…Nothing matters anymore. I can’t even cry anymore.

“What’s wrong? Hey.”

“Just… stuff happened…”

I just stared at the ceiling. No, staring was all I could do. I couldn’t move, even though I wasn’t actually experiencing sleep paralysis. It was a pretty damn sad situation, though.

“Aren’t you going to comfort me?”

“I already said I wouldn’t.”

What even are sunglasses? What purpose do they serve? When is the sun ever blinding? I’m not an outfielder, so I never get a chance to look at the sky. They don’t even have prescription lenses—they’re just glasses painted black. So why not just wear regular glasses? You don’t need sunglasses.

I was so embarrassed to even own them that I threw them in a trash can on the way back to the vacation house. Just owning them brings bad luck.

“What’s wrong?”

“Senpai… Am I ugly?”

“Eh… I think you’re kinder than anyone else, Shota-kun. That’s what makes you attractive, so it’s okay.”

She didn’t deny it. I heard somewhere that when complimenting a guy with no distinguishing features, kindness is the only thing you can praise.

So basically, I’m an ugly guy with no distinguishing features.

Good thing my tears had already dried up.

“I was actually pretty good-looking before high school though…”

I heard it clearly from Saotome, even though it was a small voice.

Didn’t I turn ugly the moment Moriguchi Hiroto entered?! I guess I actually cared about my appearance before I joined.

They say looks are 90% of a person. If looks are 90%, then there’s no way I could ever pick up girls without caring about my appearance.

But I got the wrong idea. I’m popular in class, and even though the heroines don’t like me, I can talk to them normally, so I thought maybe…

They were just being nice to me… I need to live my life thanking everyone from now on.

“Why are you so down in the first place?”

“…Because I failed at picking someone up.”

“”Haaa~””

Fumi-senpai and Hisada-chan, who I’d heard somewhere before, sighed simultaneously.

I didn’t want to say it either, but I mustered up the courage to tell you, so cut the sighing. I’m already hurt enough; please don’t rub salt in the wound.

“So, nobody gave you the time of day?”

“Guh!”

Don’t make it worse!

“…You actually thought you could pull it off, Mizuno?”

“Gah!”

Don’t add to the wounds!

“I knew it was impossible from the start.”

“Bam!”

Don’t rub salt in the wound!

Also, if it’s impossible, just stop me! If you’d stopped me back then, even if it meant punching me, I might not be feeling this way now.

“I did say ‘go have fun,’ but you went out to pick up girls.”

“I’m a playboy, so picking up girls is just part of the fun.”

Well, I did say it was okay to go have fun, so it’s surprising you went out to pick up girls. But I’m a self-proclaimed playboy, so picking up girls just becomes part of the fun.

“…Stop trying to look cool. You failed anyway.”

Don’t say that…

Hisada-chan’s tone feels sharper today. She usually talks down to me more, but today I sense a hint of irritation.

We’ve gotten close enough that I notice even such small changes. Hisada-chan probably doesn’t realize it herself…

“Why don’t you go to sleep? You’ve been up all night, right?”

Come to think of it, I haven’t slept. Since yesterday morning, so I’ve easily been awake over 30 hours.

“I will.”

Staying awake just makes me remember all the unpleasant stuff. Might as well sleep.

“I’ll be off then.”

I trudge over to the empty tatami room and start getting ready for bed. How many rooms does this villa even have? Why did I try to sleep in the living room yesterday?

“Ah, is Sarasa-chan okay?”

“She’s almost better now. Should be fine by tomorrow.”

“That’s good~”

Her recovery power is amazing. Well, she might not go in the ocean, but she could probably manage watermelon smashing on the sandy beach.

…The ocean?

…Speaking of the ocean… swimsuits.

Hey hey hey hey! That’s it! Isn’t the whole point of my training camp to see the heroines in swimsuits? So why am I getting so frustrated just because I failed at picking someone up? It’s way too early to be frustrated!

What even is hitting on girls? Is it something to be proud of if you succeed? Talking to random women is super weird. If I had succeeded, I’d have been totally screwed.

I joined this club even if it meant changing the original story. I’m definitely getting to see those swimsuits!

I know they’re not swimsuits meant for me. I know that, but swimsuits are also my dream. So just seeing them is enough. Even if I can’t grab them, just seeing them makes me happy.

And this is a gal game. Beach, swimsuits, gal game. …You get it now, right? Lucky pervy incidents are definitely going to happen. Sorry about that, but it’s a given.

Of course, I won’t get that kind of luck myself, but just seeing it makes me lucky enough.

It’s about time I got rewarded, right? I’ve worked so hard, so seeing some lucky pervert moments won’t bring bad karma, right?

No way. My fantasies are exploding, and I can’t sleep now. Feels like I was lying when I said I was sleepy earlier.

Does sleeping this early at camp even make sense? No, right? I still wanna hang out with everyone!

“Morning!”

Of course, everyone just stares blankly.

“What’s up?”

“It’s too early to sleep during a training camp!”

“You were so down earlier, what happened?”

“Just took a little break and got my energy back.”

Guys who were down suddenly getting energetic must be scary for everyone else.

“…Your mood swings are way too extreme.”

“I wish you’d just say I’m back to my usual self.”

“…Annoying.”

Hmph. The old me would’ve been hurt by that comment. But! That kind of lame diss doesn’t even scratch the surface for me now.

“Alright then! Let’s play Big Rich until everyone passes out!”

“Oh, sounds good!”

Thanks, Saotome. Knew you’d be down for my sleep-over Millionaire game.

Playing until you pass out is the real thrill of camp, right? …Even though I’ve only been to two camps. This one and the orientation camp.

“What are you doing?”

“Sarasa-chan”

A slightly thinner Niiro emerged from the room.

“Is your fever okay?”

“Yes. The fever’s gone. Just feeling a bit sluggish.”

“That’s good.”

“Hey, wanna play Sleep-Off Millionaire with us?”

She’s probably too sluggish to play, but it’d be mean to leave her out, so I’ll invite her anyway.

“I wanna play. I’m bored of just sleeping.”

Oh, she’s in.

“Just don’t push yourself too hard.”

“Okay.”

“You were sleeping until just now, so you’re gonna be a tough opponent.”

“What about the rules? There are tons of local rules.”

“Let’s play while we go over the rules.”

“Yeah, sounds good.”

And so, the curtain rose on our game of Fall Asleep Millionaire.

“Hm?”

Seems I fell asleep at some point.

“Haaaaa…”

I’d been sleeping face-down on the desk, so I stretched out first.

Everyone else was still sleeping face-down on the desks. Oh, only Hisada-chan had moved to the sofa to sleep.

Was it okay for Niiro to do this when she’d just gotten over a fever? But she said she was tired, yet she played Tycoon until she passed out. She must’ve been having a blast.

So, who ended up surviving till the end? I dropped out right after Fumi-chan, so I don’t know the outcome.

Zzz

Huh? Who? The AC’s on, so why’d someone turn on the fan?

Wait? But… was there even a fan in this villa? …I’m pretty sure there wasn’t.

Splash

So what’s that sound then?

…I have a bad feeling about this. Please, let it be a lie.

I forced my trembling hands steady and cautiously pulled back the curtain.

Splash

Outside the window, a relentless downpour of raindrops fell, making a loud sound.
