After successfully completing the daunting self-introductions, we were told by Misuta sensei about the schedule for the next day and beyond. The long day that began with the entrance ceremony finally came to an end.
“Hey, Itsuki. If you don’t mind, would you like to eat somewhere and go home?”
“Sorry, Wada. I have some other business to attend to after this. Please ask me out again.”
It was a nice offer, but I politely declined. I was glad that Wada happened to be sitting in front of me. He has short, close-cropped hair and a large, muscular build that gives him a stern appearance, but in contrast to that, he has a very caring personality.
He entered Amanohashidate Academy when he was in junior high school and was a member of the basketball team. He is a genius who led his team to the national championship last year, and after Wada finishes his self-introduction, Misuta sensei adds that she expects him to do well in high school as well.
But in this class, there is a female student who has the talent that will eventually carry the expectations of the whole country, not just the club. Many of them are like that when you think about it calmly. I realize that I am a frog in a well.
“Right. You’d rather talk to your childhood friend whom you haven’t seen in a while than me, right?”
“That’s about it. I’m grateful to you for your concern.”
He must have called out to me out of concern for me, who came to Tokyo and didn’t know anything about the school. I’m reluctant to be disrespectful, but I was more concerned about the fact that there were no people around Kanna.
I heard that she had been enrolled in Amanohashidate Academy since she was in elementary school, and that she had been alone a lot since then. Is the reason for this the same one from more than a decade ago? If so, I couldn’t help but worry about what she had been going through until today.
“Kanna, why don’t you come home with me?”
So I called out to her as she was getting ready to leave. At that moment, the classroom was filled with tension. It was strange to be surprised just by talking to her.
“Ah, Jinpei kun. Of course it’s okay ! I was just about to ask you out myself, so you beat me to it.”
With a smile on her face, she stood up. I was about to cross my arms like I used to, but just before that, I was stopped by my hands tied behind my back. Thank God, the air must have been frozen if she had just stuck to me. I let out a sigh of relief in my heart.
“What’s wrong? Are you okay?”
“I’m still getting used to the atmosphere here, unlike Kanna. I’m just a little tired.”
“Fufu As expected of Jinpei kun, it seems like you have been affected by the city atmosphere.”
Even though you’re completely dyed in the colors of the city, you haven’t forgotten that you’re from the countryside just like me. While thinking about this, I stared at my childhood friend.
Completely ignored. Moreover, she was already walking towards the door without me. What a heartless childhood friend. I’m crying.
“……I’m glad you’re here. I’ve got a lot of things to talk about.”
“I have a lot of things I want to talk to you about too, Jinpei kun. But before that, is it okay if I just say something here?”
Kanna stops and looks back. The tone of her voice has dropped, and the smile on her face gives the impression of pressure. I have a bad feeling about this.
“…Please be gentle with me.”
I swallow with bated breath and wait for her to speak. After a long pause, Kanna came up to me, grabbed my necktie and said,
“I’m sure you could have at least sent me a letter or two !? Don’t you think !?”
Kanna adds that she said it twice because it’s important.
Long eyelashes, plump and soft cherry-red lips. The sweet fragrance of her hair reached my nostrils and made my heart skip a beat…but that’s not what I meant.
It’s not that I didn’t write. I have tried to write once or twice. It’s just that each time I tried, my writing stopped. At any rate, since Kanna had disappeared, my days had been dull and boring with no change.
“No, no, no ! Even if you say that, Kanna has never sent me a letter. I think there’s a lot more you can write about than me, like your life here, right?”
“I-I was going to reply to your letter when I received one from Jinpei kun !”
Kanna pretends to be misleading. What a cowardly person to put yourself on the shelf and complain.
“Okay ! This conversation is over ! Let’s move on quickly ! Please follow me without delay !”
“That’s not fair, Kanna–don’t run away all of a sudden ! I don’t know the area yet, so don’t leave me behind !”
I was in a hurry to follow Kanna, but for some reason I found it interesting and happy that my position was completely reversed from the past. A smile naturally spills out.
“Jinpei kun, what are you smiling at?”
“I’m just thinking that you’ve grown so much.”
“…Where are you looking?”
After saying that, Kanna quickly covers her body with both hands in an embarrassed manner. Please stop saying things like I’m giving you naughty looks, as that will only lead to misunderstandings. In fact, crossing your hands in front of your chest actually emphasizes the bulky fruit, so I think you should stop doing it.
“……Jinpei kun’s pervert.”
“I didn’t say anything !?”
It’s too unreasonable. However, Kanna’s cuteness with her cheeks slightly flushed and her lips pouting was cute even without the childhood friend correction. If it wasn’t me, they would have fallen in love with you.
“There is nothing wrong with Jinpein kun being like that, but I think TPO is important, don’t you think? Please keep that kind of thing to just the two of us.”
“You’ve got your head and butt properly covered ! I wouldn’t look at my childhood friend that way in the first place……”
“Muu…I don’t like the utter indifference Jinpei kun.”
For some reason, Kanna looked sulky and turned away and started walking again. I’m in trouble, I can’t read my childhood friend’s emotions at all. Maybe there’s a deeper rift between Kanna and me than I thought.
“…Well, I guess I just have to fill in the gaps from now on.”
“Mou ! What are you doing, Jinpei kun? If you don’t come quickly, I’ll really leave you behind ! I don’t care if you get lost !”
In order not to offend my pouting childhood friend any further, I ran to her side.
