I left Grandma and Grandpa’s house in the morning after having breakfast, which had been prepared for me.
Kano san seemed to have taken a liking to Grandpa and Grandma, considering that she had mentioned that she would bring them they’re great-grandchildren with her the next time she came over.
But even if I were to marry Kano san, I would have to be financially independent before I could raise a child, so great-grandchildren would be a long time in the future.
“…I had a feeling before I came, but Fushimi Inari is really crowded.”
“It’s ranked as the number one tourist attraction in Kyoto, so of course it’s crowded.”
We each expressed our thoughts as we rode the train to Fushimi Inari. As was the case in Arashiyama yesterday, there are quite a lot of foreigners here. It was so full of foreigners that I felt as if I was in a foreign country.
Kano san and I passed through the Grand Gate and started to walk into the shrine. As the shrine is named [Inari] there are statues of foxes here and there in the shrine grounds.
We first purified our hands at the hand-watering basin, then went to the main hall to pay our respects. Needless to say, Kano san spent a lot of time there as usual. After praying, we finally started to head for the Senbon-Torii, the gateway to the temple, which we had been waiting for.
“When you think of Fushimi Inari, you think of this view of the Torii gate, right?”
“I agree. If you don’t see it, there’s no point in coming all the way here.”
“It’s a pity that there are so many people here that it’s hard to get a good picture of it.”
We took a selfie together in front of the Senbon-Torii tunnel, waiting for a shutter chance. Then we started to walk through the Senbon-Torii tunnel.
“I heard there is an Okusha shrine at the end of the tunnel.”
“The so-called inner sanctuary, right?”
“Yup, you know it well.”
“I’ve been to Fushimi Inari several times.”
We arrived at the Okusha shrine as we walked along the path. While we were looking around the Okusha shrine, Kano san stopped in front of a wooden sign that read [Omokaru-ishi] (a stone for praying).
“I remember that the Omokaru-ishi is a stone that if you lift it while making a wish and it turns out to be lighter than expected, your wish will come true, y’know?”
“I think there are probably very few people who feel that the Omokaru-ishi is light.”
“When I was a child, I couldn’t even lift the stone because it was too heavy. I remember my brother also looked disappointed when he couldn’t lift it. When I was remembering that, Kano san lifted the Omokaru-ishi easily.”
“Yeah, it was lighter than I thought it would be.”
“Eh !?”
Maybe it’s just a memory from my childhood that makes me think it’s heavy, and it’s much lighter than I imagined.
I thought so and tried to lift up the Omokaru-ishi on the stone lantern, but it was so heavy. It was so heavy that I really thought it was attached to the stone lantern.

“Hmm, I personally thought it was light.”

Kano san lifted it up with a cool face, but it must be heavy enough that common sense would definitely not make it feel light. She probably lifted it up pretending as if it were light.
Kano san is an incredible actor. Then we started walking onward. We were told that many people turn back after arriving at the Okusha Shrine, but we were determined to make it to the top.
“Now that I think about it, I think we’re almost halfway through the summer vacation. Are you okay with your assignments?”
“I’m making good progress. Well, considering that I still have time to study for the test that’s coming up after summer vacation, I’m in trouble if I don’t make progress.”
“I see, it looks like I don’t have to worry about Yuito.”
“By the way, how is Suzuno doing?
“Unfortunately, Suzuno chan is not making any progress, just like last year.”

To be honest, I had a feeling this was going to happen ever since I talked about the assignment with Suzuno during the Sumida River Fireworks Festival. In the first place, Suzuno has always been the type of person who doesn’t mind leaving assignments for long holidays until the last day.

I’m definitely worried about Suzuno and my brother, but for now, I’ll just enjoy my time with Kano san.
