I face the main character Aiden in one of the training grounds.
Aiden is trying to beat me.
He wants to prove his power by defeating me.
It is a kind of status for a commoner to win against a noble, no matter what it is.
He went to the trouble of enrolling as a special student at the Imperial Academy, where many nobles attend, so he must have extraordinary determination.
However, strangely enough, I feel that this is not the only reason.
Aiden felt that there was a reason other than just wanting to surpass the nobility.
But now it doesn’t matter.
I wanted to fight Aiden on my own.
The other party is the protagonist of the MMORPG [Monochrome Sword].
He has the same appearance as in the original story.
He entered the school as a special student as in the original story.
He is standing in front of the future enemy of the Duke of Salvatore’s family, just like in the original story.
Then, I have no choice but to fight, right?
I aim to be the strongest in this world.
I have to be the strongest.
It is to live.
It is just because I want to.
It is a matter of course.
Everything tempts me to fight.
I can’t be the strongest if I can’t at least surpass Aiden, the hero.
Yeah……thank you, Aiden.
For showing up as a wall for me to cross.
I will beat you mercilessly.
“Are you ready and prepared, Master Luca?”
“Yeah. I hope you’re ready to get your ass kicked.”
“Fufu. I hope you’re not in such a hurry for the outcome.”
“I wonder which one is it.”
We both held our swords at the same time.
I was one-handed, with the tip of my sword just off the ground.
Aiden was in the middle. We were both in the same stance, perfectly aligned in the middle, just like the model.
We looked at each other slightly.
After three, five, ten seconds, Aiden moved.
He kicked the ground and came close to me.
I felt an aura of reaction from his body. He seemed to have enough skill to fight with his whole body covered with it.
He’s a special student, after all.
I also put on the aura while thinking calmly.
The first thing I did was to gauge my opponent’s strength.
I moved my sword to the side, and Aiden reaped as fast as he could.
I also defend it with my wooden sword.
Clank ! A high pitched sound was heard, and a shock was generated.
I was surprised.
–Is this all it takes?
The impact transmitted from the wooden sword is equally connected to Aiden’s physical strength and the amount of aura he emits.
However……it was so dull that it exceeded my expectations.
I can’t even move a step in the same aura cloaked state.
“Huh ! As expected, it’s impossible to defeat it in one blow. Then !”
Aiden put strength into his legs.
He drew his sword, changed his stance, and then struck with a series of blows.
The momentum is there. It is a sharp attack. It is also important to note that it is aimed at a vital point.
But that’s all there is to it.
The most important element was missing from Aiden’s sword.
No.
The most important difference had opened up between me and Aiden.
It was simply—a difference in ability.
Aiden’s aura emission and control was far inferior to mine at the age of fifteen.
He attacks with both hands firmly gripping the wooden sword, while I’m able to surpass him entirely with one hand.
It was unexpected in a different way. I expected it to be a bit more of a struggle.
I still don’t think Aiden is giving it his all, but then again……
The shock to the heart is huge.
I played Aiden’s sword with him while suppressing my bewildered heart.
Aiden, who is inferior in physical strength, is easily played backwards.
He moved back about five meters to adjust his stance.
“Haha. You have a frighteningly stupid power, don’t you? I wonder if your aura is a little more powerful than mine.”
“……I’m disappointed.”
“Yes?”
“Is that your full power? If you’re holding back, get serious now. Otherwise, I won’t be able to enjoy it.”
“Wha…..kuh ! You’ve underestimated me a lot. You can’t be so sure of victory just because you have a little bit of aura advantage ! I have other powers I can use !”
Saying this, Aiden runs.
Immediately after, the sword in his hand took on a silvery white glow.
“That’s……”
It’s a prayer, as you can see. A hero should be able to use it. Because in the game, the hero has the aptitude for all abilities.
The blade containing the purification by Aiden’s prayer is wielded.
The trajectory of the slash was simple enough to be seen, as if he had a lot of faith in prayer.
I blocked it while still cloaked in aura.
This is also more disappointing than I imagined……
“Y-you’re stopping this attack too !?”
“You know,……if you use the prayer, the aura is broken, right?”
“Ah.”
As if he himself had forgotten, there was a clear look of surprise on his face.
Unlike me, this guy can’t activate multiple abilities at the same time. Or maybe he can’t do it without a lot of concentration.
Either way, there is no way that a prayer that excels at healing can beat the power of Aura’s arms.
So it was disappointing.
“It’s getting ridiculous.”
There is nothing to be gained by continuing to play with this guy.
I was hoping that even one thing would add up for me, but…he was clearly outclassed.
The scenario has just begun, so it’s understandable.
“Tsk. Not yet ! I even have magic !”
Aiden jumps back.
He thrust his non-sword hand forward and fired fire magic from it.
I know this because I once fought Lucia Morgan, the genius of the famous Morgan family of magic.
Aiden’s magic was inferior to that of Lucia, who was twelve years old at the time.
It’s no wonder.
He probably spent most of his time training his auras. Or he may have dabbled in a variety of other abilities.
Judging from his aura abilities, the latter is very likely.
Hence, each and every one of them is sluggish.
At the very least, he should have had as much training as I did.
Did he not have enough time?
Did he think it was enough?
Was he satisfied with that?
Naive. Too naive.
It’s natural to try. Everyone does.
If you really want to win, do it so hard that you feel you can beat anyone else.
Am I working hard too?
Does effort come in different forms for each person?
Difference in talent?
That’s ridiculous.
If you really want to win, you can’t say that.
Because you have to work harder than anyone else to win. You can win because you worked harder than anyone else.
You can’t just compromise your mindset to the extent that you can get away with it. You have to be desperate.
I did. I almost died many times in seven years. I even had my arm slashed by Sister Norn.
Even so, I didn’t run away. I couldn’t run away.
I wanted to be strong.
And yet, a being as blessed as you, the protagonist, neglects to work hard !
I strengthened my aura.
I no longer needed to repel the oncoming magic.
I dodged to the side and approached Aiden.
Aiden quickly takes a guard stance with his wooden sword, but I attack without question.
My wooden sword blows away Aiden’s defense and himself.
Bouncing repeatedly on the ground, I slammed the hero into the wall of the training hall.
The wall is supposed to be designed to be reinforced, but it shatters.
The match is over.
Aiden falls to the ground, unable to move a limb.
Silence filled the training hall.
