With a cold Hakodate winter wind blowing through, Hina and I were walking from the red brick warehouse towards our next destination, Hachimanzaka.

The winter afternoon sun was gradually slanting down and the sky was turning a faint orange.

I opened my mouth a little as I watched Hina carefully walk on the snow with a small bag slung over her shoulder.

“The scenery around here looks like something out of a film.”

“Yes, I can see that. Especially this hill, you often see it in pictures, but it’s even more beautiful in person.”

Hina’s voice was joyful.

Her gaze was on the harbour in the distance and the sea that could be seen from there.

The straight slope, with its snow-covered trees on both sides and cobblestone paths, was as beautiful as a painting.

“Come to think of it, Hina likes to take pictures and stuff, doesn’t she?”

When I said that, she nodded shyly.

“Yes. Especially when I see this kind of scenery, I just want to take pictures of it. Maybe I should have brought my camera.”

“Sakine-chan often takes photos with a camera too, doesn’t she?”

“That’s right~. Sakine also likes to take photos. I should have borrowed one.”

“Well, I’m sure you can take beautiful pictures with a smartphone too.”

When I returned it with a laugh, Hina took out her phone and started taking pictures of the scenery spread out at the end of the slope.

Watching her, I could see that she was adjusting the frame with a serious face.

I couldn’t help but admire her eagerness to take as good a picture as possible.

“Hey, why don’t you take a photo with me too, Hikaru?”

I was a little surprised by the sudden suggestion, but seeing Hina looking up at me with a smile, I had no reason to refuse.

“Fine, but I’m not that photogenic, am I?”

“That’s not true. Since we came all the way, why not take a photo as a souvenir? ”

Hina tugs lightly on my arm and leads me to the edge of the slope with her phone in her hand. As she adjusts the angle of view, she says.

“smile! Yes, cheese!”

The shutter sounded, and seeing us on the screen, Hina smiled with satisfaction.

“Look, I got a beautiful shot. Take a look at it too, Hikaru.”

She held out her phone to me, and when I looked at the screen, there we were, against the backdrop of Hachimanzaka in winter, with natural smiles on our faces.

The photo, which captures an ordinary moment in time, feels somehow special.

“It’s nice to have something like this, isn’t it?”

“Yes, I want to cherish these things, don’t I?”

When I saw Hina put her phone away like she cherished it, I naturally nodded my head.

I wish this moment could last forever…that’s what I suddenly think.

After climbing up the hill, we reached a square-like area where we could see the whole city.

Hina goes ahead and looks at the view that fills her field of vision.

“Wow, that’s amazing ……!”

Her voice was filled with heartfelt emotion.

The view woven by the dusk of the port town was beautiful beyond words, with the colours of the sky and the light from the street lamps harmonising together.

“Hina, aren’t you cold?”

I called out to her as I shoved my hands into my pockets.

Hina shrugged and laughed.

“I’m fine. The scenery is so beautiful I forget how cold it is.”

I chuckled at her innocent words. Seeing Hina honestly expressing her excitement like this makes me want to enjoy the scenery even more.

After that, we walked around a bit, took some photos, had a chat with Hina about other things, and started walking down the hill. Our next destination was the Mount Hakodate Ropeway.

When they arrived at the ropeway station, the sun had completely gone down and the night was beginning to cover the city. Seeing the cityscape seen from the ropeway window gradually enveloped in light, Hina raised a small voice.

“Wow, this is amazing. It’s been a long time since I ropeway rode.”

“Me too. This kind of thing makes you feel like a tourist, doesn’t it?”

We sat side by side, feeling the ropeway silently climbing up the mountain and looking at the scene below us.

The dotted lights of the street lamps, the headlights of the cars and the reflections on the sea …… are all beautiful.

“Hakodate is really famous for its night views. It’s like a dream.”

I nodded lightly at Hina’s words.

“Indeed. When you look at it like this, it feels like another world.”

As the ropeway approaches the top of the mountain, the whole town becomes more and more luminous.

Witnessing this spectacle, we spent some time in silence.

It felt more important to share this view than to talk about anything.
