When Satoru took his own life, he did not think about the afterlife in any way. All that was on his mind was the relief that he would no longer be a burden to anyone and the joy of being free from painful emotions.
However, the next time he regained consciousness, it was in the world of “Lian’s,” where he had talked a lot with Yuto before his death.
He did not know why he had come here. However, he somehow understood that he was a nobody, a mob, and that he was not involved in the story. He had borrowed the novel version of “Lian’s” from Yuto and read it, so he knew that Torsa, the person he is now, was not even mentioned by name.
At first, Satoru despaired that he had been reincarnated with his memories as Satoru. At first, he was in pain and felt that he could not escape from the painful feelings even if he died. But then he realized that the pain had quietly melted away.
It was a peaceful world. When he was Satoru, his family was strict and he was forced to study all the time, but now there were no parents who told him to study. Of course there were no games in this world, but he could read as many stories as he liked.
Of course, this is the world of “Lian’s”. So, all of a sudden, the world went wrong due to the miasma. Naturally, Torsa was not surprised. The protagonists would do something about it. That’s what he thought. In fact, the thought of being able to experience the story of “Lian’s” so close to home made him excited.
At first, he felt something strange when Sol, the main character, did not come to the town. Originally, Sol and his friends were supposed to stop by the city during the purification of the miasma.
Torsa knew Sol’s story. Knowingly, when the story began, a desire arose in Torsa.
If only he could be friends with Sol.
But Sol never came to town, and the miasma was purged. Maybe God changed it because he wanted to be involved in the story. He thought vaguely like that.
Then he heard that the Demon King had also been successfully defeated, and he knew that the story had come to an end. Of course, he knew that there was a story after that. Sol came back to the city when the story after the ending had probably begun.
Torsa gathered his courage and spoke to Sol, hoping that this time he would be able to tell him the story. But Sol was completely different from the Sol she knew.
Of course, the way he spoke was the same, and he had a cheerful side, but the Sol in the story was not the same as the Sol he knew.
In his previous life, Satoru felt close to Sol, who was unable to say no or even to say something mean, because he felt he was just like him.
In this world, however, Sol was not at all easily influenced. He clearly rejects what he doesn’t like and doesn’t hesitate to say what he thinks. He looked more like Yuuto, who was his friend in his previous life.
Satoru recalls the day he approached Yuto, even now that he has become a torsa. Unlike himself, who had no choice but to be influenced by others, he was in his own world, away from others, not interested in exchanges that made fun of others. People around him treated Yuto as a strange guy, but Satoru wanted to talk to him once, because he had something that he did not have.
He might be rejected. Despite this thought, Satoru gathered up his courage and approached Yuto, who surprisingly smiled back at him.
Satoru enjoyed spending time with Yuto. He was always the one being teased and had to smile back, but Yuto never did that. It was really comfortable to spend time with a friend who treated him as an equal.
And as he spent time with Yuto, he thought that he might be able to express his feelings properly.
[Don’t do that! I really don’t like it when you say things like that!]
As soon as he said that, the color of the eyes of his classmates, who had been teasing him, changed. What used to be just words became laughing as they hid things and sometimes kicked him as hard as they could on his back.
It was Yuto who put a stop to it.
[Stop it! He doesn’t like it!]
Saying this, Yuto seriously glared at his classmates, and the object of their laughter soon turned to Yuto.
Having been in the position of being teased all his life, he immediately understood why. A being who gets really angry, who talks back, but has no power, is nothing more than a fun toy for a being with power. The behavior of his classmates gradually escalated as Yuuto seriously confronted them.
One day after school, Yuto was desperately cooling his red, swollen arm, probably from a beating. He was more worried that his parents would find out than that he was being beaten, because he would be appalled and scolded if they found out.
[Sorry, it’s my fault. ……]
When Satoru said this, Yuto laughed at what he was saying.
[Satoru is an important friend, right? Of course I want to protect him because he’s my friend! Oh, they didn’t do anything to you without my knowledge, did they?]
Satoru nodded at Yuto’s words, and Yuto smiled happily. Satoru almost cried when he saw Yuto’s smile.
However, Satoru gradually began to avoid Yuto, not wanting to involve him. He went to his homeroom teacher to see if there was anything she could do, but she would have none of it.
There was nothing he could do. Yuto was trying to protect him by defending him, but he couldn’t even do that. Just like before, when his classmates made fun of him and laughed at him, he just laughed like he was in trouble. Even when he tried to say something, he was too scared to speak.
That is how he hated himself. Remorse came over him every day, wondering why he couldn’t help his friend who had helped him, and wondering if this would not have happened if he had never become his friend in the first place.
In bed at night, he apologized to Yuto as he did every day. But nothing changed, and only more pain piled up. Even being alive became painful. He blamed himself over and over again, believing that his own existence was no good, and that his existence had made one person unhappy.
Just when he thought that there was something he could do, a news report appeared on TV. It was about a high school student who committed suicide due to bullying. In that news, the perpetrator was blamed.
Ah, he felt that a way had opened up for me. After that, there was no hesitation. He wrote a letter of apology to Yuto and a letter describing what had been done to him by his tormentors, and he took his life in a way that would ensure his death.
But when he became a torsa and was once again held hostage to lure Sol, he knew he had done it all over again. Because of him, his friend would be in danger again. He could not allow that to happen. But there was nothing he could do.
The word “lians” came out of Sol’s mouth. At that moment, he realized that Sol was also a reincarnated person and that his character was a little different from the story. He did not want to ruin the story by his own fault, so he shouted desperately.
Sol responded to these words
[Torsa is a dear friend of mine! Of course I want to protect him because he’s my friend!]
The moment he said those words, he felt as if the last piece of the puzzle had been put into place. Not knowing why he is in this world. But Torsa was convinced that what was inside Sol was Yuto. He knew that he had put Yuto in danger twice.
He then fainted, and when he woke up, Celes came to see him.
[It’s your fault …….]
Celes’ eyes were shaking with anxiety and fear as she blamed Torsa, and he realized that Yuto was sacrificing himself to protect someone else in this world as well. And he knew that, in the eyes of others, the existence of Torsa had become a danger to Yuto.
So, he distanced himself from Sol for a reason. This would surely allow Torsa to return to being a mere mob. That was good. It was enough.
Sol laughed and said he was happy. He did not want to destroy the world. So, no matter how much Sol laughed, he could not help but think that it was all for the best.
