, I’d like to complain to him about the terrible consequences I’ve had to endure.”
“You would be punished if you do that.”
Then we finished tying the omikuji and started walking in the opposite direction to where we had come from to get to our next destination. We continued walking and chatting until we came to the shore of Lake Ashi. Our goal was the vermilion gate standing on the lake.
“This is the Gate of Peace, isn’t it?”
“It will make for some great pictures.”
The view of Lake Ashi from the gate seemed to be the best place to take pictures, and there was a long line of people waiting to get in. The view of the Gate of peace and Lake Ashi is probably one of the most beautiful spots in Hakone.
Incidentally, the Gate of Peace seems to have been built to commemorate the San Francisco Peace Treaty signed with the Allied Powers after World War II.
The words [Peace] written by the prime minister of the time are written on the flat plaque, but unfortunately, we cannot see it from the land side where we are standing now because it faces the lake side. After waiting for our turn, we took a selfie of the two of us in front of the Gate of Peace.
The picture taken in front of the gate, which looks as if it is floating on the lake, looks really good on SNS. As I was thinking this, Kano san was about to upload the photo to SNS.
“Wait a minute. Are you by any chance going to post this?”
“Yes, what’s the problem?”
“There’s nothing but a problem, right? Even if it’s just Kano san, why are you suddenly posting a photo of us together? In the first place, how on earth are you planning on explaining to them about me?”
No matter how I think about it, I feel like it’s going to give a lot of misunderstanding to people who see the post.
“Hmm, should I call you my boyfriend?”
“No, no, my brother and Suzuno also follow Kano san’s account, so you don’t normally do that.”
I didn’t want Suzuno to misunderstand, but even more than that, I absolutely didn’t want my brother to find out about this little trip. Even though I had gone to great lengths to keep my mother quiet about this short trip, it will go to waste.
