“So why did you do that?”
When I sat her down in the chair and questioned her, Nanase showed no sign of remorse and was gracefully drinking the coffee I had served her.
This guy……she doesn’t seem to reflect at all on what she did earlier.
Well, I guess it was me who gave in.
That hug felt so comfortable to me that I found myself thinking that if we could stay that way forever.
“Of course it’s because I like you.”
“…..I still don’t get it. Why would you like someone like me……I’m not the good person you think I am, Nanase.”
“But you saved me. You were so cool that time.”
“……”
I usually try to stay out of trouble, but that one time, I went ahead and got involved.
I don’t really know myself, but……maybe I just felt bad about abandoning someone I knew in trouble.
It was a very uncharacteristic thing to do, now that I think about it.
“So what do you think? Would you go out with me?”
“I refuse. Or rather, hasn’t your personality changed drastically? Where did the cold-hearted princess go?”
“Maybe being with you softens my personality a little.”
“……Must be my imagination.”
Is this guy trying to hit on me? That’s what her choice of words shows.
“I mean, should Nanase be going out with someone so easily?”
“Yes, my parents will choose who I will marry. It’s such a hassle.”
Nanase’s family is a long-established and distinguished family, so as its daughter, she will likely be forced to marry a man from a distinguished family somewhere.
“You have not decided on a fiancée yet?”
“No, I haven’t.”
“I haven’t decided yet either.”
“? I see……I hope you find one soon.”
I don’t really have any interest in this fiancé thing. I’m going to be forced to marry a woman I don’t like anyway, and they don’t care about the rest as long as I leave them an heir.
Others may think I’m cold-hearted, but this is the fate of those born into a distinguished family. That’s why me and my parents don’t get along very well.
“Your family seems to be strict about that sort of thing. My older brother will take over the family business.”
“Yeah, because my sister has no intention of taking over the house at all. I’m the heir.”
“It’s hard on both of us.”
“Yes, it is.”
Talking with Nanase like this, I felt very calm. I guess it was because I was able to share my complaints with someone in a similar situation.
If my fiancée is like Nanase, I might be able to cooperate a little better.
“Well, I’ve checked everything I wanted to check, so I’m heading home now.”
“Okay, I’ll walk you home.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll call for a ride. I had a great time this morning, thanks.”
“I had fun, too. Thanks.”
“See you tomorrow.”
“Yeah.”
When she opened the door and was about to leave, her feet stopped dead in their tracks.
Then she turned around again.
“Hey.”
“What is it?”
“Can I call you Minato?”
“I don’t mind.”
I don’t really like this name, but if she wants to call me that, she can.
“Thanks. See you tomorrow, Minato.”
“Yeah, see you tomorrow.”
She smiled with satisfaction and left.
