Renka started acting strange, and then Suzukita-san confessed to me.

My mind was a complete mess… yet even amidst all that, daily life naturally carried on.

Even after that, Renka still barged into my house every weekday morning to make breakfast.

Each time, I’d find myself mesmerized by her apron-clad figure, and I was constantly flustered by her uncharacteristically close demeanor.

One morning during breakfast, I asked her why she went to such lengths for me.

Then, her white, delicate cheeks flushed faintly, and she gave me a somewhat complicated smile.

[Because I wanted you to be happy, Akito. …Was it bothering you?]

What did I say back then?

The only thing I remember clearly is being captivated for a while by her bashful gesture.

Suzukita-san—the day after that confession, she was her usual self.

We ate lunch together, connected calls after school to play Enfil. Her sun-like bright smile was still there, and her friendly attitude toward me remained unchanged. …She was so perfectly normal, it made me wonder if I was the only one even aware of that confession.

Just one thing bothered me, though.

It felt like… the physical contact from Suzukita-san had increased abnormally.

She’d suddenly hug me from behind, saying things like “Ayatacchi~!” During lunch breaks heading to the cafeteria, she’d cling tightly to my arm. When I had a grain of rice on my cheek, she’d scoop it up with her fingertip and lick it off.

…Maybe it was just coincidence. For a gal like Suzukita-san, this level of closeness might be normal.

I didn’t know the answer, but—one thing was certain: my heart was constantly pounding.

Amidst all this, the final exam period arrived.

Sena invited us all to a study session. There, Renka kindly and patiently explained the parts I didn’t understand. …I still remember how close we were then. And every time I do, I’m left stewing in frustration all alone.

Anyway. Thanks to Renka, my grades shot up to the 40s.

I honestly felt happy. Ranking in the 40s at this prestigious school was beyond excellent for me. It was the best I’d scored since cramming like crazy right before graduating middle school.

Meanwhile, Renka achieved an amazing third place,

“Ehehe. It’s because I was with Akito, so I could push myself harder than usual,”

…she said with a smile. Seriously, is she an angel? I genuinely thought.

By the way, Yuri was first in the grade again this time. But he was only three points ahead of the second-place student. Seeing him smugly declare, “Another landslide victory for me,” I realized once more just how incredible he is. Especially mentally.

And then, today.

I was celebrating the end of the final exams with Renka and the other three.

The place was our usual family restaurant. After getting hyped up over some silly talk, Renka suddenly said this.

“Hey, Akito…”

She looked up at me, her eyes fixed on my face.

Renka ‘s lips slowly formed the words.

“Well… you know? We were talking the other day… about summer vacation. How about we go visit Yuri’s dad’s hotel for the first time in ages…?”

Yuri’s last name is Hasegawa. That’s right—Yuri’s father is the chairman of that mega-huge hotel group.

When we were kids, we were often invited to that hotel because we were childhood friends. …Just thinking back a little brings back so many happy memories.

“Well, I’d go if I could. But summer break gets crazy busy, right? Would booking now even work?”

“Hmph, relax. I’ll pull some serious strings with my parents for us.”

“Oh… okay then. But… isn’t everyone busy with club activities? Especially Sena and Hideki—aren’t the Inter-High preliminaries coming up soon?”

“Don’t worry about me, Akito. Honestly, doing club every day is making me sick of it and my grades are dropping!”

“Well, I kinda want to go to club, honestly. But it’s fine, Akito-kun! We’ve already sorted out our schedules! All we need is for you to be free, right? Come on, let’s all go together?”

Yuri said it proudly, Hideki with absolute confidence, and Sena pushed forward insistently.

Then, as if to deliver the final blow, Renka, sitting next to me, tugged sharply on my sleeve.

“Akito. I… I got a new swimsuit for you. So… no?”

I fantasize—the hotel in question has an enormous pool attached.

Renka walks along the poolside path in her swimsuit. Droplets of water glisten and fall from her fair, beautiful skin. Her slender yet exquisite figure. A slightly bashful, angelic smile that rivals any celestial being.

…Alright, let’s go. I agreed without hesitation.

After parting ways with Renka and the others, I returned to my room.

Finished getting ready for bed, I lay down on the mattress and closed my eyes.

And… suddenly, Suzukita-san’s face flashed behind my eyelids.

What would she—Suzukita-san—think when she found out I’d gone on an overnight trip with Renka and the others?

Would I end up hurting the feelings of the girl who’d mustered the courage to confess to me?

(…No, this should be fine. Because Suzukita-san—)

That day.

I suddenly recalled the moment she confessed to me.

[Because—Ayata-chi. You like Renren, right?]

Yes. That’s right.

I still—like Renka.

And Suzukita-san confessed to me knowing that. So, me going out to play with her and the others… shouldn’t be a problem, I think.

(――――But is that really true…?)

Expectation and anxiety swirled endlessly. Suzukita-san’s sad face flashed through my mind.

Well… for now, I’ll just focus on trying to sleep.

After all, summer vacation starts tomorrow.

Since it’s such a rare chance, I want to enjoy it to the fullest. With that wish in mind, I closed my eyes tightly.
