“Then, please move your seats ! Those with odd student ID numbers, please move !”

The secretary shouted, and everyone sat up with a drink in their hands.

The New Welcome Party is an opportunity to interact with new students. It is not a gathering of new students in one place, but a chance to interact with a wide range of people.

This is indeed one of the university’s largest clubs. I wondered if the phrase [get along with everyone] literally meant all the members.

I’ve become somewhat more social since starting the band, but my inward-looking nature makes me a bit shy. I was feeling less nervous today because I was sitting in the same room with Ari san.

“We were told to move. But my number is even, what about you, Kingo?”

“I have an odd number, so I’m moving. Let’s meet up again later.”

I said goodbye to Ari san for a while. Today I was accompanying Ari san for her debut drinking party, but after seeing the atmosphere of Silk Road again, I decided it was safe to leave.

The management has strict regulations on underage drinking, and they have also notified us that we are not allowed to force the junior to drink, so there is no need to worry about her getting into trouble with alcohol.

However, it is still possible that she could get tangled up with drunken upperclassmen.

“Please call me if you feel uncomfortable being alone.”

So I quickly whispered in her ear.

“Kingo, you’re such a worrier. They are all good people, so I’m sure I will get along with them soon.”

That’s not what I meant. I’m sure Ari san will be very popular, but I’m worried that she’ll be too popular and get herself into trouble.

However, I couldn’t just sit there acting like a guardian, so I decided to move my seat as instructed.

Now, where should I go? My friend in the literature department belonged to the group, so I should go there.

“Hey, Kobayakawa kun !”

I heard a girl’s voice calling me as I wandered around looking for a seat that looked vacant.

Huh? It was a voice I didn’t recognize. Who in the world is calling me?

Or did I mishear?

“Kobayakawa kun, over here, over here !”

As I walk slowly, looking for the owner of the voice, I see a female student beckoning to me. She was a beautiful, clean-cut woman with red cell-frame glasses and short hair.

Eh, such a beautiful woman is calling me !?

Is it a miracle or someone’s conspiracy……

I took off my shoes and sat down in an empty space as she beckoned me to come in.

“Hello. Um…..have we met before?”

“We’ve seen each other a few times. You see, we’re both friends with this girl.”

The glasses girl clung to the shoulder of the girl sitting next to her, Kanda Ryoko.

She is a cool, beautiful girl with sharp, slender eyes and a sharp little face that catches the eye. Even without my friend’s favoritism, she is considered to be the most beautiful girl in today’s gathering. Perhaps because of this, the boys in the vicinity kept glancing at Ryoko and then looking away from her.

“Hey, Ryoko.”

“Yo, Kingo. You really came.”

“Hm. Ari san is over there. Please call out to her later.”

Ryoko did not say yes or no, but put the can of oolong tea on her mouth and gulped it down. Ryoko is a drinker, but since she is still a minor, she is holding back with soft drinks today.

“Kobayakawa kun. You’re still in your second year, right?”

Ms. Glasses, who saw my hand, asked me suspiciously.

“Yeah. But I turned 20 on my birthday last time, so the drinking ban has been lifted.”

“When is your birthday?”

“April 9th.”

“That’s not a good omen.”

Four is an unlucky number. Yeah, it’s definitely bad luck.

“What about Ryoko?”

“4th September.”

“Also a bad omen !”

Yes, this is a promise. Whenever we talk about birthdays, we always do it.

“Ahaha, you guys really get along well with each other. Oh, I’m late to introduce myself, I’m Endo Haruna. I’m in the same Department of Business Administration as Ryoko.”

“I’m Kobayakawa Kingo of the Japanese Literature Department.

“Can I call you Kingo? You can call me Haruna, too, if you like.”

Ms. Glasses, known as Haruna, slammed her beer down on the can of Coke she had just poked out.

I see, I thought I recognized her, she was a friend of Ryoko’s.

“Well, well, well. I finally got a chance to talk to you, Kingo. I have a lot of questions for you, hmm?”

“Things you want to ask me?”

“Yes, yes. As Ryoko’s boyfriend, I have to say hello to you, don’t I?”

[ [ [Bwaah !?] ] ]

Everyone blew up.

Haruna, what a sudden acceleration to suddenly throw in a love story. I’m sure she’s drinking rum that disguised as Coke.

“(Is that Kanda san’s boyfriend?)”

“(She must have a man when she’s that beautiful……)”

“(Yes, my student life is over〜)”

There you go. The new students don’t know how to react, and they’re all in a tizzy. The air has become more subtle.

“Haruna, don’t just barge in on me like that.”

“That’s right ! And I’ve already told you before, we don’t have that kind of relationship.”

“You don’t have to hide it. Everyone knows that you two are good friends, so you should take this opportunity to report your relationship.”

“What do you mean [everyone knows]? Don’t treat us as if we are an official couple.”

A sigh of exasperation escapes me.

A long time ago, there was a guy and a girl in my class who were really good friends and everyone was making fun of them, but I don’t remember doing anything that would cause that kind of misunderstanding, right?

Ryoko and I are good friends, but since we are in different departments, we don’t have many chances to see each other.

We occasionally talk to each other in passing, sit next to each other if we happen to meet in the library, or meet up for a cup of tea when we have free time in our classes. The only other thing is regular circle activities.

…Well, Ryoko and I surprisingly went to university together. Well, we’re friends, so it’s normal.

“Well, if you keep showing off something like that, I don’t think saying [we’re not dating] will work.”

“Like what?”

I tilted my head, not understanding what she was talking about. I look to Ryoko for help, but she holds her forehead as if she has a headache and shakes her head. Haruna is grinning, the boys are sobbing, and the other girls are giving me colorful glances.

Hm, am I the only one being left out?

I was puzzled,

“Um, Kobayakawa san, you were the one who performed on the day of the entrance exam, weren’t you !?”

One of the female students asked excitedly. She looked like a naive girl as she stared straight ahead with both eyes wide open.

What she was referring to was the guerrilla live performance I held on the university grounds to encourage Ari san. Not only Ari san but also other students had gathered that day, so she must have been one of them. So she is a freshman.

“Yes, but….”

“So Kanda san was the one singing with you, wasn’t she?”

“Yeah, that’s me.”

“I heard a rumor that you two are dating !?”
