After listening to the explanation of the university, I started to move to the classrooms designated for mock classes. I had no idea where anything was, but with Kano san, a current student, personally guiding me, there was no need to worry about getting lost.
“I knew about the campus as information, but when I actually walked around the campus, I realized that Waseda University is really big.”
“We’re a comprehensive university with one campus, so it’s only natural that we have a large site.”
While many universities have bases scattered in multiple locations, the only campus of Waseda University is here in Shinjuku, where we are currently located.
Approximately 18,000 people from a total of 12 faculties, liberal arts and sciences, spend their time here, and according to the university’s explanation earlier, one of the characteristics of Waseda University is that it allows for a wide variety of exchanges that transcend faculties and grades. It was being talked about.
“I can only imagine how difficult it would be to move around every time I have a class or something in such a large place.”
“Heh, so Yuito already intends to pass the entrance exam. Do you really want to spend your college life with me that badly?”
“No, no, I was just talking hypothetically about what would happen if I became a student here.”
I’ll leave it at that for now.
Kano san said this with a smile on her face.
Shinshiroke High School is one of the most prestigious schools in Tokyo, but considering that I ranked 5th in my grade there, I was given a D grade, the level of difficulty is extremely high.
I think it is really amazing that Kano san passed the entrance exam for Waseda University, not through AO or recommendation, but through general admission. I heard that there were quite a few unsuccessful applicants among the third-year students who graduated in March of this year, in other words, Kano san’s class.
I continued walking around the campus chatting with Kano san for a while and arrived at my destination. The place was much larger than the high school classrooms, which could only hold about 40 students, and it was spacious enough to accommodate more than a hundred people.
“Hmmm, where should I sit….?”
“If you want to take the class seriously, I would recommend you to sit in the front, because there are rather many unserious people in the back who are noisy or sleeping.”
“Eh, is that so?”
“I heard that Heisei University and Western University are similar.”
“I once heard a rumor that people suddenly become unserious when they enter college, but it turns out to be true…”
If the situation is similar at Heisei University, a difficult private university, and at Western University, a medium-tier private university, it probably means that there are a certain number of people like that at all universities, regardless of the level of difficulty.
“…I mean, except for irregulars like Kano san, the people participating in the mock classes are basically high school students, so I don’t think anyone would be that unserious.”
“I see, come to think of it, today was not a regular class, but a mock class for the open campus.”
I don’t know if Kano san was playing dumb or had really forgotten, but she said something like that. While we were talking, it was time for a mock class. We were given a mock class by the Department of Political Science and Economics for a while, but the content was quite serious.
This time, we were taking a course in microeconomics, and the content was a parade of calculus, logarithms, and other mathematical knowledge that I would not have been able to understand without it.
“If they knew that partial derivatives and total derivatives, which are not taught in high school, would come up in the microeconomics class, those who were not good at mathematics and fled to private liberal arts schools would definitely cry, right?”
“Yeah, some students actually fail their microeconomics courses because of it.”
“I see, Kano san has been able to solve problems very well for a while now. Could it be that you’re actually in the Faculty of Political Science and Economics?”
The truth is, I knew Kano san was in the foreign language department, but seeing the way she solved the practice problems on the blackboard in a matter of seconds, I didn’t think so.
“Ah, actually, I just learned microeconomics this spring semester.”
“I see, I didn’t know there was such a trick to it……”
Apparently, Kano san had taken microeconomics.
After the mock class, we left the classroom and headed for the cafeteria. I had a hard time deciding where to go since there are several cafeterias on campus, but in the end I decided to go to the one Kano san recommended.
“We’re here.”
“Hm, there aren’t many people here.”
I had heard that all cafeterias are crowded during the open campus, so I was prepared to wait in line for a long time, but there were much fewer people than I had expected.
“It’s a little hard to find this place even if you look at the campus map, so there are fewer people here than elsewhere.”
“Hmm, is this a little-known spot?”
“Oh yeah, that’s why I come here often. The food is delicious and it’s cheap, so I probably recommend it the most.”
Even current students find it difficult to find, so it must be even more so for the general public who come here for the open campus. Thanks to this, I was able to purchase a meal ticket without much waiting time.
