Today I’m supposed to hang out with my friend Hayato.
Since we hadn’t actually decided where to go or what to do yesterday, we ended up contacting each other first thing this morning.
“What should we do today?”
“Let’s go to a family restaurant!”
“Okay.”
Even though it’s been a while, it feels like we’re always hanging out together—maybe that’s just what friends do?
So, I changed into a casual outfit—a hoodie and jeans—and headed to a family restaurant near my place.
Hayato seemed to be on his way too,
‘I’m at A Station now’
‘Just turned right at the traffic light in the second block’
“Got it”
[Just turned left at the traffic light in the second block.]
“I see.”
[Just got back to the traffic light in the second block.]
“Are you lost or something?!!”
“Nah, just kidding. I’m right behind you.”
“Whoa, you scared me!”
I spun around in a panic to find a tall, handsome guy standing there.
“Don’t scare me like that!! And if you were here, why didn’t you come say hi sooner?”
“Sorry, sorry. I thought it might be funny.”
“Funny? You almost gave me a heart attack!!”
Anger and fear welled up at the handsome guy’s loud, booming laughter, but then I remembered—this is exactly how he was.
“Long time no see, Hayato.”
“Yeah, long time. You haven’t changed a bit, Tenrai.”
“You haven’t changed either. Seriously, what’s up? Haven’t heard from you in ages.”
“Come on, let’s talk about that over food. My treat today.”
“Seriously? Lucky me.”
I entered the restaurant with Hayato.
Let me explain about Hayato here.
Hayato is a friend from middle school.
We went to the same high school.
He’s the kind of handsome guy who embodies the phrase “handsome as can be,” and I’m honestly baffled why he even talks to me.
Girls confessed to him all the time, and I’d often see people hitting on him in public.
Even inside the restaurant, I could feel the stares from the staff and other customers fixed on Hayato.
But, for a certain reason, he’s a bit of a tragic handsome guy.
Seriously.
“I think I’ll have the carbonara.”
“I had pasta yesterday, so I’m good on noodles… Maybe I’ll get pancakes.”
“Still got a sweet tooth, huh?”
“Shut up! I don’t have the guts to come to a family restaurant alone!”

Family restaurants are a huge hurdle for loners, dammit!
Besides, once you become a working adult, you stop wanting to go to family restaurants anyway.
After we each finished ordering, I asked about something that had been on my mind.
“Hey, it’s been a while since you contacted me, huh?”
“Yeah, I guess so. I haven’t been in touch with anyone, so it really has been a long time.”
Something about his tone felt off.
“So, what have you been up to?”
“I got arrested.”
“I knew it!!!!”
“No, wait! I didn’t do anything wrong!”
“That’s what all criminals say!”
“I was just patrolling because there was a report of a suspicious person at the middle school I visit.”
“You’re the criminal!”
“Dammit, can’t you even understand me…”
“I don’t want to know about your freaking kinks!”
This is the biggest reason he’s called the “unfortunate handsome guy.”
He’s a lolicon.
And a hopeless one at that.
Well, if he got arrested, no wonder we haven’t heard from him.
“Anyway, how’s your idol fandom going?”
“I don’t think ‘anyway’ covers this situation… But yeah, it’s going well. Got some hate comments though.”

Listening to this guy talk about his kinks makes the stares from others hurt in a different way, and above all, it never ends. So yesterday, I told him about the day before yesterday.
