Episode 13 – A World of Just the Two of Us

“…..Tokiwa kun looked like he was having fun with the girls.”

I was waiting ahead of time, expecting that it must be the sea at Akaitohama that he wants to shop to the fashion-loving girls of today. When I saw Tokiwa kun and a girl come there alone, Iwas burning myself with jealousy.

Why do men want to cheat?
I was about to cry, wondering if Tokiwa kun was no exception while there was me.
But he seemed to have changed his mind when he saw me, and sent the girl home first.

Tokiwa kun, you really love me after all, don’t you?
Fufu, I’ll forgive you just for today.
But there won’t be a next time.

“……The sea breeze feels good.”

The wind from the sea is pleasant and I’m enchanted as I watch the back of Tokiwa kun sitting alone on the beach in the dusk.

I like this slightly cold breeze.
There are no people at all today, and it feels like I’m back at the old Akaitohama.

I feel as if Tokiwa kun and I are the only two people left in the world.

That’s the happiest thing in the world.
I don’t need anyone else.
All the unnecessary people should just disappear.
The ones who only look at me with a perverted eye, the creepy people.
I really can’t stand people who only evaluate others based on their physical appearance.
Nobody understands my feelings.

But only Tokiwa kun understands me.
He helps me without any reward.
He saves me again and again.
He cares about me.

“….I wonder if he would be surprised if I hugged him from behind.”

I think about it as I take a step or two closer to him, but I can’t go any further.
It’s not because I’m afraid he won’t like me.
It’s because I don’t have confidence in myself either.
I know Tokiwa kun likes me because he doesn’t know everything about me right now, but the more he knows, the more he might hate me.
I’m afraid to get any closer.
But I don’t want to leave him.

“……Today too, I’ll make dinner first and wait for you.”

After a little twilight at the beach I decided to go back to my house.
On the way home, I got a call from Kaneko.

“Hello Kaneko? Yeah, I’ve already parted with her.”
“What a bore. I actually promised a date for the next time.”
“Really? That’s great, things are going well.”
“Yeah, I guess so. But it’s all thanks to you.”
“No, no, no. We just got separated on our own. But did you get the geography right?”
“Yes, the preliminary inspection was very effective. We’ll talk about it at school tomorrow.”
“Okay, okay. Good night for now.”

It seems that Kaneko is getting along well with Takaya san.
I was a little envious, but I was even more happy that my friend’s love life was going so well, as if it were my own.
Well, if I keep doing good things for others, it will eventually be done for me too…I guess.
I wonder if there’s anything I can do.

“I’m home.”

It was still light outside when I got back home, which was much earlier than I had planned.
Of course, my mother hadn’t come home either, but there was still some pre-cooked food left.

Today it was fried rice.

“She must have gone to the trouble of coming back once. Then why don’t you stay until I get back?”

Even though her workplace was not so far away, she had never gone out to cook dinner for her son before.
She was a manly woman who gave me an allowance and left me to do what he wanted with it, but the fact that she cooked for me every day made me think there was something going on.

I’ve been trying to talk to her when I see her, but we haven’t seen each other for the past few days.
Yesterday I was up late, but my mother was at a drinking party and was also late.

“Hm, good. But today’s is a little spicy.”

The spice is very effective.
I finished it while drinking water several times.

Of course, I was ready for a bath.

“Today is the day I should go shopping.”

The refrigerator was still not replenished.
So I decided to go shopping today, and after inquiring whether the supermarket that had been temporarily closed the other day was open, I headed there.

Apparently, there was a problem with the refrigeration system and they were working on it.
I heard that they were selling various items at a discount today as an apology, so I hurried to the supermarket.

Meat and vegetables were on special sale, and I went home with a plastic bag full of food in both hands.

After putting my purchases in the fridge, I was satisfied with the full lineup when the phone rang.

It was an unknown number.

“……Yes?”
“Ah, Sendai kun? It’s me, Miyama.”
“Ah, Miyama san? Thanks for today. What’s wrong?”
“I’m sorry for leaving you like that today. I got your contact information from Kaneko kun via Ricchan. I’m sorry for suddenly calling you.”
“I thought it was something else. You didn’t have to worry about it at all.”
“I knew you were going to say that. So, did you go on a date with Hyori senpai after that?”
“Date? No, no, I don’t know her or anything.”
“Eh, are you serious?”
“That’s what I’ve been trying to say.”
“Hmmm. But since she’s a senior, I think it’s obvious that you know each other.”
“I guess she gave off that kind of atmosphere. She seems to live nearby, but that’s about it. I only occasionally see her on the train or on the way home.”
“So you fell in love with her while you were seeing her.”

“I’ll call you again when I’m free. See you later.”

After Miyama san hung up the phone, I was a little bit excited again.
It was my first time to call a girl.
We may still be less than friends, but I thought that if I kept on building on this, maybe I would be able to have a future with her.

Thinking of that makes me look forward to tomorrow.
We’ll talk at school, we’ll have lunch together, and eventually……

Yeah, I’m fulfilled.
I think I’ll take a bath then go to bed quickly today, and go to school a little early tomorrow.
