The eldest daughter of the Irie family—Irie Ajisai—is someone who, for better or worse, doesn’t read the room.

She’s self-paced and sometimes ruins the atmosphere, but other times she breaks the tension with her innate brightness when the situation calls for it.

Many might see this as a flaw, but it’s also likely saved quite a few people.

She might just be barging in with “Huh? What’s going on~?” but when it’s in the middle of an argument, it often ends up being a relief.

I remember when my parents were fighting, she ruined the mood as a kid by blurting out, “I wanna marry Tsukasa-kun!” Though that created tension in a different way.

What I’m trying to say is, I think my sister’s virtue is her self-centered cheerfulness.

Sure, she can be annoying sometimes, but thanks to her, our house—which is often empty without our parents—gets some liveliness…

“Um, nee san… how about we eat upstairs?”

Not a hint of liveliness.

“…What’s wrong? We can just eat here, right? right, Kirishima?”

“Eh, please don’t mind me. I’d like to eat with Ajisai-san too.”

“Ugh… When you put it like that…”

My sister sat back down at the table, her eyes a little teary.

She’d endured her hunger just to finally get the curry she wanted, so why did she look so awkward?

She’s not the shy type, after all.

“(I, I thought she’d be popular, but why this sudden… It’s like I bet on the favorite to win outright, but suddenly the odds on the second started dropping… But, but I still want to root for Yuzuki-chan based on our relationship… But Kurusu-chan seems like a nice girl too, and if he’s called a prince… What kind of response is expected of me as his older sister in this situation…!!!)”

And then she started muttering something under her breath. I really wonder what kind of emotional shift happened while she was cooking.

“Anyway, it’s nothing fancy, but how does it taste?”

Still, entertaining guests takes priority over worrying about family.

From the looks of it, she doesn’t seem to have TMJ or osteoporosis, so I’ll set that aside for now.

“I can only say it’s the same as always. You have no intention of letting your future wife cook, do you?”

“How rude! I’m the kind of guy who gets excited seeing an apron.”

“Suddenly revealing your kinks is a bit much.”

Ideally, the less clothing worn underneath, the happier Irie-kun would be.

“Well, even if you leave the housework to your husband, your wife can just work harder to make up for it, right?”

“Wife?”

“I think I could earn quite a lot if I keep working in showbiz like this.”

“…………”

Why is she suddenly saying things like that?

She’s giving me this teasing smile, so I kind of get it… No, no, my face is getting hot.

“(Guh… my mental health can’t handle this, guh)”

No good, the sister sitting next to me is starting to feel a bit annoying.

“So, speaking of which, about that message reply…”

Trying to hide my flushed face, I hurriedly changed the subject.

“It was this weekend, right? I’m totally fine with it.”

Right after parting ways with Shiori-san.

I got a message from Kirishima saying, ‘I want to go on a date this weekend.’

The word ‘date’… still carries an inexplicable awkwardness for me, but we’d promised before the forest school trip, so it couldn’t be helped.

(Well, couldn’t be helped, or something…)

Kirishima is mature for her age. She teases me occasionally, but she’s someone who makes me feel calm when I’m with her.

Even though we haven’t known each other long, conversation flows easily with her, and she’s very dependable.

There are moments when her looks and fame make me feel a little awkward, but going out with her will definitely be fun.

“Oh, is that okay?”

“Is that okay…? Did you think I’d refuse?”

“Well, it did feel a bit sudden. I did get permission from Yuzuki and Shiori beforehand, though.”

“Unfortunately, on my days off, I basically just stay home and watch cooking shows.”

More than that, I wanted to ask about the fact that a third party’s confirmation took priority over the person involved.

(Well, I don’t really have plans anyway, so it’s fine.)

Sometimes Yuzuki drops by unannounced, or I get dragged along on her shopping trips, or my sister suddenly drags me camping on a whim, but as long as it’s not on the day itself, it’s generally not a problem. Sadly, my social circle isn’t that extensive.

“I see… I see.”

When I answered, Kirishima set down her spoon—

“That’s good.”

“!?”

The words slipped out in a low murmur.

Seeing that relaxed expression she showed then—a look of relief, perhaps even joy—made my heart skip a beat.

Precisely because she usually exudes such a mature aura, seeing that kind of age-appropriate expression pierced my chest.

“(My stomach… my stomach is under excessive stress…!)”

And if that expression had been triggered by something I said, it stung even more.

I’d just managed to cool the heat rising to my face, but now I felt myself blushing again.

Truly, she was one of the Three Great Beauties.

Even the slightest change in her expression could send my emotions reeling.

(A girl like this, feeling this way about him—)

Just as that thought crossed my mind, I suddenly sensed something off to the side.

Glancing over, I saw my sister slumped over the table, clutching her stomach.

“I… need some stomach medicine…”

“Is your sister okay? She looks really pale.”

“It might be appendicitis. We should call an ambulance right now.”

After that, my sister stopped me with all her might.
