“This way.”
I, Kamiyama Fumika, got off the tram and walked down the street with Shimomura Taiyo, who said he had never been to Suizenji Park before.
We passed the approach to the park, paid the entrance fee and entered Suizenji Park. As it was Sunday, there were many tourists. This is an Edo period garden. There is a large pond and a small mountain in the shape of Mt Fuji.
However, I was more attracted by the cat that I saw just after entering the park.
“Wow, there’s a cat.”
I like cats. When I see a cat, I immediately want to pet it. The cats here are used to people and I could pet them right away.
Taiyo-kun saw this and said
“I knew it, Kamiyama-san likes cats.”
“You knew that?”
“Yes. Because you used to pet stray cats when you were in junior high school”
I indeed do that from time to time. But I don’t remember seeing Taiyo-kun there.
“Did you watch?”
“Yeah. I told you, I was always watching from afar.”
“Well, where, for example?”
“Well, at the convenience store by the school.”
I’ve stroked a cat there a couple of times
“You really saw?”
“Why should I lie”
“But it was just a coincidence.”
“No, it wasn’t. I watched you a lot. You used to use a cat ballpoint pen in secondary school.”
“H-how did you know that?”
“Yeah. And you had a cat keyring on your bag.”
“How did you know that?”
“That’s why I was watching you. I was looking at you.”
Taiyo-kun stares at me. The cat had escaped before I knew it because I was distracted by Taiyo-kun.
“It seems it’s true. ……”
“It’s true. Believe me.”
“All right. I believe you on that. Okay, let’s go.”
We strolled through Suizenji Park. It’s a lot bigger than I remember it as a child. I was exhausted by the time we rounded the corner.
“Do you want to rest?”
“Yes. I’m feeling a bit weak.”
We bought soft-serve ice cream and sat down, both eating and looking out over the gardens. The cat we had met at the entrance approached us again. That reminded me of our earlier conversation.
“And by the way, you really did look out for me.”
“I told you.”
“But why?”
I can’t help asking.
“Can I tell you?”
Taiyo-kun stares at me and says.
“Fine. Why?”
“‘Well, because I like you.”
“Yes, yes, I knew you would say that. So what’s the real reason?”
There must be something. For example, he was after a girl who was good friends with me.
“It’s true, though. Why else would a man stare at a woman?”
“You don’t have to try to please me. I already like you, Taiyo kun.”
I said.
“I am not trying to please you. Instead, I’m talking to you because I’m worried that you won’t like me.”
“I don’t hate you, Taiyo kun.”
“Really?”
“Really.”
“Then, even if I do these things?’
Taiyo is close to my face. As if he is kissing me.
“Stop, Stop teasing me.”
I lightly shoved him away.
“No?”
“No. That’s the kind of thing I like to do.”
“That’s why I’m doing it. ……”
Once again, Taiyo-kun moved his face closer to mine. I did not push him away this time.
Our lips touched lightly.
