For some reason, the scent of miso soup was wafting through the literature club room.

There was a kettle in the room, and Seika had used instant miso soup.

Houtarou took a big bite of the rice ball Seika had made.

As he chewed, the rice crumbled gently.

(This is totally different from convenience store rice balls…)

To put it bluntly, it’s just a lump of rice.

Rice balls should taste the same no matter how you make them.

But he could clearly tell that Seika’s rice ball was delicious.

It was definitely not just a cold lump of rice.

Just the right amount of saltiness. Crispy nori. And it was soft.

“Why is this so delicious? Is there some secret to it?”

Houtarou was surprised by his own words.

He had never once asked anyone for cooking tips.

“Well, of course, uh…”

“Uh?”

Seika’s face turned bright red.

…Houtarou thought she was probably going to say something like “love” or something along those lines.

 Seika’s face was bright red.

She was probably trying to avoid such an explicit expression of affection.

It was the kind of shyness that comes from knowing your feelings are being conveyed to the other person.

But it wasn’t just Houtarou—it was obvious to everyone there that she liked him.

He could understand why she’d be shy, but…

“Guts! It’s packed full of guts!”

…It was a rather awkward response. Neither joyful nor grateful.

It lacked any sense of humor.

In fact, Miyuki let out a deep sigh, looking exasperated.

On the other hand, only Houtarou was laughing cheerfully.

“I see. So it tastes good because it’s packed with guts, huh?”

…Of course, that couldn’t possibly be the case.

But she had put her heart into making the bento for me.

That much came across, and that was enough.

“Thank you.”

“Heheh, you’re welcome!”
