Episode 4 – Curiosity & bitterness

“Hey, hey. Why are you so funny, Morita kun? ”

It is break time after Hanamichi’s team beat up Yamaguchi’s team at the ball game practice.

Tsumugi, who has finished changing in the girls’ locker room, comes into contact with Hanamichi in the classroom.

“Eh?”

Hanamichi’s voice leaks out from his mouth at the unexpected contact.

“Hey, hey.”

“Seriously?”

Surrounding classmates (especially boys) reacted with surprise.

It’s not surprising. The reason is that Tsumugi usually does not talk to boys. It’s no wonder they were surprised. This is Mikami Tsumugi, the most beautiful girl in the class. In her school life, she is mostly involved with girls.

“Didn’t you know that? Why are you so funny, Morita kun? ”

Tsumugi giggles, looking somewhat funny.

“Huh? No, no, no. Even if you say that.”

Hanamichi makes a troubled expression.

“Ahaha !? Just a casual reaction could be interesting !”

Tsumugi holds her stomach in wonder. Normally, she is not a girl who laughs so loudly. She always smiles, but she rarely shows it by holding her belly.

“Could it be. Do I have some funny points myself?”

Hanamichi asks fearfully. He was worried that he might be misinterpreted as being overly self-conscious.

“Ahaha !? You’re saying that yourself ! !”

Tsumugi laughs hysterically. She was more forward than before, holding her stomach.

(Could it be that Mikami is a person who laughs a lot? )

Hanamichi tilts his head. He can’t read Tsumugi’s character at this moment.

“Ahaha. Ah~. It’s funny~. I can’t believe I can laugh like this. You’re amazing ! Morita kun ! !”

Tsumugi praised Hanamichi while wiping the tears that were pooling in the corners of her eyes with her fingers.

“T-that’s very kind of you. T-thank you.”

Hanamichi is lost for a reply and humbly accepts the compliment.

“Phew. Too awkward.”

Again, he was caught in Tsumugi’s spot. It seems that everything Hanamichi says and does is funny and amusing.

“Ah~. Maybe I’m getting more interested in Morita kun. I might wanna talk to him more. Hey, you know what? Do you have time after school today? Do you wanna hang out with me if you want? I’d like to play with you.”

Tsumugi smiles with a superior look and invites Hanamichi to play with her.

“Eh? T-today?”

Hanamichi was a bit perplexed by the sudden proposal.

“I think I was too abrupt. Is that….a no?”

Tsumugi tilted her head back. The power of that gesture was amazing. It agitated Hanamichi more than a little.

(I have plans to play with Wakita and the others today…)

Hanamichi looked away from Tsumugi.

“I’m sorry. I have an appointment with my friends first.”

Hanamichi, unable to betray his friendship, declines Tsumugi’s invitation.

“I see. Well then…”

Tsumugi looks down.

(Perhaps I made her feel depressed?)

Hanamichi feels guilty about his decision. Perhaps there could have been a different way. He regrets it in no small measure.

“I wanna join ! !”

Tsumugi puts her hands together with a big smile on her face and tells Hanamichi her request.

“Huh?”

For a moment, Hanamichi could not understand the meaning of Tsumugi’s words. It is because the response was so oblique. It was too unexpected.

“Is it….a no?”

Tsumugi tilted her head again.

“Hey, hey, hey. Ignore that guy. If he refuses to play with you, why don’t you play with me?”

Yamaguchi breaks the atmosphere by asking Tsumugi. Actually, Yamaguchi had confessed his feelings to Tsumugi in the past. It’s a top secret for him.

“…..Sorry. I’ll pass.”

Tsumugi easily rejects Yamaguchi’s invitation with a big smile.

“W-why ! Why do you wanna play with him but not with me?”

Yamaguchi persists in his insistence.

“Because. Compared to Morita kun, Yamaguchi kun is overwhelmingly  uninteresting !”

Tsumugi answers, adding a reason without showing any sign of hesitation.

“Wha…. Overwhelmingly…uninteresting…”

Yamaguchi is shocked by Tsumugi’s words. The power is drained from the entire body like a shell.

“I’ll get back to the subject. Morita kun, is it still a no?”

Tsumugi removed Yamaguchi from her sight as if she had lost interest in him and turned her gaze persistently to Hanamichi again.
