During the summer vacation I was spending time with Sakine chan at the Matsumura house.
She was full of energy from the morning, showing a different face from when she is with Hina, and even though I am a high school student, I was already a little tired just keeping up with her tension.
The reason why we are spending time together is that both Hina and her parents have something they can’t miss, so I was asked
“Sakine-chan, is there anywhere you want to go?”
I asked Sakine-chan honestly, since I was allowed to go anywhere I wanted.
“I want to play with dogs and cats!”
“I see~ so do you want to go to the pet store at the shopping mall?”
“Yes!”
On our way to the mall, Sakine-chan was talking happily from beginning to end, and seemed excited as if she were going on an adventure, jumping up and down. I held her hand because it was dangerous.
At her request, we immediately headed to a pet store in the shopping mall.
As we entered the store, we saw cute puppies and kittens running around energetically through the glass.
Sakine-chan was immediately glued to the sight and gazed happily with her face close to the glass.
“Look, onii chan! so tiny and cute!”
Behind the glass, a small Shiba Inu was jumping and wagging its tail at Sakine-chan.
She waved her hand back at the puppy in excitement.
“I heard you can hold it, do you want to try?”
“I do!”
I told the clerk that I wanted to hold the puppy and which one it was, and she took us to the “touch-and-feel” corner with the Shiba Inu I had seen earlier.
There were other customers there with their own dogs that they wanted to hold.
“Yay! I can’t wait to touch it!”
Sakine-chan was overjoyed and gently held the little puppy in her arms, which snuggled up to her as if at ease.
Sakine-chan smiled at its warmth and continued to pet it gently.
“It’s really cute. …… So fluffy and warm.”
I held her in my arms too, and her fluffy fur and pampered gestures made my cheeks relax.
After playing with the pets for a while, I felt a warmth in my heart when I saw Sakine-chan saying goodbye to the pets as if she was sad to leave them.
“I hope I can come see her again.”
“Yes, let’s definitely come back next time!”
After leaving the pet store with Sakine-chan, we walked around a little and smelled the food court nearby, which tickled our flowery senses.
“I’m hungry.”
“Yeah~. Shall we have lunch?”
When we arrived at the shopping mall’s food court, Sakine-chan’s eyes lit up at the variety of food on the menu.
Ramen, hamburgers, pizza, and many other options were available, but she chose omelette rice.
“I want omelette rice!”
“Omelette rice, huh? That sounds good, I’ll have that too.”
We both ordered omu-rice and sat down.
The omelette consisted of a fluffy egg on a bed of rice with plenty of ketchup poured on top.
Sakine-chan picked up a large fork and happily took a big bite.
“Mmm~! Delicious!”
Her smile and satisfied expression made me happy just by looking at her.
I also took a bite, and it was indeed delicious.
The fluffy eggs and ketchup rice were a perfect match, and I couldn’t help but smile.
“I haven’t had omelette rice in a long time. It’s delicious.”
“Is it good, too, onii chan? I’m glad~”
Sakine-chan was enjoying her omu-rice even more as she advanced her fork with satisfaction.
After finishing our lunch and getting hungry, we were strolling through the shopping mall when Sakine-chan stopped at a certain spot.
“Onii chan, there’s a piano!”
“Really. Do you want to try playing it?”
“Is it okay? I want to try!”
Sakine-chan touched the keys with her small hands, sat down in front of the piano, and pressed the keys in order, “Do-re-mi-fa-so.”
“Good, good!”
“Can you play it, onii chan?”
I sat down in the chair facing the piano, and decided to play a popular song that I have been practicing in secret recently.
The beautiful sound of the piano echoed throughout the shopping mall.
I noticed a few people stopping to listen to the music, but the sound made me feel good, so I continued to play.
As the last note faded away, I suddenly came to my senses as applause spontaneously erupted from the surroundings.
I had no idea that there were so many people who were listening to me, so I quickly took Sakine-chan and left the place.
“Wow onii chan! I didn’t know you could play so well.”
T”hank you, Sakine-chan. But don’t tell your sister about this.”
“Why?”
“Just until the next school presentation.”
“Okay. shiii”
I put my index finger on my mouth and Sakine-chan did the same. I’m sure Sakine-chan will keep her promise.
The last place we went was the arcade.
Sakine-chan’s eyes lit up and she was first glued to one of the stuffed dogs in the crane game.
“I want this!”
“This one?”
“Yes, because it looks like the dog I saw earlier. It’s a souvenir for onee chan”
Leaving aside my worry that one day her house would be filled with stuffed toys, I try to live up to her expectations and challenge her to a crane game.
I can’t say I’m as confidently good at crane games as I am at target practice, and I’ve only played a handful of them, so I’m a little worried.
I put 100 yen in the crane and carefully moved the crane to grab the stuffed animal, but the crane didn’t move very well.
“Hmmm, it’s a little difficult. But let’s try again.”
I tried again, and this time I felt a little better. The crane gripped the stuffed animal firmly and slowly rose.
Sakine-chan watched with bated breath as the crane safely removed the stuffed animal and brought it to the exit
“Yay! Thank you, onii chan!”
She happily hugged the stuffed animal and gave me a big smile.
I felt satisfied with her smile as I chewed on the good time I had with her.
After that, we continued to play racing games, dancing games, shooting games, and other games together, losing track of time.
“It was really fun today, Onii chan!”
“Yeah, it was fun. Let’s go play together again.”
Sakine-chan’s smile is the best reward for me.
The day I spent with her was an indescribably happy time.
“I’m home~”
A while after I got home, Hina came home.
“”Welcome back.””
“Hikaru, thank you for today. Are you giving onii chan trouble, too?”
“Sakine-chan was very good.”
“What did you do all day?”
When Hina asked me that question, Sakine chan looked at me with her eyes glazed over and then said
“Secret. Right, onii chan!”
“Yes, that’s right.”
I said goodbye to Hina, who was a little annoyed by our interaction, and Sakune-chan, who was smiling, and left the Matsumura house.

Today, onii chan and I went to various places together.
The dog was so cute that I was a little sad when I had to go home.
The omelette rice was delicious, and I want to make it for onii chan next time.
Onii chan was also very good at playing the piano.
Onee chan was so happy with the stuffed dog that she even took it with her when she went to bed.
I had a lot of fun today!
I won’t tell anyone about Onii-chan’s piano playing, Sensei!
