“Ahem……. We will now continue with the band meeting for [Not Noise] !”
After a short break, the meeting resumed.
“First, let’s check the parts of each member’s instrument.”
Ari san wrote down the parts on the whiteboard.
Arii: Bass & Vocals
Kingo: guitar
Ryoko: keyboard
Shino: drums
That’s pretty much what we talked about. Ryoko, however, raised a question.
“Is it okay for Ari chan, who is new to musical instruments, to be the bass vocalist? It is quite difficult to sing while playing the bass guitar.”
Therefore, Ryoko’s concern is understandable.
The bass guitar is often thought of as an easy instrument to play, but it is an important instrument that must be played accurately to create rhythm. It is difficult to beat accurately while singing.
That’s why at first I suggested that she concentrate on her vocals.
But Ari san was determined.
“I know it’s a difficult role. But I really want this part.”
“Hmm. Is it because Yua was a bass vocalist?”
“I-it’s not !? I guess you could say that I simply had no choice but to do it because I wanted to do vocals and because of the configuration of the instruments… It’s not like I have any sense of rivalry with Yua !?”
Ryoko’s out-of-the-box question was answered by Ari san in a flustered, frantic manner.
I understand Ari san’s plan.
If Ryoko is given the keyboard, which she is good at, the bass sound will be absent. She could have used a keyboard to create the bass sound as a countermeasure, but from the way things are going now, this is just a pretext.
But from her true feelings, it seems that she is really conscious of Yua, who was the bass vocalist of Lyconess. When she found out about Yua’s affair, she said she “disliked” her, but I wonder if she was admiring her inwardly.
That’s easy to understand.
“If Ari chan is prepared to do this, then there is nothing I can say. This configuration is meaningless.”
“Well, there are so many ways to do it.”
One way would be to leave the chorus alone and focus on singing without the bass. Fortunately, Nonoi has a keyboardist, so even if the bassist is missing, it can be covered.
“I’m the keyboardist. I wonder how much a keyboard costs……”
Ryoko wrinkled her brow and looked up at the ceiling. Purchasing musical instruments is another major concern for the band.
“I have a keyboard, so I’ll lend it to you. I used to use it for composing music.”
“That would be great.”
My keyboard was given to me by a retired band member. It’s used, but it’s a quality instrument, so it’s good enough to use for live performances.
“What about the drum set? I wonder if I have room for it at my house…….”
Misumi senpai goraned.
“You don’t need to buy a drum set, Senpai. It’s hard to find a place to put it, and it’s also hard to move it every time you practice.”
If you want to get serious about playing drums, you can buy a drum set for practice, but she was under the assumption that it would only last until the next festival.
“You can buy a stick, but when practicing at home, use practice swings or a dummy made from a magazine. If you want to beat the real thing, use a rental studio at a music store, etc, but…..”
“But?”
I smiled with a sly grin.
“I’ve got some special information ! Hokusei University has its own studio.”
[ [ [Oh !] ] ]
‘”We also have drums.”
[ [ [Woow ! !] ] ]
”They say students can use it as they please.”
They are very generous.
There are several studios in the university facilities. They are used for recordings and experiments, and are available to all faculty, staff, and students who apply for them.
Some of the studios have drums, which can also be used by those who apply.
“The drums were donated by senior members of the old light music club when they graduated, and are now the property of the student council.”
“I’m very grateful to my seniors.”
What you need to have is a generous senior.
“As for our practice policy, we should practice our parts on our own, and try to have joint practice at least once a week. It’s impossible to play in an ensemble from the beginning, but Ryoko and I will teach you both while we work up to a level where we can play in an ensemble.”
“No objections !”
“L-leave it to us.”
“T-thank you very much.”
Thus, the parts of the instruments to be played and the practice plan were decided.
*
“Finally, let’s decide on non-musical roles !”
The meeting proceeded under the direction of Ari san.
The instrumental parts have been decided, but the band also needs to play a behind-the-scenes role. We are going to decide on those roles now.
“The roles that need to be filled are accounting, public relations, and management.”
“Yes, I’ll do PR ! I’ll create the official Instagram and X !”
Of course, it was Ari san who was so enthusiastic that she decided to run for the position. I’m sure that Ari san, who seems to like outgoing things, is the right person for the job. She has a lot of friends.
“Next comes management. I’ll take care of this.”
Mainly, I’ll manage the band’s activities in general. My main job is to arrange a studio for practice and negotiate with the band to perform at events. Nobuhiko was in charge of this during his time at Lyconess, so I know what I’m doing.
“Next is accounting. I’ll do—“
“I’ll do that.”
Ryoko interrupted me and raised her hand.
“Kingo has the things to manage, so I’ll do it. Besides…”
“Besides?”
“I’m afraid to trust you with the band’s rights.”
Bang…..
Do I have zero credibility?
“Why would you say that?”
I’m unwilling to say anything about it. Am I that untrusted if it’s related about rights?
“Don’t say you’ve forgotten. What did you promise Nobuhiko?”
“What !?”
That’s right…… Last year, when I was kicked out of Liyconess, Nobuhiko almost gave me the rights to use his songs.
I was told to consult with her before making any future contracts, although Ryoko prevented that from happening.
“So, any objections?”
“….No, I don’t.”
“Fine.”
I had no opinion on the matter.
“What about Nobuhiko?”
When she heard that name, Ari san tilted her head.
“No, it’s nothing ! Don’t worry !”
I was too embarrassed to talk about it.
“Um, what do I have to do…..”
“No chores for you, Shino san.You also have job hunting. Please spend that time practicing.”
“T-thank you.”
There is no dependence on Ari san’s decision. The third year seniors are busy with seminars and job hunting. Just joining the band was a big enough decision for her, so I wasn’t going to force her to do the chores either.
“And then ! It is the role of the lyricist to symbolize the band’s identity…..”
Ari san begins, creating an air of eagerness as if she is about to give the band a chance.
The songs are the heart and soul of the band. It is only natural that Ari san considers them important, as they are the songs that express who they are, or the songs that define who they are.
The songwriting is done by…..
“A-about the lyrics—“
“Of course, I’ll leave it to Kingo !”
Bang ! ! Ari san nominates me with a gesture that sounds like you can almost hear the sound effect.
Hm? Didn’t someone try to speak up for a moment? I thought I heard a faint voice, but was it my imagination?
“Kingo is all about guitars, lyrics, and songs ! He has created many great songs and has made his sound echo all the way to Tokyo, so I’ll leave it to him to write the songs for Nonoi ! You’ll take care of it, won’t you?”
“Eh? Ah, yes, of course !”
“Haa …..the day will soon come when I will sing the songs that Kingo wrote….. I’m so lucky. I’m glad I was born in Hokusei City. Yo, Hokusei gave birth to Mozart !”
“You gave me too much praise !”
There is no Mozart in a rock band.
But I don’t feel bad about it, so I’ll take it.
“Now that we’ve concluded all the topics, is there anyone who would like to speak up?”
I turn the water to each of them, but no one speaks up.
“Does Misumi-senpai have any questions?”
“N-no. …I don’t.”
I asked Senpai, but she shook her head.
I thought I heard her say something earlier, but I must have been imagining it.
“We’re finished today. I look forward to working with you from now on !”
With Ari san’s declaration, the first band meeting came to an end.
The members of the band will be making music together again from now on. I couldn’t contain my excitement at the tension and anticipation of the future.
“Um, Kobayakawa kun. May I have a moment of your time?”
Just as we were about to leave, Senpai suddenly stopped me. Everyone stopped in their tracks, wondering what was going on.
Senpai called out to me, but she looked somewhat uncomfortable, her lips wriggling as her gaze swept over the room.
“Ah, it’s about the seminar, isn’t it? Let’s talk about it here. Ari san and Ryoko, please go ahead.”
Somehow, I felt like I should be considerate, so I dismissed the others.
