The classroom is divided by partitions, and in the back, the boys and girls who are not playing the roles of maids are working.

Our class is similar, so it’s kind of cute.

But is it just my imagination that I can hear the sound of people rushing around?

“There aren’t that many of you, are there?”

“The maids work in shifts of five. Today we’re switching at lunchtime, so I’ll be free all afternoon !”

“But it looks like there are only four people wearing maid uniforms.”

“Ah…”

I asked because the numbers didn’t add up, but the answer became clear immediately.

The angry voices coming from behind the partition were familiar to me.

[I told you ! I said milk !]

[Eh? But I put it in !]

[That’s condensed milk for toppings ! I’m talking about milk for coffee !]

Hearing the voice of what I assume to be my childhood friend, I couldn’t help but smile wryly.

What is he doing?

The tone didn’t fit the sweet atmosphere, and the customers were starting to back away.

However, regardless of what we were thinking, Kako’s anger didn’t subside, and the shouting continued.

[Enough ! I’ll do it ! You’re really useless !]

[I’m sorry~]

[Shut up, you useless person ! Don’t you ever do housework? I can’t believe it.]

[You’ve never had experience as a maid, have you? That’s hilarious.]

[Ugh ! Nishiho…you better remember this.]

It seems the person she was arguing with was Nishiho Mika.

The intensity of the argument made both me, my childhood friend, and Mika’s friend Reisa feel awkward.

Why do I have to worry about the ugly behavior of someone I know at a time like this?

She’s been focusing on her studies lately and we haven’t had much contact, so I thought she might have changed her ways a bit, but she’s still the same old childhood friend.

The word “growth” doesn’t seem to exist in her dictionary.

Also, I thought you were the same when it came to not doing housework.

As far as I remember, my childhood friend had no housekeeping skills at all.

I can’t even imagine her having a diligent side.

“…She’s so rude.”

‘…She’s so insincere.”

The two of us muttered to ourselves and sighed in unison.

That aside, I looked at Nagisa, who was working.

It seems there’s already a line in the hallway, and Takagi, who’s standing outside, looks miserable.

It seems most of them are there for Nagisa, which is no surprise given her popularity.

Some people are even peeking through the frosted glass windows in the hallway to catch a glimpse of the school’s most popular beauty in her maid outfit.

Since there’s no other opportunity to talk to her or see her like this, maybe the boys who don’t usually interact with her are all coming to see her.

It seems like there are a lot of upperclassmen.

Sipping the tea I ordered earlier, I can’t help but think.

Even though we’re together every day, Nagisa’s popularity is real.

And I’m sure I’ll feel the same way about Reisa this afternoon.

I can predict that the same phenomenon will occur in my class.

Even though they’re my friends, they live in a different world than I do.

Somehow, they feel like distant beings.

“Lucky ! I came here for Nagisa chan, but Reisa chan is here too !”

One of the new male group members says, and Reisa lets out a wry smile.

Even popular people seem to have it tough when you see them like this.

“Ugh, I’m sorry.”

“What for?”

“No, it’s just that we stand out when we’re together.”

“We hang out together at the cafeteria during lunch break, so it’s nothing new.”

“But we’re alone now. It’s like a date, don’tcha think?”

I realized what she meant.

With Nagisa away serving customers, from the outside it might look like Reisa and I were on a cultural festival date.

I felt embarrassed and turned my face away.

“What’s wrong? Are you blushing?”

“Well…yeah. It’s not like it’s anything new, but now that I think about it…”

“Eh?”

“You said it yourself, so what’s with that reaction?”

Well, I’m a guy too.

There’s no way I wouldn’t be embarrassed being with such a cute girl.

Being called a date made me realize it, but I’d been feeling a bit flustered since earlier.

“Being with Reisa is still a bit awkward for me.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Why are you apologizing?”

“Well, it’s just…..I don’t know.”

One reason I’m not used to it is because I’m regularly teased or mocked by others.

Or rather, I just don’t have any tolerance for girls.

I’ve only ever talked to Kashi and a few others, and of course, I’ve never had any romantic involvement with anyone.

If I suddenly met two girls and was able to build a close relationship with them without any hesitation, I’d be a genius.

I don’t have that kind of talent.

“Hey, Tsukushi, you’re always so abrupt, aren’t you?”

“No, no, I’ve never gotten used to Reisa’s cuteness, so it’s not sudden.”

“That’s not what I’m talking about ! Well, that’s the thing, though…”

Reisa lowered her voice and took a sip of tea.

That’s when I noticed that Reisa was wearing makeup today.

Her face looked a little different than usual.

“You’re wearing makeup, aren’t you?”

“Hmph, you’re still not getting it. I wear it every day.”

“Really?”

“It’s just a natural look, though. I guess you couldn’t tell.”

“S-sorry.”

“Haha, we’re always apologizing, aren’t we?”

As we were talking like that, the commotion seemed to have died down, and I made eye contact with the fifth maid who had come out from the back.

“…Welcome back~”

This class seems to strictly enforce following the manual, as Kako said that with narrowed eyes.

Her face wasn’t exactly welcoming, but she was at least maintaining her maid’s composure.

She then went to bring coffee to the other customers.

Still, she didn’t say anything rude, so maybe that was a decent reaction for her.

When Nagisa returned, Reisa whispered to us in a voice only we could hear.

“…Did Amane san do anything to you in the classroom?”

“No, I’m fine.”

“I see. But it’s better to be careful, just in case.”

“I understand.”

My childhood friend is being treated like a dangerous person.

I was attacked in the last exchange, so she’s literally dangerous, which is unfortunate.

Plus, she’s a sneaky guy, so it wouldn’t be surprising if dhe’s planning something behind Nagids’s back.

We’ll have to keep a close eye on her from now on.

Still, it’s ironic that I’m stuck with her even at a time like this.

I sighed, feeling unlucky about the shift assignment that left me alone.
