While Toka was in the bathroom, I called Yuzuha over. She was sitting by the sofa, nibbling on a Pocky stick while fiddling with her phone.

Yuzuha called out to Toka, who’d just come back from the bathroom!

Toka grabbed my hand and started pulling me toward my room upstairs. It’s my place, but she’s already lost all sense of restraint…
As soon as we reached my room, Toka plopped down onto the bed where I usually sleep.
“Ryo-kun, I’ve got an idea.”
“An idea?”
“Let’s play the Pocky game.”
“Why!?”
“Because I wanted to try it. I saw comedians doing it on a show once.”
Toka put a Pocky stick in her mouth. The chocolate tip swayed back and forth at me, as if saying, “Come on, come on!”
“moou, why won’t you do it!”
“I don’t really know the rules of the Pocky game…”
“I don’t really know either, but I think whoever lets go first loses. Or maybe whoever gets the longer piece when it breaks wins.”
“You’re trying to do it even though you don’t know the rules.”
“Ryo-kun, you’re so nitpicky. I’m even letting you have the tastier piece.”

“I’m confident I won’t lose.”
So… this is why she came to my room? She wanted to do this. Honestly, doing this in front of my parents and sister would be super awkward. At least Toka seems to have developed her own way of being considerate. Her own way, that is.
“Scared of losing?”

“Hehehe, I won’t let you do whatever you want forever, Ryo-kun.”
“Lately, it’s been you doing whatever you want, Toka!”
Suddenly, she’s provoking me. This feels like something adults do at a mixer, though.
“Loser gets a penalty game.”
“What?!”
“The loser has to do one thing the winner says.”
Toka chuckled softly and took another Pocky stick in her mouth. The chocolate tip slowly, almost deliberately, pointed towards me. What’s with that expression? Like 80% provocation, 20% embarrassment?
“I won’t lose.”
I gently took the other end of the Pocky into my mouth.
I’ll win this game and find out what Toka wants. Not sure if it counts as a forfeit game though.
Toka’s expression wavered for just an instant. She was provoking me, yet she seemed a little tense. But her eyes said she wouldn’t back down.
“Mmmph!”
The distance between us closed a little. Our breaths mingled. Our eyes locked, and it felt incredibly embarrassing. But if I looked away from Toka, it felt like I’d lose overwhelmingly…!
“Mmmph!”
Toka took another bite.
Our faces drew closer again. We were so close now, I could almost feel her breath on my nose.
…If we pull away now, I lose. So we have to break it off somewhere to decide the winner.
“Chomp!”
While I hesitated, Toka took a huge bite. No, huge doesn’t even cover it. The distance was completely zero now. Her face came rushing straight toward mine—
“Mmmph!?”

Toka threw her full weight into it, and I stumbled backward without thinking.
