A grim reaper haunts Hoshikawa Rino

This means only one thing.

Rino Hoshikawa will die soon.

I trail Hoshikawa as she walks through town after school, pondering the cause of her death.

Suicide, like Nanase’s, seems unlikely.

It’s no exaggeration to say Hoshikawa is at the peak of her life as a rising idol.

Back in our first year, I was in the same class as Hoshikawa. She was popular, with her good looks and friendly demeanor, and her confident manner was just part of who she was.

That leaves the possibility of an accident, or perhaps getting caught up in some kind of incident.

As I continued tailing Hoshikawa, I kept watch for cars suddenly darting out from somewhere, or buildings and roads that posed accident risks like this morning.

But nothing happened.

Hoshikawa walked at her usual pace, with the Grim Reaper right behind her , shadowing her closely.

What exactly caused Hoshikawa’s death?

Just as I was racking my brain over this…

“…!”

A figure suddenly emerged from behind cover.

It wore a hood and hid its face with a mask.

Hands in pockets, it gradually approached Hoshikawa.

Hoshikawa hadn’t noticed the figure yet.

“Ah…!”

As I hid and followed the two, the hooded figure suddenly moved ahead.

Something flashed in the hand that pulled out of the pocket.

It was probably a blade or something.

The hooded figure approached Hoshikawa from behind and pinned her in a bear hug.

Then, pressing something against Hoshikawa’s neck, he forcibly dragged her into a nearby abandoned building.

No one else was around except me. I was the only one who witnessed what just happened.

“This is bad…!”

What I just saw unfold before my eyes was almost certainly the event that would lead to Hoshikawa’s death.

I decided to call the police immediately.

I told them about a man with a knife who had taken my classmate away, along with the location.

I gambled on the possibility that my report might avert Hoshikawa’s fate, but the Grim Reaper followed the taken Hoshikawa into the building.

The fact that the Grim Reaper hadn’t left meant Hoshikawa’s fate hadn’t been averted yet.

“…!”

After hesitating over what I should do, I steeled myself and followed the two into the abandoned building.

Once inside the abandoned building, I walked carefully, trying not to leave footprints.

It was dark and difficult to navigate, but I didn’t lose them because two sets of footprints were visible on the ground.

The abandoned building showed signs of construction work having been done there, with scrap materials and debris scattered about.

I pulled an iron bar from a nearby pile of scrap materials.

I couldn’t beat a knife with my bare hands, so I decided to use this.

I followed the footprints on the ground, tracking the two.

“Hoshikawa! Marry me!! You’re destined to be with me!!”

“Noooooo!! Let go!! Someone help me!!!”

I heard the man’s shouts and Hoshikawa’s screams.

“If you won’t marry me…! I’ll kill you and then kill myself!!”

“Aaaaaah!? Someone help me!!!”

I saw the Grim Reaper ahead.

“Hoshikawaaaaa!!!”

I let out a scream and charged forward.

“Who the hell are you!?”

“Wooooooooooh!”

The man who had pinned Hoshikawa to the ground flinched at my sudden charge.

He held a knife in his hand, and Hoshikawa was pinned down in a straddling position.

I swung the iron bar down with all my might, aiming for the man’s arm.

“Guh!”

The man groaned and dropped the knife.

“D-Don’t interfere with me…!”

The man glared at me, then tried to pick up the knife that had fallen to the ground.

“Get it!”

I swung the iron bar with all my might, aiming for the jaw of the man who had crouched down to pick up the knife.

A dull thud sounded.

With a definite thud, the man collapsed.

He fell flat and stopped moving.

For a moment, I worried I might have killed him, but then I realized that if the man were to die, there should be another grim reaper here.

I watched the grim reaper who had been attached to Hoshikawa leave with a look of disappointment, and knew the danger had passed.

“Haahhhhhhh.”

I let out a huge sigh and sat down where I was.

“Ku, Kurose-kun…?”

Hoshikawa slowly got up and called my name.

“Haa, haa… Hoshikawa… Are you… okay?”

“Ah”

Hoshikawa, who had stood up once, slumped back down as if all strength had left her .

She didn’t seem to be injured.

It seemed the relief that the threat to her life had passed had drained all her strength.
