While we were talking, I could smell the dinner Hina was preparing.

“It smells good,”

I said, and Hina smiled happily.

“Isn’t it? Sakine likes stew too, so I think she’ll be happy.”

After finishing preparing dinner, the dishes were lined up on the dining table. There was warm stew, a salad that Hina had quickly made, and fluffy rice. Simple, but the table was filled with Hina’s warmth.

“Alright, let’s get started!”

With Hina’s call, the Christmas party began. On the table were the roast chicken prepared by Hina’s mother, salad, and the Christmas cake we three had made together, all arranged beautifully. The chicken emitted a fragrant aroma, and the cake released a sweet scent.

“Wow! Amazing!”

Sakine gazed at the table with sparkling eyes.

Seeing her like that, we all smiled naturally.

First, we all made a toast. Sakine had a children’s champagne, while Hina and I had grape juice instead of wine.

“Merry Christmas!”

Sakine’s cheerful voice echoed throughout the living room.

When the meal began, Sakine was excited from start to finish, digging into the chicken and eagerly waiting to eat the cake. Hina watched over Sakine kindly and encouraged me to eat.

“The stew is delicious!”

“It’s delicious!”

“Thank you.”

When the meal was over, it was finally time for games.

The bingo tournament that Sakine was most looking forward to began.

“Okay, everyone, do you have your bingo cards?”

Hina acts as the MC and spins the bingo machine.

Sakine looks at her card with a serious expression.

“The first number is… B 7!”

Hearing Hina’s voice, Sakine shouts, “I got it!” and circles the number. I look at my own card and feel a mixture of joy and disappointment. Unlike the class party planned by Mukai, this party had a very cozy atmosphere, and I was able to enjoy myself from the bottom of my heart.

After a while, Sakine shouted, “Bingo!” The numbers on her card were lined up perfectly in a vertical row.

“Wow! Congratulations, Sakine!”

Hina hugged Sakine. Sakine jumped up and down and reached for the bag containing the prize. Inside was a cute stuffed animal.

“Wow! Thank you!”

Sakine hugged the stuffed animal tightly and looked up at us with a big smile on her face. That smile lit up my heart with warmth.

After the bingo game ended, it was time to exchange gifts. Everyone exchanged the gifts they had prepared in advance. Sakine received the cute picture book I gave her and her eyes sparkled.

“Thank you, Hikaru nii chan!”

Sakine ran up to me and hugged me.

My heart was filled with warmth at her small gesture.

Hina spread out the blanket I had chosen and checked its texture.

“It’s cute… Thank you, Hikaru. I’m so happy.”

Hina’s smile made me feel shy. I was really glad that she was happy.

After we finished eating and were cleaning up the kitchen, Sakine started to doze off on the sofa, saying, “I’m sleepy.” Hina gently stroked Sakine’s head.

“It’s time to go to bed, Sakine.”

Hina picked up Sakine and carried her to her bed.

Meanwhile, I took the dishes to the sink.

After a while, Hina returned to the living room.

She looked a little tired, but her eyes were shining gently.

“Thank you, Hikaru. Thank you for helping me clean up.”

“Don’t worry about it. I enjoyed myself too.”

The two of us worked together to wash the remaining dishes. The kitchen was filled with the sound of clattering dishes and gentle conversation.

“Hikaru, thank you so much for today. For the decorations and the dinner. Sakine seemed really happy that you came.”

Hina said as she wiped her wet hands.

“I’m glad to hear that. I had a great time spending Christmas with Sakine chan and Hina like this.”

When I said that, Hina stared intently at my face. I had the illusion that I was being sucked into her eyes.

“…I’m glad. I’m glad you enjoyed yourself, Hikaru.”

Hina gently placed her hand on top of mine. Her fingertips, which had become a little cold from washing the dishes, conveyed warmth to my hand.

“Hey, Hikaru. Sakine said something today.”

“What?”

Hina looked away, a little embarrassed.

“She said you’re like Santa Claus. A little hero who makes everyone smile.”

Hina’s words made my face flush. It was embarrassing and kind of ticklish to be described that way.

“That’s not true. I’m just…”

“Yes, it is.”

Hina interrupted me and looked me in the eyes again. Her eyes were serious.

“Hikaru, you’re a really kind person. You always care about Sakine, and you always support me. Because you’re there, every day is so much fun for me.”

Hina’s words reached my heart directly. The gratitude she expressed toward me, and the feelings beyond that. My chest felt tight and hot.

“Hina…”

I couldn’t say anything else. I just placed my hand over hers. Her kindness filled my heart deeply.

“So… thank you, Hikaru.”

Hina gently rested her head on my shoulder. The weight of her head brought a sense of peace to my heart. In the quiet kitchen at night, we just sat together, feeling each other’s warmth. I wished that this moment would last forever. With that wish in my heart, I gently rested my cheek against Hina’s soft hair. It was the best Christmas ever.
