Sitting on the bed, Kuroi was wiggling her legs. She had taken off both her shoes and socks, revealing her smooth, white legs. Her thighs were so bare that you could almost see inside her short skirt, but I still didn’t feel anything in particular.
Was it because she was my long-lost sister, or did I have some latent aversion to her?
It was utterly baffling, given that her legs possessed a beauty and allure that would be irresistible to any leg fetishist.
“Hmm.”
Kuroi crossed her legs, pouting her lips like a cat with a smug look on her face.
This right after the nurse left?
I sighed in exasperation.
“Are you okay?”
Her ankle was taped up. The pain seemed to have been temporary; by the time the nurse treated her, she was fully recovered. Right now, I was stuck chatting with Kuroi, who had decided to stay and rest during lunch break and had stopped me from leaving.
“You’re so cute when you try to act tough ♡”
“Yeah, yeah.”
I stretched my arms wide and turned my back on Kuroi.
“Where are you going?”
“Back to class.”
“Don’t you want to stay and talk a little longer?”
“I’ve got stuff I need to do.”
I have to finalize the details of the collaboration with Ichigo Daikyo.
The reason I ran into Kuroi and Asakura was because I was working in the library, where no one would notice me.
…Ugh. I should’ve just stayed home and done it quietly.
My usual range of movement is limited to my desk and the restroom, and the first time I stepped outside that area, this is what happened.
I couldn’t ignore my junior friend lying there, and even though I’d just been told not to get involved, I went and spoke to her anyway.
The day after that awkward silence, the day after I agreed to cut ties.
And yet, I went and spoke to her.
I don’t even want to imagine what Asakura must have thought. It’s so sad I feel like crying.
“You look like you’re about to cry. Is what you have to do really that unpleasant?”
“Hmm, well, I guess it is. But this is a different matter.”
“A different matter? I don’t really get it… but if you’re sad, I’ll comfort you~”
Kuroi called out to me with a smirk, holding out both hands.
Should I roll my eyes at her? No, it’s already been proven that won’t work. So then…
“Alright. I’ll take you up on that.”
“Huh?”
Perhaps my response caught him off guard; Kuroi’s eyes widened.
“So, I’m counting on you.”
“Wait, no, what? Huh?”
When I took a step closer, Kuroi closed her outstretched arms and backed away on the bed.
As I inched closer, Kuroi’s face grew redder and redder, and her gaze began to wander.
Placing one hand on the bed, Kuroi looked down and opened her arms slightly, like a kindergarten kid doing “attention.”
I couldn’t help but burst out laughing and turned toward the doorway, starting to walk away.
“You’re a newbie, so you’d better not try anything you’re not used to.”
“…H-huh!?”
Just as I heard hurried footsteps behind me, I felt a firm grip on my shoulder.
“Who said that!? What did you say!? Don’t lump me in with you, senpai!”
When I turned around, I saw Kuroi, her face bright red.
“You’re right. Sorry.”
“! That pisses me off!! You better remember this!!”
Her words were harsh.
I felt like I was somehow used to this vibe.
That must be why.
“I’ll forget, so try it now. Come on?”
I ended up acting like I was taking her as nothing but a “Ichigo Misfortune.”
“Guh, grrr…”
“Sorry. I shouldn’t have said that.”
Seeing Kuroi looking frustrated, I hurriedly apologized. This girl is Kuroi Amana. She’s not the wicked Strawberry Disaster.
“H-huh. As long as you get it! I’m going to tear you to shreds later anyway! For now, yeah, buy me a drink. Then I’ll put my anger aside for a bit!”
My expenses just went up for nothing…
“Ugh, fine. Let’s go to the vending machine.”
“Yes!!”
Feeling good about her victory, Kuroi eagerly got ready to leave the infirmary.
Just then.
“Huh?”
“What’s wrong?”
“The keychain I had on my phone is gone.”
Kuroi looked at the phone in her hand—only the strap remained.
“Should we go look for it?”
“Huh? …W-wait, don’t suddenly get all nice! I’ll catch a cold!”
With a face as red as if she’d actually caught a cold, Kuroi hurriedly left the infirmary.
“What about the keychain?”
“The keychain’s fine. I don’t have any sentimental attachment to it, and I was planning to replace it anyway. More importantly, let’s get some juice! Please spend the money!”
I followed Kuroi as she hurried along, saying, “Lunchtime is almost over.”
After being forced to buy the most expensive juice, I slumped my shoulders and returned to the classroom.
