At night, I come home from work, eat dinner, and play with my phone while lying in bed. That is the basic flow of my daily activities at home, but since it is Friday today, I have moodily finished my meal at a nearby ramen shop on my way home.

Since tomorrow is a holiday, I left my cutter shirts and ties unattended today, thinking that I don’t even need to iron them.

And even now, as I’m just idly playing with my phone, popping it on my face on the pillow of my bed for no particular reason, until the time comes for my favorite drama to start, I’ve forgotten all about it.

I had forgotten that today was the event day of the online game that I am secretly addicted to and enjoying. It was a close call. I had forgotten that it was Friday, but I had completely stood up for my appointment and was about to be scolded by that person again tomorrow.

Fortunately, the time was still before 20:00 at night. I hastily jumped out of bed, booted up my computer, and logged into my favorite open-world online game.

It seems I made it just in time, and I’m relieved to see that the person I usually play with hasn’t arrived yet.

To be honest, I’m not that good at these kinds of games, and I was the type of person who felt that leveling up was too much of a hassle, so I didn’t get involved. I was invited by a colleague of mine who was a good friend of mine in college, and who is now the same age as I am now.

I got into it so much that I even bought an expensive gaming chair to sit in.

I was especially attracted to the game’s high level of freedom, which allowed me to not only defeat dragons and other enemies, but also to become a merchant, farmer, or other village resident and live a carefree life without fighting, or to marry another player.

Well, the person who invited me to the game got bored with the game very quickly and irresponsibly left soon after, but for some reason I got along well with another person who was originally with me and who was also a junior at the same university as me. We play games together almost every week on weekends when we have time.

In fact, I don’t even know that person’s face or real name, and it would be no exaggeration to say that I have been seeing that person every holiday for almost a year now, even though it is in a game.

Especially recently, it’s not uncommon for us to find ourselves playing games together from morning till night and the day is over. If I’m not mistaken, I’m probably getting to know him better than the guy who invited me to the game.

To be honest, there are days when I spend most of my time listening to his complaints and problems in the real world, rather than trying to beat quests in the game, but I don’t dislike that, and I personally feel comfortable enough playing the game with him that I wouldn’t mind spending the whole time with him.

And I wonder if he feels the same way. He have even asked me if I would like to go out for a drink in real life, and we are actually planning to meet up next week or the week after that.”

Well, it seems that in the online game world, there is a one-in-a-billion chance that the person you are playing with is a national idol when you meet him in real life, but the guy who is always playing games with me is definitely not like that.

I know this because I play with him every week. Like me, he is a modern-day samurai who is unmistakably the opposite of popular, and has remained single both in the game world and in the real world.

That’s probably why he gets along so well with me, a negative, dark-rooted person who doesn’t really fit the name “Genki” without any hesitation.

In fact, it has become my hobby or life’s work, which I never had a hobby for, so I guess he feels the same way. I am definitely swamped by both the game and him.

Anyway, I am looking forward to meeting him in person.

He’s late. That guy. He hasn’t come yet.

I remember he was in a bad mood the day after I didn’t come in for the whole day of Saturday because I didn’t tell him I had something to do, but now he’s going to stand me up?

Well, he probably has work and other things to do, so it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t show up or not. It can’t be helped, and it’s just a game after all. It’s just a game, you can enjoy it if you want to, and if you don’t want to, you don’t have to.

But I’m getting hungry again.

Oh no. I didn’t buy any snacks or sweets today. I’m going to go to the convenience store now, but if he comes while I’m there, I’ll have to make him wait for me…

Or, come to think of it, I completely forgot that I got expensive sweets from those two today.

That’s right. I left them in the kitchen without checking inside the paper bag.

Lucky me. I’ll go get them.

(TL/N : The protagonist’s game friend maybe a ‘she’)
