One night after talking to Kano san on the phone, I was meeting up with her at the nearest station.

“Oh, good morning, Yuito.”

“……..Good morning, you’re in good spirits this morning.”

I was still sleepy and my tension was quite low, but Kano san seemed to be full of energy. Then Kano san opened her mouth with a smile on her face.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been to Kyoto, so I’m looking forward to it.”

“I’m sure you understand, but the purpose of this trip is for me to meet my grandma and grandpa, so please don’t forget that.”

“Yeah, yeah, I know.”

I was worried about whether she really understood, but it was obvious that it would be pointless to pursue the matter anyway, so I kept my mouth shut.

“By the way, Kano san, how are you explaining this to your family?

“Ah, I’m supposed to go to Osaka with my friends for an overnight stay. They sell souvenirs from Osaka at Kyoto Station.”

“So you’ve thought about all of that.”

“I’ve asked my friends to make sure we’re on the same page.”

If you’ve gone to such great lengths to create a cover, I shouldn’t have to worry about being found out. If anyone finds out that Kano san and I are going to Kyoto together, it’s going to be a problem. Especially if my brother found out, his summer cold might get worse.

We then took a local train to Tokyo Station and bought Shinkansen tickets at the ticket window. It would have been quicker to buy the tickets from a ticket machine, but we had to go through the trouble of waiting in line because the student discount was only available at the ticket window.

“But even so, Tokyo Station is crowded.”

“It’s natural that there are a lot of people there since it’s the middle of the summer vacation. There will be a lot of people like us who are going out of the prefecture and people who came to Tokyo.”

“If it’s like this, the free seats on the Shinkansen are sure to be crowded, right?”

“Yeah, that’s why it was a good idea to buy reserved seats.”

“Well, it would have been too much to stand for more than two hours to Kyoto.”

If that were to happen, I would be exhausted just by moving around. I would not feel like doing anything right after arriving at Kyoto station and getting off the Shinkansen.

“Would you like to buy something at the convenience store there?”

“I haven’t had breakfast yet, and I’m starving, so let’s do that.”

We went to the convenience store on the Shinkansen platform and bought onigiri, sandwiches, and drinks. Then we get on the Shinkansen and start moving.

“We had a couple of hours to kill, so why don’t we do something together?”

“I’d like to sleep until we get to Kyoto station.”

“Hmm, I’m not sure I can approve of that.”

Kano san immediately dismissed the idea. It seems like I have no choice but to give up since I’m sure I’ll be disturbed even if I try to sleep.

“By the way, what are you planning to do?”

“How about a psychological test? There’s an app that’s been popular lately.”

“Let’s do that for now.”

“All right, I’ll give you a question to start with. You found something while walking, what is it?”

Kano san showed me the screen of her smartphone, which had four options available: a wallet, a key, a four-leaf clover, and a handkerchief. I thought it was better not to think too much about these things, so I went with my gut and chose one.

“A key?”

“Okay, let’s see the explanation.”

Kano san tapped on the illustration of the key, and an explanation appeared on the screen. I read the explanation out loud.

“The key represents intelligence. If you choose the key, your destiny is a smart, imaginative, and high-spec person with high potential.”

“Wow, that’s definitely me.”

Kano san had a smiling expression on her face. I certainly feel like the current explanation applies to Kano san quite well.

“I’ll give you a question this time, Kano san.”

“Yeah, go ahead.”

“You bought a certain food at a festival stall, what is it?”

This time, it had three choices: chocolate bananas, cotton candy, and candy apples. Unlike me, who chose on a hunch, Kano san seemed to be unsure, but after a few moments she came to a conclusion.

“Cotton candy.”

“The explanation is, erm…you look pure when you choose cotton candy, but you are actually sadistic. The cotton candy is too big to fit in one bite, but people who have the will to conquer something that big tend to choose cotton candy.”

“Hmmm, so I’m an S.”

Kano san had a surprised look on her face, but it was right. Considering the many things she’s done to me up until now, Kano san is definitely sadistic. Or maybe she wasn’t aware of it until now.

“It’s quite interesting, isn’t it?”

“There are still a lot of questions to answer, so let’s keep working on them.”

I was so fascinated that Kano san and I continued to play the psychological test on the app.

“…That’s pretty accurate.”

“Yeah, I didn’t know psychological tests could be this accurate.”

It seems that Kano san agrees with me. The psychological tests were so accurate that it was scary. As expected, there are certain things that make it popular.

“Ah, Yuto. Look out the window. You can see Mt. Fuji.”

“That means we should be in Shizuoka by now.”

I heard Kano san’s voice mumble something like that. It seems that nearly forty minutes had passed while the two of us were doing the psychological test.

However, the next stop is Nagoya Station, and it will take more than an hour to Kyoto Station, so it will be a while before we arrive.
