We then left the reception room and followed the guidance of the staff, receiving glances inside the guild.
It seemed that we adventurers were to wait near the city walls in anticipation of the arrival of an army of demons in the not-too-distant future. The numerous guardians were to take the main role in dealing with the demons, while adventurers were to join the battle as support.
All adventurers of iron class and above were to leave the guild and gather at a temporary camp set up by the gate in Bren.
Those of us who had received special orders from Gillian san would be stationed in the corner, interacting with other adventurers who had been chosen to be members of the team that would rescue me in the event of an emergency. Despite Gillian san’s words, many of them were not convinced that I, a young man, was the main man, but there was no time to continue arguing.
–The scouts reported that the demons were finally approaching Bren, and the staff member who had received the report from the scouts told the adventurers.
With the adventurers, who were still not convinced, moving away, I listened to the voices of the guardians outside the gate.
“It looks like they’re here. As the officials said, it is the job of the Bren guardians for the time being.”
“Yes. But when the guardians are worn out, it’s our turn to come in, so be ready.”
We all nodded in agreement to Anri’s words.
The scouts’ findings and Gillian san’s experience had shown us that the head of the pack, the demon, was slouching in the back and never came forward. Therefore, we needed to reduce their numbers and prepare for the demons that would soon appear.
As the adventurers were adjusting the magic in their bodies and checking their weapons, we prepared ourselves to be ready to go out at any moment. I decided to buy a sword soon, as this is a hassle every time I make a weapon with magic in advance.
Then we sharpen our awareness against the backdrop of the sounds of shouting and fighting that we begin to hear from outside.
–The sun was setting, and the night was drawing in. After receiving a report, a staff member came out in front of us and announced to all the adventurers gathered here
“–It’s your turn, everyone. Follow the instructions of your assigned commander and exterminate the demons!”
The closed gates of the town opened, and the guardians there motioned for us to hurry.
We adventurers split into groups and marched out of the city, our will to fight surging.
–Once outside, we saw the magic of flares glowing in the darkness and the fierce battle unfolding beneath them.
A large number of guardians and even larger numbers of demons were intermingling under the artificial light. The voices of the guardians, the cries of the monsters, the clash of weapons and fangs. Here and there, magic is flying, swords are being wielded, and blood is spattering from each other.
I take my eyes off the battle already underway and turn to the leader of the group of several parties, including the “Sword of Wheat”.
“—Some of the guardians are down due to injuries. We’re going to fill in. We’ll continue fighting until the enemy boss comes out, and then we’ll let the ‘dragon slayer’ over there….. do something about it.”
The organizer – the copper-grade adventurer guy who had just prodded me – pointed at me and said sarcastically. His party members and the rest of the people who support me in the demon battle all have similarly dissatisfied expressions on their faces.
I was forced to follow Gillian san’s instructions, but it seems that many of them are questioning my competence and are not satisfied with their own roles.
While smiling at Anri, who stared back at them, and at Ur and Rietta, who looked uncomfortable, I opened my mouth.
“I’m sorry, but I’m going to need your support. I’ll make sure I’ll accomplish it.”
The group leader sniffs and looks around at everyone in the group. He then took a quick breath and shouted in a loud voice, as if to change his mind.
“–Follow me and move forward! As soon as we reach the demon, we will maintain a certain distance from it and start defeating it!”
“Ouu!”
The adventurers followed the leader as he ran off. We followed, moving toward the group of demons.
Other groups of adventurers were also heading toward the demons one after another, and we could see them fighting alongside the guardians.
–And then we finally reach the demons. After spreading out a bit, we started fighting.
“Ha!”
I swung the sword I had created with a physical strength that was not yet at full strength. I thrust the sword into the chest of a huge pig-faced body – an orc – that was right in front of me, raising its arms.
I remove my gaze from the screaming orc, which falls over, and deal with the next demon that approaches.
The number of demons is large, and we reduce the number of opponents to those of the “Sword of Wheat,” who are fighting nearby. In doing so, my companions were also able to fight dangerously in coordination with each other;
While increasing the number of corpses scattered around my feet, I swung my sword one after another and fired my magic. All of them were tough monsters from the valley, but I had gotten used to them in the past three months and mass-produced their corpses.
As soon as we had reduced the number of monsters around us and had a certain amount of time to spare, we called out to each other.
“Everyone, are you hurt?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. But I knew these guys were tough. ……!”
“They’re strong, too, and they don’t get completely distracted by Anri’s loud attention.”
“It can also dodge magic. It’s mind-boggling that there are still many like this…”
While listening to the words of the three of them, I cut down the monkey demons that came close to me in one hand.
At the same time, I looked around to see what the adventurers in my group were doing.
And then they came into view…….
“-Ugh…Ah, hey, that’s where it went! Be careful–Guwah!?”
“Leader! Are you okay—Ugh!”
The screams now are the adventurers who were sarcastic to us earlier.
He seems to be a mid-level adventurer with a lot of experience as he is in charge of the group, but it seems like he still has no leeway against this monster.
Even now, he is surrounded by goblins and kobolds and is being beaten to a pulp. He seems to be holding his own with his sword, but it looks like he may not be able to hold out much longer.
The other members of the group seem to be trying to help, but they are being attacked by demons and are unable to do so.
I call out to my friends who are doing the same thing, while fighting off the demons that keep coming at me sporadically.
“Anri! It looks like the other adventurers are having a hard time. I think we should go help them.”
After blowing away the demon with her axe, Anri turns her head toward them. The obvious disgusted look on her faces is probably a response to their attitude. However, she is not one to be swayed by personal feelings in the face of a crisis in the city.
Anri lets out a sigh and immediately shows her face as the party leader.
“I’ll deal with the demons that are coming toward us, while I’ll cover for the other side. Let’s show those sarcastic bastards what we can do.”
“–Yes.”
We nodded to Anri and began to move in unison. Our goal is to get to our fellow adventurers who are struggling.
We must all work together to overcome this hardship.
