“I’m just going to the bathroom.”

“Okay. Go ahead.”

Having managed to calm Nanase down, I pretended to head for the restroom, left the classroom, and went straight to the next one over.

Peeking in, I saw everyone in the neighboring class starting to move, carrying their change of clothes and such.

“I seriously hate the pool…”

“Yeah, right~”

“The water’s cold, and the boys will see us~”

“Those guys really stare, don’t they~”

“I know~”

Saying things like that, the group of girls came out of the classroom.

Hoshikawa was among them.

Apparently, the next class for the neighboring class was swimming.

Everyone started moving toward the pool on the roof of the adjacent building.

“Will something happen during class…?”

The Grim Reaper stuck close to Hoshikawa as she blended into the group of girls, gliding smoothly up the stairs.

From their earlier conversation, Hoshikawa didn’t seem like someone who would commit suicide.

Hoshikawa was basically a cheerful person; it was safe to assume she wouldn’t take her own life like Nanase did.

That meant Hoshikawa would likely die in an incident or accident.

Since this is inside the school, it’s unlikely she’d be nearly killed by a stalker like last time.

So then…

“An accident…”

What kind of accidents happen at the pool?

Hitting her head hard when diving in and breaking her neck.

I think there was also an accident in the past where someone got sucked into the drain.

Either way, if I don’t take some kind of countermeasure, Hoshikawa will die.

Without anyone noticing, I followed the group from the neighboring class, looking completely nonchalant.

Crossing the connecting corridor, I passed the group of boys.

The pool is on the roof of the adjacent building. On the third floor are the boys’ changing room and the girls’ changing room.

I jogged ahead to the boys’ locker room, slipped inside, and hid in the toilet next to it.

“Isn’t it cold today?”

“Seriously, swimming on a day like this?!”

“But we get to see Hoshikawa in her swimsuit again!”

“Wooooo! Getting to see an active idol in a swimsuit

is awesome!!!”

“We’re seriously lucky to be in this class, huh?”

“Totally. Our homeroom teacher sucks, but just having Hoshikawa here makes it totally worth it.”

“Honestly, the other girls besides Hoshikawa are kinda meh though.”

“Hey, you. Cut it out. If she hears us, we’re done for.”

The worst kind of conversation, typical of high school boys, drifted over.

I held my breath in the boys’ toilet stall and stayed hidden.

“Gonna hit the bathroom real quick~”

A few guys came over to this side to use the restroom while changing.

But they all just needed to pee. None of them tried to enter my stall to take a dump.

After the guys finished changing and left, I breathed a sigh of relief.

Kiiing-kooon-kaaan-kooon…

The bell rang for class to start.

My class was math, I think. If I stayed in here, I’d probably be marked absent, but oh well.

I’d just make up some excuse later, like I had diarrhea or wasn’t feeling well.

After hearing no more sounds from the changing room next door, I slowly stepped out of the toilet stall.

I peeked into the changing room. All the boys had finished changing and left.

I stood right in front of the boys’ locker room door and waited for a while.

“Brrr, it’s cold~”

“Seriously, it’s freezing~”

“On days like this, I wish they’d just cancel swimming~”

“I don’t wanna take a hellish shower~”

“Ugh… This swimsuit shows off my body lines way too much, right~?”

“I know~. It’s the school-issued one, so what can you do~?”

After the boys finished changing, the girls came out of the adjacent locker room next and headed for the rooftop pool.

It seemed common across all classes that the girls took longer to change than the boys.

I waited there until all the girls had headed for the rooftop.

Once I confirmed all the girls were gone, I slowly exited the locker room.

If anyone spotted me, it would be over.

They’d report me to the homeroom teacher immediately, and I’d be dragged back to my own class.

Fortunately, there was no one else around.

A scream echoed from the rooftop: “Kyaaaaaaaah!”

That was probably the girls screaming

while enduring the hellish shower.

Then came a roar from the boys: “Wooooooooo!”

Just some jokers who’d survived the hellish shower making a racket.

I slowly climbed the stairs to the rooftop.

Up there, the students who’d just endured the hellish shower were doing warm-up exercises under the teacher’s instructions.

Near the group of girls stood the Grim Reaper.

Hiding behind cover, I peeked out cautiously, surveying the entire pool area.

No signs of an accident or impending incident were visible yet.

It looked like a perfectly ordinary, peaceful swimming lesson.

The boys were doing stretches while stealing glances at the girls. The girls, seemingly aware of the boys’ stares, either glared back or shyly covered themselves while doing their exercises.

“Alright then, today we’ll practice diving, just like last time~”

And so, the swimming lesson finally began.

It seemed today’s lesson would focus on diving practice.

First, the instructor demonstrated the dive himself, then those with swimming experience took turns showing their dives.

“It should look something like this. Extend both arms like this, touch them to your ears, and keep your head steady~. Alright, boys, you go first.”

The diving practice began.

The boys took turns diving in.

The skill level was wildly uneven—some were extremely clumsy, while others, despite being beginners, were surprisingly good.

The show-offs deliberately did butt dives and got yelled at mercilessly.

Everyone laughed at the scolded show-offs, but I was tense the whole time.

After the boys finished, it was the girls’ turn.

Under the boys’ intense stares, the girls jumped in, looking uncomfortable.

Finally, it was Hoshikawa’s turn.

Everyone’s gaze, including mine, focused on Hoshikawa.

“…!”

I swallowed hard.

The water wasn’t that deep.

The chance of getting hurt from the dive should be low.

But I’d often heard of accidents where people broke their necks or worse and died from diving.

Should I run out and stop her, even now…?

But if I missed this chance, and her cause of death turned out to be something else, I’d never be able to help Hoshikawa.

While I hesitated, Hoshikawa climbed onto the diving board.

And, paying no mind to everyone’s attention, she dove into the water with almost perfect form.
