With the end of the festival, September came to an end and October began with a slight chill in the air.
The first few days of October passed in a blink of an eye with the afterglow of the festival and cleaning up, but today, for the first time in a while, I was returning home alone with Hina after school.
“Hey, Hikaru.”
“What’s up?”
“Are you free this Saturday?”
Hina asked me that, and I checked my schedule on my phone’s calendar.
The word “After party” was spelled out there, so I went ahead and told her.
“This Saturday, we’re going to have a party with the members of the last band.”

“What’s up with Saturday?”
“No, I just wanted to hang out with you for the first time in a while. But you have plans?~”

“I’m free next Saturday.”

“I’ll put it on my calendar so I don’t forget.”
I did so and put “ Hina” on the calendar for next Saturday.
Hearing that I had put my schedule in my calendar, Hina opened her phone and put her schedule in her calendar, too.
For a moment, I saw Hina’s calendar, but I knew I shouldn’t look at it, so I turned my face away at that moment.
“The week after next, that’s something to look forward to!”
“Y-yeah. I’m looking forward to it.”
I nodded, feeling a little impatient at the fact that I could see for a moment the full smile of Hina, who had finished making plans and was a little excited.
I was somewhat up in the air as I talked with Hina and drove her home.

“Hello? Is this Ryuki?”

“…karu! Hikaru!”

“I don’t know the exact date of Matsumura-san’s birthday, but I can give you a rough idea of when it is.”
“Really?!”
“Yes. I believe the girls celebrate it every year around the time after Halloween, so it should be around that time.”
“I see~”
“Maybe you haven’t prepared anything? …Is that the case? Or should I say,…maybe.”
“That’s it”
“You …… seriously haven’t prepared anything?!”
Ryuuki’s voice echoes loudly over the phone, and I instinctively take the phone away from my ear.
I’m really no good at the most important part,…….”
I don’t even have the words to reply: …….”
I heard Ryuki sigh again on the phone.
After a few moments of silence, he said in a disgusted voice
“…I can’t help it. I’ll help you. That’s what I want to say, but I don’t have the time or the knowledge to think about gifts for girls together! Do something yourself! See you then.”
“Oh, Ryuuki!!”
By the time I tried to stop him, the phone was already off the hook.
“About three more weeks to go. ……”
Then I went home, alone, thinking about the indispensable schedule I had been informed of today.
